Yahoo List off "heavy" "metal"

This might be the most [wagon]-backwards top 25 metal bands of all time. I think this guy went through his iTunes and listed off his "Top 25 Most Played Songs" artists and put them into this list. What a sacrilege to Metal.

Some of the comments are worse.

"Omg where is cannibal corpse, dimmu borgir and (names other [cabbage]ty [wagon] bands)".

With the exception of some bands there are good groups there, just some of them can't be classified as metal. I do agree with black sabbath being where it is though, considering they're looking at the popular side of it.

They could have at least put SlipKnot in there..

^crawl in a hole and die, along with all the lame [wagon] Nu-Metal bands.

what the [bleep]? Alice In Chains?

somebody needs to hunt the person who wrote that down and shoot them.

they even had the nerve to put pantera in the 20 somethings.

I find it comical how the guy totally bashes Metallica in his description, yet has them ranked very highly.

just out of curiosity, do you mean they should be in a lower or a higher position?

Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.

You know the world is going stupid when Slipknot isn't given any recognition. Think of their influence on black, death, doom and power metal.

And something that translates to "not metal"?

About 1/5th of Dimmu songs actually have great metal melodies, but yeah... Lame overall impression.

Does mainstream media really regard classic rock as 'heavy metal' these days? Is anything with more than a folk guitar "heavy"? :|

It took me a while to realise that I was wasting my time listening to Dimmu Borgir and Children of Bodom. Yeah, some aspects are okay but they're overshadowed by the bad aspects, and they get a bit boring after a while. Same applies to my short phase of listening to black and death metal... I got a bit bored of how primitive black metal sounds and I just ended up laughing at how juvenile and vulgar a lot of the death metal that I listened to was. :| The only metal genres I like now are power, prog and some doom/atmospheric (namely, Agalloch).

The list is painfully generic; it's no different to going into a "metal" group on Last.FM and looking at their top overall artists.

Ha! Fool! Slipknot is the band holding the banner of metal and bringing it to its rightful resting place.

Higher, seeing as they are probably one of the best know thrash bands outside of the big 4.

for the record, slipknot is not metal, and if it is, so is bullet for my valentine.

Pantera? I hope you're joking. What does it matter if they're one of the best known outside of the big 4 (which are painfully mediocre, excluding Slayer [and even they started sucking after 2 albums]). [cabbage], they were hardly thrash metal; more so post-thrash, aka groove metal or whatever.

Just listen to Machine Head and Pantera, then compare to thrash metal bands to the likes of Artillery, Rigor Mortis, Ulysses Siren, Coroner and Razor.
