Hey, I'm new to this Forum and it confuses me so bear with me for a little :P

 

 

 

Ok, so I've been single for a couple of months now, recently came out a relationship and everything was fine, we stayed friends but we obviousy talk less and stuff, but we still get along.

 

 

 

But now something bad's happened - I now really fancy my best friend (who is a girl).

 

 

 

"Why's this bad?" You may ask, well 'cos I can't ask my best friend out, can I? If it turns out she doesn't like me (I've been told she does but you can't be sure) then I'll look really stupid and it'll become awkward between us. And if she does like me and we go out, then break up, our friendship would be in tattars... I need help I suppose. :(

As a lot of people here would say, go for it, you'll never know unless you ask right? It's better then spending all of your time wondering on what might have happened. And as Sworddude would say It's only awkward if you make it awkward, try hard and fix things if things end up going bad.

Well, I didn't say the entire truth... I liked her once before and told her so, only it was kinda bad between us. We still hung out but spoke little, and when we did we avoided eye contact. We got better over time but I wouldn't be able to stand it if it was like that again...

One more time I will say it, you never know until you ask. As Sworddude said, keeping it to yourself will make things even more awkward. It's best if you just tell her how you feel, perhaps this time she will return your feelings. This might be a risk you have to take, if you don't take risks then you might not ever be with the one you care about... I should know.

Anyways, you're on a road straight to there. Here's what you can do to make it work out...go up to her, and ask her on a date. Not somewhere special, just movies/dinner (not just the movies). Eventually either you or her will bring the topic up of it being a date either then and there or at the date. Say it's a date. Once there, ask her out. Then, she might say 'how long have you liked me?', or you may have to bring it up yourself. DO NOT SAY FOREVER, or however long you actually have. All those memories in her mind of being friends will turn out to be fake and creepy, even if it's just been a month or so. Just say 'I've liked you for a few days. I've been thinking. We really have a lot of fun together, and I think we would be great together. I'm willing to give it a chance if you are.' BAM. A mature, non-creepy, golden way to swerve your car off the road and into the dating lane.

I liked the idea of the road, it's helped me to understand it a little bit better, so thanks for the story :D I haven't asked yet because I'd rather do it in person if I am going to, so it'll have to be any time after Monday if I go through with it. But I like you idea of just saying "Wanna go out?" I could just invite her to somewhere, 'cos it's not like we never hang out, because we are best friends. And I won't say I've liked her forever, 'cos I haven't :P We both know that we've liked each other in the past (our friends told me she liked me and they told her I liked her, darn friends :P) and it's only recently that I've begun liking her in that way again. And I definatly wouldn't want to make it creepy, hehe :)

 

 

 

But there's another thing that could make this harder, something I forgot to put up last night. Her short-term boyfriend dumped her just a couple of months ago without giving a reason, so she was a little cut up about that. And she still liked him a little after that (I don't know how she feels now) but what made it worse is that our friend is now going out with that boy, so it just makes it more difficult...

Eventually you would end up falling for them and that is completely normal. close guy-girl friendships actually do eventually come together. You should tell her how you feel when the time is right. Dont prevent yourself from having a relationship with her only because what might happen if there were to be a breakup.
