Some people seem to misunderstand what 'raw data' and 'raw power' mean. When Sony say that the PS3 has 20 or so times the power of the PS2, they're fiddleing with the statistics. When in a 'full game mode', where everything, lighting, shade, physics etc as well as pixels, the PS2 could run, say 20,000 pixels. I have no idea of the actual figure, I'm just using an example. Rendering just the pixels, nothing else, the PS2 could run about 50,000 pixels. Sony is using the 20,000 statistics.

Also, with the PS3, they're using statistics gathered from only pixels being rendered. Add lighting and stuff, suddenly that '20 times the PS2's power' will drop back down to 2 or 3 or 4 times.

And it's not only Sony that fiddle with the stats. Micro$oft do it as well, and Ninty cook the 'amount of sale's books, buy using weird combinations and 'confidence interval tests' that sound clever but actually mean nothing.

People need to start taking what every games company (be it Sony, Micro$oft, Nintendo, or even Jagex) says with a very large pinch of salt.

Instead of reading the first post, read the entire topic. Someone already posted something extremely similiar to that, and i replied to it. Suddenly that 'PS3s statistics are most definitely dead wrong...with a pinch of salt' argument of yours just fell to pieces. I wont make my post again, believe what you want, PS3>Xbox360>>>>>>>>>>>>Nintendo.

First two could be reversed in some situations ill admit, but overall i think thats it.

And for those hardcore Nintendo people out there, why dont you post some reasons as to why its good? It looks, well, like a square piece of coal.

Your reply had no relevance to my post. I was pointing out that you can't compare Sony & Microsoft's statements of power to Nintendo's. Before the Xbox/PS2/Gamecube were released, Sony claimed the PS2 could render 75 million polygons per second, and Nintendo said 6-12 million polygons per second for the cube. Just looking at those numbers would prove that the PS2 is vastly superior to the GameCube, right? No, Gamecube is the more powerful one. The PS2 would never, ever be able to render than many in a real game enviroment, with effects turned on. Sony uses raw, theoretical data while Nintendo only gives numbers that would actually be plausible in a game.

nintendo revolution?

heh, i have n64, classic old skool games... along with xbox ps1 ps2 gamecube.... i hate when they come out with sequals of systems then they force you to buy it by only making the good games for the new systems :x

i saw a preview for a ps3 game today and I was in awe, the graphics were unbelievable!

- Only character in Runescape History maxed out in RSC and RS2

all the playstation games suck, all the xbox game are on pc, so ill go with nintendo. i think nintendo looks the best out of all those anyways, its nice and clean and small.

Kinda seems odd Nintendos' going with the whole "Revolution" trend, when it seems like their coolest feature so far is that they can play all the OLD games. Some revolution isn't it? Though that's not that fair to say, as that seems to be the only thing known about it yet. But so far, that seems to be Nintendo's only hook.

I'm thinking they learned from their mistakes on the 'cube. I don't know why... but i do have a feeling the NR is going to be something special. Maybe something good enough to pull me back to nintendo...

But then again, the Xbox360 and Ps3 arn't going my way for sure. The 360 is going to be like 500$... and not sure about the Ps3. And unless they get a hell of a lot of good, origonal games that arn't just Pc remakes *cough*xbox*cough* , i'm not going to even bother buying one. Would be better to upgrade my pc with 500 bucks :)

Doom III

Ghost recon

Duex Ex (well, technicly it was for both, but was on pc)

KOTAR 1+2 were also on pc

realy the list goes on and on. There are alot of pc ports on the xbox, and if not ports a game i could play on the pc, or a game not worth even getting. Realy, there was no reason to get an xbox... no good games that i can't already get on the PC.

and agreed with rick. I have like 25 or so old NES games sitting around, that can somewhat work in my NES , but its hard lol, thing is so damn dirty :P

Hmm, well i didn't know about Doom 3. never heard of any of the others with the exception of Ghost Recon. Never seen Ghost Recon for PC, but I might just be living in a cave. Though Xbox wasn't the only one who made GR into a console game however...

Let's make babies!

Its funny how everyone is already judging the revolution before they know anything about it. Can anyone guess why its called the REVOLUTION? It's not just for fun guys. Nintendo is going to start changing the way they do things with the revolution. I'm not going to say much about it except that it's awsome that you CAN play every nintendo game made on it (download any nes, snes, or 64 game) However, it seems some people like to laugh and judge before they even knew that....

Humans judge on the facts that are present.

You dont give us facts, we dont give you recognition. Period.

If Nintendo continues to go the way of giving us data that will be in there games, and PS3 and XBOX just raw power, its obviously going to make Nintendo sound bad, which has already happened. Releasing a few more specs wouldnt hurt anything...we aren't going to daydream about what the Revolution *could* have, when we can ponder what the PS3 and XBOX360 *can* do.

Oh, and the Killzone2 clip, that wasnt prerendered, it was realtime...'So how does Sony respond to the allegations? Far from being evasive, it met them head-on. "Yes, it is real time," a rep told GameSpot." :P

Im gettin kinda antsy to see what Nintendo will pull out of their sleeves. And pockets. And shoes, and collars and socks... to make the Revolution as good as some people think it will be.....hard to pull off...

Game Engine > Hardware

If the game engine can't render what the hardware is HYPERTHETICALLY capable of supporting then what's the point in having such hardware?

If you want to ponder on what the PS3 and XBOX360 can do...

1. Think of the PS2 and the Xbox and consider the huge difference between what they should've been able to do compared to what they did do

2. Apply the same differences to the PS3 and XBOX360.

3. Cry

And Nintendo gave facts. Real-time facts.

Sony and microsoft gave HYPERTHETICAL DATA, which are not facts.

People are just too stupid and narrow minded to notice the difference.

Rather pathetic really.

whichever system releases every marvel vs * game, thats the one im getting. hopefully revolution, it will more then likely be less expensive.

I was very dissapointed with Nintendo's E3 showing, but I'm confident they will hold a SpaceWorld this year. That way, all the focus will be on them. Even though I am dissapointed so far, there is one huge redeeming factor. Super Smash Bros. Online at launch of the Revolution. Just that is a major contributor to the chances of me buying the rev.

I don't really think it was a dissapointment, in fact it was a pretty good showing from Nintendo. They announced the Revolution, which I think looks really good, and plenty of good new games, such as Advance Wars, Zelda, Mario Kart, etc. I think these upcoming months will be really good games-wise.

9 pictures on the gamespot website, shaped opposite of the xbox 360 (convex, not concave). comes in three colors (white, silverish\gray, black), all the stats are listed above. coming out spring 2006 W00T!!! i also heard that it is 10x as powerful as XBOX360, and about 20 game developers dropped their contracts with xbox once they found out how powerful it is going to be. (friend sent me that info out of one of his gaming magazines).

How powerful will the PS3 be?

On paper, the PS3 is 2x more powerful than the Xbox 360 and 15x more powerful than the Nintendo Revolution. It has a processing capacity of 2.18 TFLOPS, which is put into context when you realise the FASTEST computers in existence can only do 36 Terraflops. It is said to be 35x more powerful than the PlayStation 2 is.

I think its Nintendos fault for publishing statistics that other people think are in sync with the PS3 and XBOX360 :P

So how much more powerful is the PS3\XBOX360 than the Revolution, darkrick? If noone else can give us a valid answer, i guess it should be you.

There's no offical specs which have been released.

Hence whay any "valid" answer would be pure speculation.

Much like the leaked "specs" which consist of the following...

the console will boast four 2.5Ghz IBM G5 [supposedly not the same G5 in Macs, but the PPE derivative] Custom cores, with 128KB of level 1 cache and a 512KB shared level 2 cache, while the graphics will be powered by a dual core ATI RN520 chipset, with 16MB of on-board eDRAM for the frame buffer.

Those specs are fairly close to the XBOX360, IIRC.

I'd be taking them with more than a pinch of salt though.

But if I had to put a finger on how powerfull the Revolution is...

~80% that of the PS3 or XBOX360. Unless Nintendo are holding back on something big....

There's a tonne of rumors out there about the Revolution and with no official statement from Nintendo to confirm or deny them the general public will just have to sit tight and wait. I'd be suprised if the final specs weren't released by November though :-?

You might not even have to have official specs to get a rought idea of power. When Sony or Microsoft start to release real-time statistics you could probably get a rough idea of where the Revolution will stand overall.

Nuff Said :D

i think if nintendo gets mroe devolpers, and aims at a higher age group it will do fine
