Earthquakes

Heh, dude....We just got a pretty nice sized earthquake down here, 5.8 according to the news and this map thing. I'm about 30-something miles from where it was, and it was bad enough to make the whole house shake and my monitor fall over. :|

It's also creepy as [bleep] to look outside and see the trees swaying, but it was pretty cool all the same. :P

Anyone have earthquake stories/felt this one?

Ive been hearing about that quake on the news.

any idea on what kind of damage it did in your area? Like damage to houses or fallen trees

Nothing I can see around here, it toppled my monitor and some stuff in the kitchen, but no fallen trees or structural damage around here (thank god)

It's been dropped down to 5.4

I just moved out of that area just a month and a half go. :? Calling up people as well as I can to try to get in touch with them. :(

While living in Northern California, I made it through the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, and in the later years a few smaller ones in the Bay Area. While I was attending university at UC Riverside in the last two years we had a lot of small earthquakes... So while I'm more or less "used" to earthquakes, it's still scary. :( I still can't get rid of that rumbling noise in my head from the '89 one. >_<

Hope everyone there is okay!

I've been through a few of them, but none of them were very damaging because the epicenters were about 50 miles away. I can't recall exactly what magnitute they were, but I'm sure all of them were over 4.0.

We had a small tremor out of nowhere back in April or May. Apparently everyone noticed except me. I could sleep through Lenin's conquest of the world.

I'd love to stand in a flat, open grassy area at the epicenter of a massive earthquake. Even though I wouldn't be standing for long, I'm sure it'd be so much fun. Like that one California milk commercial.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I didn't even thought it was that big. My friend and I were looking at a nice laptop when it hit in a store. We were like "Eh, so what about that then?" afterwards. Nothing fell over here though and my house seems undamaged.

At least we got one less outta the way.

We should sue mother nature for property damage. Who's with me?

Lets just slowly kill her.

I think I'm going to have to win this thread. Fine, maybe not

I spent the first four years of my life in Taiwan, and I come back every year. (I am now) Taiwan is a huge earthquake zone. Oh, and there are typhoons as well. :wall:

So yeah. I've had my share of earthquakes. The epicenters are rarely near Taipei, but a lot can be felt. As most were quite a while ago, I can't really remember them, but I'm sure there were some big ones. Once, I was in Fong Yuan, where my mom and her family are from. Apparently the epicenter for a pretty big one was near there. I saw the fault line, it was pretty big. And the damage...

The one earthquake I remember was a 6.2 or 7.2, I don't remember. It was three or four years ago, while I was here on vacation. I was in a basement, doing calligraphy. (Lawl) All of a sudden, I feel shaking...It was only for a few seconds, but woah. Earthquake. The epicenter was a bit far from Taipei (Where I was), so if I could feel it there, it must have been quite strong. I ended up going to the Taipei 101 the same day. Wonder what it would've been like if I was up there at the time.

Edit: This. One of the pictures at the bottom is labeled Fengyuan, apparently that's the same as Fongyuan.

I was 90 miles away from the epicenter of a 5.7 earthquake, but it sure felt like a 6.0 since it was so close to the surface But that was back in October. Although I remember the most hilarious thing that happened during the quake  :XD: :XD: :XD:

[hide=The funny part mentioned above]We had Guitar Hero 3 at the time and as you all know if you have it, I has the song, "The devil went down to Georgia" and it has the devil's part and your part. Right when the devil's part started the earthquake happened. Never could have had a better timing :XD: :XD:[/hide]

Why even try with that idiot? Honestly, there is no point whatsoever. I'd get better replies if I argued with a tree stump.
