What would you do without the internet?

I didn't have internet access until I was 22 and that was only at work to begin with. I had it installed at home a couple of years later. So it hasn't been as big a part of my life as it has been for some of you. I guess without it I'd still be playing on my PS2. However, I do love it now and wouldn't wish to be without it. I now speak to so many awesome people who, without the internet, I doubt I would ever have had the chance to speak to. :D

Oh, and don't worry about the PS2. It is still in regular use ... by my mother (Spyro and Simpsons addict!)

- Probably wouldn't know as much about computers. (well, I would probably still but my only source of info would be gaming magazines).

- I'd be spending a lot more money on games, no doubt. Because of the internet and MMO's I only end up spending $15 a month or so for gaming, unless a new (good) game comes out that I want. Without the internet I'd be playing a lot more single player games, and I'd be out of more money :P

- Probably would not have learned a lot that I know of now through online debates and such.

- Would have never even touched or thought about digital art, hell, I'd hardly know what it was! I mean, my entire career I am aiming for would be entirely different!

- I probably wouldn't be as up to date on what is happening in the world. (because of news articles online and sites like digg.com)

My life would probably be a lot different to be honest.

What did people do in, about 1997 when nearly nobody had an internet connection at home?

I dunno' about 'nearly nobody'. I did, and most people I knew did, although

since I was 7 at the time I didn't have much use for it.

Your family must've been an innovating one then. :P In 2008,the world has about 1.5 billion internet users, approximately 1 in 4 citizens of the world use the internet.

In 1997, the whole world had about 70 million internet users, i.e. about 1.7% of the world had internet access. And a lot of those were companies and corporations and their employees.

I'd be completely lost without the Internet. I mean, I use it for everything.

I do most of my billing online, buy a lot of cheap items on Ebay, buy lots of cheap dvds and music from various other sites, check and book cinema tickets, holidays, check my emails from work, keep in touch with friends, play online games, keep up to date with the news, listen to online radio broadcasts, download lots of programs that I can't see in the UK yet etc.... I really would lose a lot of my interests without the Internet.

I guess I'd probably develop a couple of other hobbies, like learning the guitar or spend more time watching TV and movies. I'd probably play a lot of games offline like I did in the old days too lol.

I had it also, since 95 or 96. Just used it for emailing my sister mostly.

If it was to crash now, i'd cope easily. We got on fine without it, and if anything I guess i'd just have a better social life. would be a pain to post stuff all the time though.

I would have a lot of problems if the Internet disappeared now, if it was never here I would be OK probably. Most of my hobbies rely on the Internet (because of cost) and if the Internet wasn't here I probably wouldn't be nearly as involved.

I would be studying for my midterms that, because of the snow day today (^.^), will start on Friday I believe.

I would probably find something to do, but I'd probably just play lots of games and watch tv. It would be a big change though, as a lot of my work and my family's work goes on the computer.

I just remembered something...

Did anyone else play snail mail games many years ago?

I used to play a fantasy based game where moves were made by post. I can't remember what it was called now, but it was fantastic anyway. I suppose I could get back into something like that if there was no Internet anymore.

Better resultz @school.

Also: I have a fun story about this: Once when the intarwebz didn't work here, my brother tried to fix it. He made it(and became a hero), but died of el-shock.

I'm still getting tearz and lulz from it.

Behind the shadows; Behind the scenery of darkness, a giant [kitty]....

I still play snail mail chess. It takes like a month + to play a single game.
