"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

I hate how people always assume high school relationships wont work out

I'm in high school too, heck I go to an Art's school. They're right to assume high school relationships won't work out because its true. Maybe 1 out of 20 couples will stay together after high school. That might be overdoing it, maybe 1 out of 35.

More like 1 out of a hundred, and that's assuming these are couples that are actually in a decently serious relationship in high school, which is rare.

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

you never date a friends ex. It's a universal rule.

Why?

When it happens to you, you'll know why.

I'd ditch 50 girls before I'd dog a friend.

I'd say you can date a friend's ex under certain conditions.

1) your friend dumped them, not the other way around

2) you wait ATLEAST 1 day for every month that they went out, with a 10 day minimum

3) you have to tell your friend you're interested in the ex before making a move

4) you have to have your friend's 'okay' before you proceed to date

I can agree with that, though I'd wait longer.

When I'm talking to a girl I am interested in (well very interested in this case) how should I look at her? Like what kinda of eye contact expression etc

It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.

disregard good advice because the giver is a douche

THAT MAKES YOU A BETTER PERSON

When I'm talking to a girl I am interested in (well very interested in this case) how should I look at her? Like what kinda of eye contact expression etc

When talking, look them straight in the eyes all the time. When talking to a group, do the same thing but switch between people.

Running good game, it all depends on the situation. Roughly, be a little standoffish when opening (that's if you approach random people) and rocking back on your feet like you're about to leave, slowly change that into standing 'neutral' when past the hook point (when you are having regular conversation)

If it's a girl you already know, or a friend of a friend you can start in attraction. That's when you kinda lean back, have confident but casual body language. I mentioned push pull, do this with your body language too. Mildly mimicking their body language can help building comfort.

I suggest reading The Definitive Book Of Body Language by Allan and Barbara Pease. Probably the best book out there on the subject.

When you go through the stages, change your body language to suit it. When she's qualified herself and you've shown you're interested you don't want to be standoffish etc. Lean in for a minute and lean back for push pull etc.

Then again calibration is important too. For example better looking guys should not DHV as much as others, and it all depends on her reactions.

If you want to can do compliance tests, when standing in a group step back and see if they follow. Something I think I read from Strauss is asking them to put their hands out palms down, put your hands under facing up. Squeeze, let go and lower your hands. If she does the same, huge IOI. If she asks why, I just be honest (sort of) and say it's a trust test I read about, and that she feels comfortable around me/need more time to know each other.

Dunno 'bout you but I'd take the opportunity, reguardless if she was my mate's ex. His loss, my chance and these days its a struggle to find a nice SINGLE girl in Newcastle these days

Anyways, I'm 15 and a sophomore in highschool. Last year I didn't want a relationship, but now I'm more interested. I know I'm friends with a lot of girls, but not as a girlfriend ;)

Anyways, I'm not TERRIBLY popular, mostly because I'm not allowed to do much. (But this got fixed with a counselor long story short) I'm not terrribly well dressed etc, but I'm improving :D

Anyways, there is a new girl from georgia.

Smart pretty etc.

I'm getting to know her, but I'm afraid it will end in friendship yet again :x Not that being friends with her is a bad thing but...

She was looking at me rather intensely in english though, sort of looked away when I looked at her...

Any advice?

Right, Three cheers for Boris and his relationship porblems!!

Right, so it's friday... It's been an eventful week I guess. I did manage to pluck up the courage to talk to her and well now we chat quite a bit. (2 hour lunches on Fridays are ftw). Erm... What is there to update on. Right, the other boy, the ukranian... interesting thing I guess...

Yesterday, I managed to catch up with the girl and walked with her for a bit but the other boy caught up aswell (urgh). And today when i was sitting on the couch in the room (with my arms on the back of the couch) she came and sat down next to me and I left my arms there. And well he appears to have run out of things to say, since all he managed to say today was about how Bob Dylan is rubbish... Anyway, she took my phone out of my hands and went through my texts aswell lol.

Right, anyway, there is a party in the park tommorrow, that I'm going to, the other boy is going to. And she might be going to... But, anything can happen :/

Because they don't. With high school relationships, it's not a question of if it will end, but when. Of course, there are exceptions, but it holds true most of the time. It's like telling someone they'll never win the lottery. Through some dumb luck it can happen, but the probability it will is nearly 0.

You should make what you want to happen, happen.

And don't let her go through your texts. I never let anyone do that. They'll start to lose respect for you, think they have more power, that sort of thing.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I am smart enough to delete any private ones. lol. I checked after she gave it back, much to my relief I had texts from "kyle" about random crap. And the occasional one saying park @ 7 or w/e.

But, I IMed her, inviting her to the park (turns out she wasn't going). But it's with pretty much everyone in our year, so she doesn't know where it is, so I'm walking her there xD (I'm such a gent). So, tommorrow we shall see what will happen xD

I can agree with that, though I'd wait longer.

I personally think that waiting until you're sure that they have no scrap of feelings toward that person, then ask them about it, then wait a week. THEN I'd go for it.

It's all about making sure that your friend won't feel like you're betraying him by going out with the girl that just dumped him. Basically resentment and jealousy because of her being directed towards you because you are involved and it looks like you're on her side.

Now, something I feel like I have to emphasize, is if you end a relationship with someone for whatever reason, and there's mutual [good] feelings towards each other, make sure the other person if over you before you make it clear that you've moved on, it can get you involved in a bunch of trouble, hurt someone you care about, and maybe even end the relationship you were trying to pursue. It makes it even worse if your ex happens to have a bit of a temper -.-

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

I'm verrry frusturated with my situation right now -.-

Im in highschool, and their is a girl I like. Simple, right? WRONG!

Me being me, I'm not exactly the most outgoing person I know, and I don't really know how to approach her. We have the same lunch period, but no other classes together, and I really just need suggestions on how i should pull this off, like when, where, how kinda thing

Any help would be nice.

We need to know you and her more. Where are you on the social ladder? Where is she? Is she shy? Do you share friends?

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude?

Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you?

Camera guy: still laughing

Lol, that was fast. the whole of two minutes and i have somone willing to help.

We dont exactly have a long history. I know her, she knows me, and we're both on the same link of the food chain. Not that either of us are to high up. Same classes last year, but non this year. We dont share friends, and we're both somewhat shy. I can't really tell if she likes me but we have alot of things in common, which means lots of topics ;)

Oh, and after school i have time for either 5 minutes of talking, or a full out date. I can't hang around because of my busing.

TY, BTW

Well, there's not much to do other than go talk to her when you can. If you're in different classes you'll find lots of stuff to say that the other won't know about.

I'm simply to shy, and i need something a bit more in detail than that. like how i should go about even starting a converstation with her kinda thing.

I know, im definatly lost :wall:

If she's talking to a group of friends, go along with one or two of your friends. Just to reconnect.

The best you can do is go up and say hi. Just find her when she isn't surrounded with her friends and strike up a conversation. And remember, BE CONFIDENT! If you approach her thinking you'll say something extremely stupid and make yourself look like the biggest loser in the world, you probably will. If you approach her thinking you're the hottest piece of [cabbage] in the school, your confidence will radiate. And remember your body language. It's important. Iamdan posted some good advice about that 1 page back, read that.

Thanks alot guys. I'm gunna try Something on monday -.-

You aren't shy. There's no such thing. It isn't a personality quality or a disorder or anything like that. You're just afraid of rejection. Whether social, sexual, whatever. You're scared of it. Everyone is at some point. Some folks have it easier than others, they realize it at a young age and get over it quick, while some hide behind the wall of "I'm just shy and awkward! Someone love me!"

No.

You have to take the reins into your own hands. You don't know how to talk to her? Walk up. Open your lips. Vomit words. Give a little bit of thought to what you'll say first, but nothing more than a few seconds deciding a general topic. Who gives a [cabbage] what she thinks? There's another hot girl standing ten feet away.

Think general, open-ended topics where she can give answers. Opening up with a relatively funny or silly question works good. Who was your favorite Muppet? would have worked at my school for a time (long story).

Nobody can really help you a lot. Well, that's a lie. There are a few people here that can help you a lot, and a lot more across the world that can.

But we won't help unless you show promise. You have to learn that you're in control. You're a leader, not a follower. Lead yourself right on over to her. And this weekend, I recommend going someplace, like a mall, and greeting and talking to at least 20 attractive women. This will help that rejection anxiety so much.

Here's a tip for anybody that is uncomfortable with getting physical and touching, or are afraid it might get misread by the receiving end: just do it. I used to be really uncomfortable, and freak out whenever someone touched me, but now I'm the guy that constantly gives high-fives, is always leaning on people. Hell, that's usually how I force myself into a group where I know someone or a couple people, but not everyone. Just push my head in, asking what kind of dirty deeds could be going on here.

I despise homecoming. I've had a couple girls that obviously want me to take them to homecoming, but I think it's stupid and refuse to do it. For us, our homecoming is a crappy football game that we'll lose, usually a whole bunch of fighting in the stadium's parking lot with other high schools, and crappy parties. Apparently this year there will be a crappy 2-hour dance. Hurray? Me and my friends could come up with a more fun night in ten minutes if we had a box of brownie mix and nothing else. I do kind of feel bad, though. I don't really want to make myself an outcast about it or anything, but I really really don't want to do it.

I'm also remembering why I dislike dating girls that go to my school. With any school, nasty rumors can start from the slightest thing, but if we're separated by a few miles then at least I don't have to hear them all day. This one I'll just have to suck up and be a man about, though, because dating a girl that doesn't go to your school is nigh on impossible during the school year.

Oh well. I'm tired. Bedtime.

Maybe once I make my movie, I will have women flung at me via catapults. I bet so.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Patience, young one. Patience.

As for the girl, do you talk to her? And what about? Do you connect with her infatuantly (did i just make up a word?) or personally?

The friendzone is a place we've all wound up in at one point or another. It sucks. I never take that kind of BS. Either you're mine or you're nothing is my philosophy. I suggest you flirt with this girl. Make eye contact, talk about things that she's interested in - and always have a discussion topic on hand to talk to her with. Feel free to include personal experiences and the like. Present yourself, and she'll feel open enough to present herself. You can then ask for her number, then a date...and the steps henceforeward.
