Old people are typically not good with computers. They aren't good with dvds, digital cameras, or anything that gets a bit more complicated either. I heard that 80% of parents wouldn't be capable of making the vcr/dvd work without the help of their kids. The parent probably thought jagex provided the service to buy money, like cash shops on some other games, and didn't check.

That's incredibly pathetic, although I can't blame the parent as the kid most likely lied and said it was a Jagex owned website as most parents would rather jump off a bridge than give their credit information to a company in China they've never heard of before.

I'm not sure, she knew enough about computers to post a complaint about it online.

She got pissed after she lost her 200$ and started looking for a place to complain. Even idiots know how to use google :P

I don't think it was a case of the parent not knowing how to work the computer, it's just that the kid lied and said that RWTing was ok.

A least I hope the parent has read the comment below it.

Sounds like someone got owned. I bet that kid just went to play bounty hunter, lost the $200 items and was too scared to tell his mother.

You people take too much at face value. :shame:

I suspect it was posted by the disgrunteled RWTer himself. He's pissed because Jagex caught him and he is posting as a "parent" to get back and vent a little.

I don't think so because the complaint was toward the RWT company that he parent thought was part of Jagex. They just got scammed and played for chumps, which apparently they were.

Looks like a real complaint.

Remember that many parents don't know that RWT is against the game rules (the kids won't say that). Jagex once posted a reminder in Christmas to parents to not risk such stuff.

There's four complaints on the whole site, one from a mother who was convinced by her son that the RWTers she was buying him items from were Jagex (and then got scammed and is taking it out on Jagex), two people complaining about having their accounts taken away, and one ranting on the trade restrictions and wilderness removal.

Now just change the background color and page layout, and you have the RSoF \'

Reading some of the other "complaints" on that site has brought me to the conclusion that everyone there is completely and utterly stupid.

$200 assist?

wow someone is greedy/[developmentally delayed]ed

wasnt that like 50mil worth before the rwt updates - one big assist

Theres a fine line between not listening and not caring,

I like to think I walk this line every day.

Pinning blame on Jagex is like trying to put pants on an old man.

You both know he needs them, but he'll just keep dancing around, avoiding them at all costs.

My dad is very strict about giving out his credit details but the kid might have lied as some have said. :?

200$ is ALOT for someone only wanting an "assist".

Maybe he wanted to buy a godsword, or 10 million feathers to get to 99 fishing and fletching.

Back in December 2006, Jagex picked up on this problem too, and slapped a big newpost on the front of the RuneScape site:

For the safety of players accounts, it is very important that well-meaning parents who may think that this would be a nice Christmas present, are aware that any accounts involved run a very high risk of being banned. As such, please do not accept or give away any gift of this kind.

To help spread that Christmas joy, try to find a more suitable present; something that says Merry Christmas in a way that no amount of gold pieces or rune armour could ever compare!

They didn't bother posting one for Christmas 2007, given what they'd done earlier in December.

You can see why a parent might make that mistake if their kid asks really nicely and assures them that it's safe and that people do it all the time. The internet's an utter minefield of rules that people don't know until they break them and suffer the consequences.

I saw one account run into trouble on the RSOF because the player's mother had "borrowed" the account to post in Compliments. The RSOF being what it is, she promptly got overwhelmed with people flaming her for account-sharing, after which she got flamed for attempting to discuss the rules of the forums. Sad...

Maybe that mother and her son should read through the game rules & the parents guide before ranting about how she lost $200 or whatever.

what a bloody ignorant and rude statement :x

the average age of a parent to a young child is 25-35 and thats not old,ask bill gates(55) if hes any good with computers, who do you think creates new software and upgraded dvd/digital cameras/computers, 12 year olds??

some people i work with are in their 60s and they could run rings around younger people when it comes to tech/pc stuff.

where you got 80% from, lord knows! :^o
