"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

Help me, oh ye of TIF. A guy I met a couple of weeks ago gave me his phone number, whilst saying do what you will with it. The whole thing was just super awkward, being at an awkward school for geeky people. Anyway, he's pretty cool but I honestly don't have time to do anything really because of my 18 credit hours of homework. I have no idea what I want and I haven't ever done this relationship thing before (as you probably know). I don't want to be rude and I do want to pursue it but I don't have the time, how do I get that across, while keeping that open?

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

Just tell him what you told us.

Well, I'd say not to pursue it unless she really pushes it. While that's a legitimate enough reason to break something off (if she was telling the truth of course), I'd say you want to see a lot of commitment from her before pursuing anything.

Made me laugh at first, but then I realized how very sad that is.

Matt: You want that eh? You want everything good for you. You want everything that's--falls off garbage can

Camera guy: Whoa, haha, are you okay dude?

Matt: You want anything funny that happens, don't you?

Camera guy: still laughing

Matt: You want the funny shit that happens here and there, you think it comes out of your [bleep]ing [wagon] pushes garbage can down, don't you? You think it's funny? It comes out of here! running towards Camera guy

Camera guy: runs away still laughing

Matt: You think the funny comes out of your mother[bleep]ing creativity? Comes out of Satan, mother[bleep]er! nn--ngh! pushes Camera guy down

Camera guy: Hoooholy [bleep]!

Matt: FUNNY ISN'T REAL! FUNNY ISN'T REAL!

What's the difference?

EDIT:

OT:

If a girl who has shown you zero interest and who you have pissed off recently by telling her truths she didn't want to hear suddenly sends you this: http://cheezburger.com/6593056512#comments with the explanation "i saw this and thought of you", does this mean that people are confusing and need to make less ambiguous statements? Because I think it does.

The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.

I told her there was a secret method to doing it - and there is - but my once nimble and agile fingers were unable to perform because I was under the influence.

I would laugh, not hate. I'm a male. :(

I actually have a hobby of licking public toilet seats.

I think she just wanted to have the last word. If you took that as her coming on to you, you might want to recalibrate your flirting

Me and Claire's relationship has lowed down a lot the past week or two. It is kind of odd, but i really don't mind it. We send each other a few texts during the week and we'll most likely see each other over the weekends. That's kinda what i need right now. Me and the girl that moved in across the street a few weeks ago have been talking a lot lately too, and she's been very flirty. I'm kind of excited about how this could turn out. She has something to her that makes me want to just talk to her as much as i can.

I went out the other night with my mates and i saw the other girl again (the one i said i really just wanted to [bleep]). We made eye contact but i [bleep]ed out and didn't talk to her. I'm going to Vegas next Saturday for a few days so i was thinking of making a point of talking to her on Friday night when we go out so i can be fresh and ready come Vegas.

Life and shit is going pretty sweet at the moment.

The girl across the road told me earlier that i can be really charming when i wanted to be. i've always known this. If i do put some effort in it, i can get any girl i want. I'm not trying to be cocky, but every girl i've ever wanted, i got. And that's not because i am good looking, or rich, or whatever but it's just because i feel like i know exactly what they want to hear. Sometims i think it's the best gift i could have ever been given, despite my weird luck with some girls. They all, always, stick around because they're curious. It's probably a dangerous thing, more than a good thing.

You should dress up as Spiderman and hit on chicks yo

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

My problem is my utter lack of self confidence. I have a big fear of actually approaching a girl, but once i'm there and once the conversation starts going things usually go the way i want them to. I'm starting to realise that more and more now, and it's making me want to get out there more and more.I just want to say [bleep] my shyness im going to go out there and get it on.

But sadly it still holds me back.

The part of the relationship i'm bad at is not the pull, but what comes after that.

It's more like a blog for him and some sort of a case study for us.

I know i kind of post a lot of useless stuff here sometimes, but i like knowing that someone might read it and then be able to comment on whether or not i am in fact doing the right thing.

You don't need others to tell you whether or not you're doing the right thing. Constantly seeking approval from your peers eventually becomes less about learning and self-growth and more about encouraging your low self-confidence because you end up depending on someone telling you whether or not you did well. And you're so much better than that. You don't need us. :P

Agreed 100%. Asking for advice is fine, but you don't need us to validate your actions.

I think asking for advice when you're inexperienced at something is always a very wise idea. When it gets to the point where you know exactly what advice you're going to be given before you ask it, then you should quit asking for advice. At that point you don't need any more advice/knowledge... just more experience, confidence, and skill. And no amount of advice can give you that.

And this thread has evolved LONG past the point of "wanting a girlfriend". Whenever a new poster comes 'round, it's like a race to see who can yell at him first for being emotionally immature.

That being said, Noxx - I also have a .1000 batting average with women. I just don't try for them very often.

My memory tells me a while ago the default advice was "grow a pair". I'm not sure if that's to be trusted.

I believe my standing opinion on this (yes I'm not sure. It's 1am, give me a break) is that you can't get anyplace if you never get up to bat.

There are also some things to be said for being aware of where you are in the social food chain, but not running for the hills if someone higher up that you tries to initiate something.

It's bad advice because it doesn't help, not because it's untrue.
