I really don't understand why some people are so shitty about gender stuff.

When someone sees my dog and ask what his name is I say, "Her name is Diva." and that's that.

They don't double down after being corrected, or insist that she "looks like a male." They don't start talking about genitals, or chromosomes, or reproductive capacity. Why is it such a problem when we're talking about a person?

because dogs and humans have different expectations and rights

Every now and then, someone will ask me which tribe I'm from. It can be a little jarring.

In New Zealand, it is actually a really valid question among the Maori. They are super proud of their inheritance and can tell you heaps about it.

That is, unless they are the South Auckland mix...

Political correctness has gone a wee bit overboard. You can't do pretty much anything without offending someone, which means you can't really do anything. And then you get complaints about not doing anything.

With a major rival fan site closing (http://forums.zybez.net/topic/1783583-exit-post-the-end/page-8?do=findComment&comment=17221283) it makes me think how long Tip.it will be around. End of an era it seems.

You know, my best friend tried really hard to get me and him to sign up to be DJs for zybez radio back in the day. I think we were still in middle school at the time, god.

I don't know if I'd still enjoy internet radio these days, but I had a lot of fun with that back in the day.

You don't have to be a dick. There is a bit of an area between being a dick and being as completely pc as possible. I mean, I don't know how it is in States, but here we have treehuggers protesting cause the government wants to take down one tree to improve the road conditions on one of our most congested intersections.

They can't even clean-up trees from below power lines anymore, cause treehuggers. And god forbid anybody mentioning taking down a tree for firewood or furniture or construction. All hell breaks loose.

So I got the internet to work, without their technician's help, all by just plugging it into a different coaxial port. Now my internet is a bit better, but unfortunately ping seems rather inconsistent. The speed is also half of what they advertised but I suppose that's to be expected. Any idea how to fix this? I'll try a direct line with ethernet cable but I doubt that'll do much.

yIDMTdb.png

Update: looks like the ethernet cable does help substantially...and pinging my own router takes 500+ when it's not plugged in. Is it defective somehow?

I love it how the Today thread and the relationship thread are the only active parts of this board.

But damn, dealing with drunkards is hard. My own uncle was supposed to be in our capital by around lunchtime to get a suit for my grandma's (his mum's) funeral. He is pretty incapable of doing that sort of stuff himself, shares that with my grandpa, womenfolk have taken care of everything. Well, he doesn't show up at lunchtime. Still at my grandparents' place, a hundred miles away. Supposed to get on the bus and arrive by 3.30PM. We go out to meet him at the busstation having waited in town for a few hours already, when he should be there.

Nope.

Nothing.

We call him, he fell asleep at his place, which is in the same village as my grandparents' place a 100 miles away. Says he'll be there by car at 5 PM.

At 5.30 we call, he has driven past where he was supposed to drop off.

Half an hour later, he stumbles out of the bathroom, after having pissed himself cause he couldn't find the bathroom in time.

He can't walk straight or talk or anything. We take him straight to the car, but it's on the other side of the biggest mall in country, so quite a walk. I have to keep him up, cause he'd fall on someone or something. And he asks me if I have a spare set of pants in the car and where are the suit shops...

Well, obviously we ain't going shopping with him. And we drive home, after washing the car. He sleeps through it, but right when we start to arrive home he wakes up and wants us to turn around and go suit shopping. Needless to say, specialist shops aren't open past 7 PM... Then he starts blaming us that we didn't want him to go to my grandma's funeral and that how in the hell can he go to the funeral without a suit. All of our relatives and stuff are there.

Now he is asleep on the back seat of our car. I can bet he either wakes up in the night and starts shouting at us that we are to blame for him not having a suit or he is asleep til morning when we have to head out to prepare the burial grounds and everything and have to wake him up and he is still gonna blame us for him not having a suit.

Can't win when dealing with drunkards.

He is otherwise a guy with golden hands. He is dyslexic and was hyperactive as a kid, but so good with everything mechanical, that it is scary. He works in Norway and earns quite a bit, but it all goes into booze. And cigarettes.

The thing that I find rather interesting is how media and TV dismisses alcoholism or alcohol abuse as being funny or humorous or maybe even 'the norm'.

I like RPGs point about how drugs are less dangerous. I'll just assume he means stuff that isn't like meth or heroine. Pot is substantially less dangerous than alcohol, but the public opinion, while slowly changing, is still pretty low. I know people who live in states where it is legal and still despise its use and just go like 'those degenerates smoking weed' while they have no issue with alcohol. Is it the fact that it has been illegal for years the reason why people dislike it so much? It is literally the exact same as alcohol except I've never heard of anyone coming home high and beating their wife and kids.

Granted, maybe I'm just talking out of my ass since I have never used weed and I've drank less times than I can count on two hands being drunk for maybe half of those.

“Do you have any regrets?”

“I don’t. It seems surprising, I know, but I wouldn’t change a thing. This is how it was meant to be.”

“Huh, you never really notice how lovely the day is until you realize you’ll never see it again.”

“Mmmhmm.”

weed doesn't tend to make people violent like alcohol does, but it can definitely sap your willpower and energy to the point where you have de facto depression without it, which is something that I think's often overlooked nowadays... there's a lot of people that claim weed is like some kind of miracle herb with no drawbacks, but it's still a drug that needs to be handled in moderation like everything else

Does alcohol not also carry the risk of dependency induced depression?

If it were up to me, I'd keep marijuana illegal and ban alcohol too. Just too few positives for so many negatives.

Today I did some cleaning and played some RuneScape to get some gains during double experience weekend. I also watched a ton of anime and binged the second season of Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

Turns out my uncle has grown up and matured... a bit.

He didn't jump in our faces and realized it was his fault alone he didn't get a suit. And well, he managed to mix and match something together from the old and hand-me-down suits out here. He also behaved nice... while sober.

After we got back to my grandparents' place from the ceremony, he got drunk again and started winding himself up like we are guilty of everything. And that we want to take over his inheritance and whatnot.

Yay, drunk people.
