What skill could YOU live without?

Recommended Posts

After getting my 4th pharoah's sceptre from pyramid plunder in just 2 days, I decided to go do a money burning skill and was debating between firemaking, prayer or construction. And then I felt stupid for even considering firemaking...I mean what point does it even have? Did you know that burning a magic log has no benefit over burning a normal log?(other than getting more exp). That's right, maybe you hoped that your magic log's fire would last longer? Too bad, the time a fire lasts is random. It doesnt matter what your fm lvl is or what log you're using. I have 72 firemaking on my character and I really see no point in it. So far I've used firemaking to....oh nothing, the only reason i even ever leveled it was first to get the reqs for some quests. Oh and then I used it for shade burning and balloon traveling.. but that's all..the basis of the skill (firemaking) is totally useless. Many have brought up points about hunter, etc but at least they still have reasons to train >.>

However, firemaking isnt the only skill people could live without... so my question is, what skill could you live without?

Please explain at least a little as to why that skill does not affect the majority of your playing and why it would not be a great loss. Also suggest alternatives to anything that is lost, for example if firemaking was gone they could add more ranges.

...and here are the results!

THE TOP 5

Firemaking:84<-- i knew it would be first :P

Hunter:28

Fletching:17

Farming:17

Summoning:15

Thieving:13

Construction:12

Mining:11

Smithing:10

Agility:10

Slayer:9

Strength:7

Prayer:6

Herblore:5

Crafting:5

Runecrafting:5

Range:5

Woodcutting:4

Fishing:3

Cooking:3

Disclaimer:I understand that no skills would ever be taken out as many people with those shiny orange capes might quit Runescape as their valuable time was wasted :P. This is a purely theoretical thread.

Guess I could live without Fletching. I don't use Ranged anyway and in theory you actually lose money if you Fletch your own logs into bows and alch them. I made about 12M profit off of my 99 Fletching because I got it when you still made about 150 gp per bow made. Now you lose money, so it's useless.

I mean, in honesty, I love all skills. They all add to my total level and total experience and I love skilling, so...yeah.

Besides, just because Firemaking has no use now (Which, by the way, it takes level 85 Firemaking to burn magic logs at the pyres at Barbarian Outpost, which increases the chance of aquiring a Dragon Full Helm, and it has been discovered Dragon Full Helm appear to be more common as drops from chewed bones than from the Mithril Dragons themselves. If that isn't a reason to get 85 Firemaking, I don't know what is.) does not mean it won't have a use later.

Yeah, I know, I rock on with the side notes in parenthesis. Be jealous. lol.

People forget about the light sources.

No firemaking = no lanturn = painful, horrible death in places like Scarab dungeon or Lumbridge caves.

Skill I could live without? Hm...tough one. Skills are all inter-locked together...

Might have to say Fishing, since it's (although fast-ish), some pure Cooking items are better than most fish (Manta Ray = painfully hard to get, while Tuna potatoes are easy-ish to make, and, well, they're potatoes...)

I also predict that someone in the next Ten (10) posts will say Farming.

Need a new signature....perhaps...

Firemaking -- Jagex doesn't like to update useless skills.

Slayer -- The skill is only usefull for getting total level and monster drops. In which, the monster drops could have been from normal monsters if Jagex hadn't of wasted their time on the skill.

Farming -- Just a useless skill all around. Herbs should of stayed hard to get so that when you got a herb from a monster you actually picked it up, rather than right clicking and checking to see if it is a ranarr.

Hunter -- It's just not a fun skill

Construction -- A skill to show off how rich you were when you had the money to level it up...though you wont have any money afterwards...

I call it, I break it.

In my honest opinion, Farming makes Herblore a bit easier. The only *other* way to get Toadflax and Snapdragon is the ever-so-painful-and-so-very-boring Agility Arena. Also, grown sweetcorn is used in Tuna Potatoes, which heals 22.

Which contradicts my choice of Fishing, since cooked tuna is used for tuna potatoes... I change that to Fletching (...I can change it, right?)

Crafting's already used in Light Sourcing (glass componets of lanturns.), and who's REALLY going to waste runes to make a magic ball of light that *might* fade in say...5 - 10 minutes?

Also, Summoning helps with light sourcing (bat familars) but who really wants to waste a familar space for a useless bat. That space is better used for Bunyip (auto-heal), Beasts of Burden (more supplies, anyone?) or a Titan (HP + Def boost = YAY!).

Firemaking isn't all that useless (and I'm not saying it isn't completely useful.), taking it out, however, would render some things very, very difficult to do.

Need a new signature....perhaps...

Firemaking and smithing

Fm: anyone can understand why.

Smithing: why i would need to make my own armor if i could simply buy it or get as drop or reward(from treasure trials)

Or do barrows for even more good armor...(also goes to weapons, bolt and arrows)

Let's not forget about Shades of Mort'ton either! It's one of the main ways I make my money. VERY profitable at 85 firemaking, and is crazy prayer XP.

As for a skill I could live without, I'd say hunter. I rarely use it, and only trained it ONCE for a quest. I just find it boring and slow and for the most part useless. But the same could be said for almost any other skill.

300-400k an hour isn't "very" good money. There's much better ways of money. Not to mention the limited number of chin spots.

100 dragons huh? lol...try about 2,000. That's how many I have killed. Not a single D Full Helm drop, but over 100 Chewed Bones. No helm from those either, but it's still said to be more common than the DROP itself.

That's completely random. Dragon arrowheads aren't exactly common, and Dragon Darts aren't worth a lot anyways.

Dragon Implings, that's leaving it to the Higher Ups and your hidden "Luck skill". While chinchompas are viturely guranteed money...
