Can Jagex give you mark for this?

Featured Replies

Let's say i say this to a person in public chat

Can i ask where your from?

That's asking personal details, but the "Can"

I'd say no. Because of Jagex's apparently terrible banning system for that sort of thing, and to be honest, it just sounds a bit more polite, rather than a different question altogether.

They're the judge, the jury, and the plaintiff. They can.

Well the answer to that would be "YES" or "NO" wouldn't it?

Then you would have to ask the question "where are you from?"

In my opinion it's ok, whenever i'm asked the question i would say the region of the country i'm from.

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

Who are we to say they can or cant give marks, There is nobody who works for Jagex here.

If someone specifically reported you for this; then Jagex can punish you. But no-one has the nerve to report for tiddy things like that; so you should be ok. Most of my mates no where I live; and I know where they live; so its not such a big deal..

Just keep your fingers crossed. ;)

I wouldn't of thought so, but I don't think many people know what Jagex do and do not accept. I wouldn't experiment though.

I'd say yes just to be on the safe side and Jagex is only protecting the user. As said previously they are the judge it really depends which jagex moderator handles the situation.

But it's still reportable

But that's stinks , that even this can be reported for -.-

Who knows? Jagex decides to ban this sort of crap on regular basis.

"fail, well atleast the title,i wont read it with that colours"

"If you hadn't posted in rainbow I would actually give this a proper read"

"Colours suck."

*I remove colours*

"Where did all the colors go!? This is now 40% more likely to be tl;dr'd due to the lack of colors."

They can.

I'd only ask someone if they've proven to be an obviously good enough friend.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Yeah they most likely would, even though it's stupid.

Just be like I'm from Canada how bout you?

Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool

I've heard from mods that this is acceptable, but actually asking where can earn you a shiny black mark.

Don't be so sure, I got reported because someone said they lived not too far from where i was, i asked where abouts after they did and I got a black mark for it. People will report you for anything, they probs just wanna be PMs. lol.

There is a topic in RSOF called "The Reporting Academy", I believe this should answer your question but unfortunately the topic of "Asking for Personal Details" is currently under construction. I believe you can ask a question to one of the Mods after they are done .

I think the question you should be asking is "Once I have been banned after asking 'Can i ask where your from?', what should I write in my appeal.

The fact of the matter is that, even though this is an indirect question asking to ask a question, it can still lead to the real deal. I don't think Jagex would even think twice about giving you a mark because they want to keep the game secure. The more secure the game, the more parents buy membership for their 6 year old kid. The more membership, the more money. The more money, the better updates.

So yes, you would get a black mark.

It depends on the situation. If you ask "What country do you live in?", then it should not really be an offensive, but if you go into further detail such as town/superb then it should be reported. Why? Because younger players could give out information without thinking about the consequences.

Yes, but you're saying that, should the answer be yes, your next question is "where are you from".

I would try to be more specific. Stick to something broad, like country or state, that couldn't possibly be used to identify someone. I doubt Jagex would fear you tracking someone if they said "Oh I live in Montana" or the likes.

No, I think you were just being polite or curious. It wasn't as if you were going all Michael Jackson on them.
