In addition to the recently announced community avatar feature for Xbox Live, Major Nelson brings us more details in what to expect this fall. Through a system update, here are the latest feature Xbox Live has to offer:

* Play from hard drive. Copy your games from the game disc and play directly from the hard drive. Not only will the drive not spin, but load times are quicker, as well. Of course, you will still need the disc in the tray to prove you own the game.

* Access Xbox LIVE Marketplace on the Web. Browse and purchase Marketplace content whenever you want from Xbox.com and it downloads automatically to your console. Purchase that new map, television episode, the latest Xbox LIVE Arcade game or set up a movie to watch when you get home from work.

* Dashboard built into the new Xbox Guide. For everyone who loves the blades interface, its not going away; they are now built directly in to the new Xbox guide. Every feature and option is available right from the guide. You can even access your full games library at all times. No matter where you are (in dash or in game), immediately call up your games played list and directly launch a game.

Hit the jump for more:

* LIVE Party system. Create a party of up to eight friends, and stay with them from one game to another, or watch a Netflix movie together, or share a slideshow of your personal photos. It works with all Xbox 360 titles, not just upcoming games. LIVE Party allows up to eight people to chat in the dashboard, so you can meet up before playing.

* Xbox LIVE Primetime. This whole new category of games is going to give you more reasons to get online with your friends. Games will support everything youd expect, like Achievements and leader boards, but many of these games will include real prizes. You can invite your friends, and even set a reminder for an upcoming show. Each game is broadcast simultaneously, so everyone is answering the same questions. Many events will have a live host, calling the shots as they happen.

* Avatars. Your online identity started as a Gamertag - it then grew into a personalized Gamercard. Now, it has evolved even further into avatars. You can express your style, check out new outfits and share this with the community. Avatars will also be integrated into Xbox LIVE Arcade games, LIVE Party, as well as retail games.

* New display support. Because you asked for it, we are adding 16X10 over VGA or HDMI, and support for 1440x900 or 1680x1050.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Microsoft is just trying to follow in the Wii's footsteps of attracting a more casual audience? I really don't like the new interface's looks. I like the changes of the Disc Copying and the Party system, but the new interface looks like crap.

I've heard a lot of talk about Nintendo maybe announcing the next Zelda game. It would be great to see that happen and that they use the new motion control that was also announced earlier.

A partial/full set list for GH4 would be nice too. =P~

(It's my birthday tomorrow so hopefully I get a little present from e3)

I feel the same way completely. I wanted more news aimed at core gaming and the 360s future. Not news about how Microsoft is going be for everyone like the Wii.

DaDieselDude050- I would love to see a set list for Guitar Hero WT, we'll just have to wait till tomorrow when the floor opens up.

Microsoft, what the heck were they even trying to do at the conference? It was like they were talking to 60 year olds, especially with how the main host guy was talking, it was like he was trying to sell the system way too much, reminded me of this:

Just put the guy in that video, and bingo!

Gears Of War looked decent, pretty average game.

Dead Space I was impressed with, it's probably going to be a good series...

Mirrors Edge looked interesting don't know if I'll even get it though, the concept is awesome though.

EA's conference was a lot better than M$'s for sure, except for that old NBA or Basketball player, he kept rambling on, and on, and on.

Nothing exciting really happened from those two. Hopefully today Nintendo can bring something to the table, and actually have something that is exciting, or new. Unlike the previous two conferences where it was basically the same technology, or same line up of games, with the exception of two new titles that 'might' be worth playing.

Nintendo or Sony needs to save E3. >.>

If it wasnt for final fantasy the Microsoft press conferance would rank amongst the worst gaming press conferances at E3 ive ever seen...

FFXIII will do nothing for 360 .. Most people that want one have one ...

And the point is the ps3 still has the other FFXIII and will prob get better dlc because its being made with ps3 in mind and ported to xbox 360.

Rumors are spreading around on ScoreHero and the GH community forums that the GHWT setlist might be released at the Wii conference today. Probably gonna be the only time I ever watch E3 on G4.

I really do not like the new direction Microsoft is going with the Xbox360. Like others said, it seems like they are trying to make it more casual like the Wii.

Also, the new interface looks horrible.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

I'm sure most gamers are upset with their new design for the dashboard. I hope they let you choose old/new interface, but I doubt Microsoft is going to want to support both. If they do, I'm choosing the old, slow dashboard because it's not so.. ugly?

Can't wait for RE5.

Sony really needs to come out strong with some exclusives and some great games :]

Nintendo:Theres a unrevealed game for the hardcore that their figurehead Reggies been talking about and i think that it will be the next console animal crossing and it should be MMO.That would be the Megaton of the event if it is an MMO because Nintendo suddenly has there multi million platinum selling title for this holiday season.More casual games possibly wii music.

I would die for a MMO Animal Crossing, so long as they keep the beautiful simplicity of Wild World.

Nintendo may have released Mario Kart and SSBB, but people forget just how large an operation Nintendo actually is. They could easily be developing a new Pikmin or Advanced Wars while still working on the usual Mario titles.

I was just thinking about that too. The last Pikmin we got was on the Gamecube, so I bet there is a high likelihood that they are developing another. They just gave us Advance Wars:Days of Ruin so they probably won't announce a new one for a while.

All presentations thus far have been really depressing to watch. Nintendo and Microsoft are way too busy exploring the 'social gamer' area, and I really feel like they are ignoring the gaming veterans. Even the games they highlighted that would peak the interests of veteran type gamers were really dry.

GTA for DS, I think people are going to buy it, and people somewhat unimpressed with it compared to GTA4. Even if it is portable.

Perhaps I'm just angry that so far there's been nothing to indicate towards a hardcore game for the Wii at all. Even a Zelda title would have been appreciated. Ugh rants.

So far EA, M$, and Nintendo have been bad presentations if you ask me, and they haven't brought anything new to the table that puts them far ahead.

If Sony in an hour and so bring something new to the PS3, or even gives highlights of at least 4 major games for the PS3, they've taken E3 away, easily. I just hope they aren't going to focus as much on the 'social gaming' atmosphere as Nintendo and M$ did.

/rant @ no Zelda...>.>

The Nintendo presentation was quite funny at times, even if it was rehearsed. Animal Crossing looks pretty interesting, and the Wii Motion just looks like an over-hyped accessory that brings the Wii Remote up to what Nintendo wanted it to be like on release.

E3 is still technically taking up the rest of the week. I would expect the major announcements not to be in the generic microsoft/nintendo/sony presentations.

Wii Music is the thing that caught my eye. I play the trumpet so I'm eager to see this game mimic how you really play an instrument. Now with that voice connector thing for Animal Crossing maybe we are going to see online voice chatting for games coming soon?

Nadril is right, don't expect huge game announcements to come up in the first few days.

You can watch the conferences live there.

Or if you don't want to watch craptastic quality:

http://livewire.ign.com/2008/e3/index.html

I's -1 to -4 minutes behind but good quality - Cameras usually shift around to so it doesn't get boring to sit through it as much.

--

True I wouldn't expect them to present big game titles on the first few days, they are probably waiting till each other have gone and announced their big games, so they can get the last shout in. But who knows.

Thanks Skate and Caxis. I'm using livewire just cause I couldnt figure out the one you gave me Caxis :wall:

I'm surrently watching the Nintendo conference.

Looking at the schedule I am looking forward to finding out about DICE's Mirrors Edge. I am a fan of the battlefield games so I like what DICE does with it's FPS so I am interested to see what they are making now.

Not to mention Reg did say Nintendo wasn't going to reveal all its card. Apart from Wii Music, Animal Crossing and Wii Sports 2, I didn't notice any Nintendo developments on the Wii. The DS had even less revealed (I can only remember Pokémon Hunter 2 from Nintendo?) yet it's Nintendo's biggest console by a country mile. I'm sure they'll give more information on some more titles later on.

Although to be honest, this is what I hope more than what I actually think. :?
