That's the proper way from Jagex. It was on the Recent Update forum waaaay back.

I was reading a few god letters and 1 person asked how the names are pronounced, its pronounced using guh with a short u.

Lol, Goo. Look up 'pronounciation' in the Knowledge Base. There's an article about how to pronounce 'Guthix'. I'm guessing it's the same for Guthan. (GUH)
