One of the best inventions ever: Invisibility

Featured Replies

I don't think this could be used so destructively.

And then again, in 20 years I might regret saying that. Who knows.

Invisible planes flying in to army bases and bombing the base without any warning? Even just to spy on other countries/army formations. Don't forget about making soldiers invisible. The latest camoflauge, anyone?

cowardly, yes,

wise, yes

if we have a choice: know all secrets in the world BUT ending the world within 50 years, or having things to dream about and having the world last for ages, i'd certainly choose for the latter

No, it's not wise. It's just being ignorant. You can be wise and research new technology without ending the world.

And that's a ridiculous scenario.

I didn't deny that it's ignorant, but think about it, if one world power has invisibility, they could get an elite team, and walk them inside the ruler's residence, assasinate him and the chaos will destroy the whole country..

i don't want to be a doomsayer, and i don't say that WILL happen, but it's just human, the human wants power...

And am I the only person who could swear they've read this stuff a couple of years ago? :-s

:ohnoes: hmmm I guess I should join the army then, so if they do start handing these things out I can take a look at them... (provided the US let the Aus army buy them/have access to the blueprints)

Dang it'd be cool, but tbh it could be a pretty bad thing as well....

Oh well :D

But it only works on a nano-scale so it obviously can't hide objects that can be seen by the human eye, yet. In the future, probably yes.

There wouldn't be much use in making anything other than infantry and some static assets invisible, anyway.

Bombs aren't intercepted by anything short of hitting something. Planes and missiles are still detectable under radar even with this technology, and would become even more expensive. There wouldn't be a point to making a carrier or its escorts invisible, since that would be expensive, and the enemy can still pick them up with radar/sonar and see the wake of the ship. Tanks make far too much noise and tend to be quite obvious in any case.

No, what Johnny Foreigner should fear in the future are USMC ninjas.

And there was me thinking the title said invincibility. :wall:

About the cloaks and making humans invisible...

You can see because light reflects from objects and the light meets the eye.

If the light comes near you, but then gets bend, it won't reach the eye.

So making you invisible, wouldn't that make you blind either?

Perhaps the same can be said about people who are in vehicles?

Well, that's a risk we have to take in order to learn more about the world around us.

but we know the theory of invisibility, but what good can we do with invisibility which weighs up to the bad things which will happen if the research will go on?

Headshotcatcher.png

This is a very interesting discovery. Like the others, I would love to have an invisibility cloak, but for now that's probably only in the realm of science fiction (or possibly the NSA/CIA, I wouldn't bet against them having just about anything.)

Bah, I don't want to think of the horrible things that could be done with invisibility. I am not a hippy, I'm just very sceptical, but when I think of new amazing technologies, I always think of the downside of them. If ever such invisibility materials would be marketed to the public, all the crimes that are already pretty easy to commit will become child's play. Theft, murder, kidnapping... will all be a lot easier to commit. And on a larger, military scale, this obviously won't bring us any closer to peace. Dictators and mobsters will rub their hands when they get a hold of this. And I honestly wouldn't feel very much at comfort when I know people with those cloaks might be running around everywhere, privacy would once again get punched in the groin.

Bill Hicks[/url]":dhj2kan9]Since the one thing we can say about fundamental matter is, that it is vibrating. And since all vibrations are theoretically sound, then it is not unreasonable to suggest that the universe is music and should be perceived as such.

that's exactly what i'm saying

besides, what good can it do?

old news, but interesting.

its more 'cloaking' than invisibility. the article i read a few weeks ago pointed out that this technology does not make one invisible, but merely reflects and bends the surrounded light to create an illusion.

invisable bombs \' it would make meh life hell  but thts cuz im headin to the marines ::' and once i do ill quit rs :( but tht will be a while, but, imagine a invisable bomb :o u walk out the door and u hear a click :? then wat u do is see if there is a rock or something tht can hold down the weight or u must call the bomb squid or the police just to leave :| then of course police like to eat dounuts and they'll take and hour to get there  so ur standing on a bomb for a hour w8n for the police to come #-o so u end up trying to sue the government for not being there when needed but u end up losing bcuz the government always wins then u have to pay the charges for ur loyer which will cost about 5,000$ and u end up in debt and lose ur house and u end up living on the streets and 1 day u happened to see a shooting and u get shoot in a misfire

and y did u deserve this life u ask urself and the truth is u didnt deserve it and its all bcuz of a america

so then after that everywhere around the world realizes america made this and soon the all start launching atom bombs and usinf nuclear weapons on america thus, reasulting in a huge explosion which will then destroy the whole planet so if u hear me america dont do it its not worth it save our planet!

but this is meh guess on wat will happen

I read it. Let me tell you, the most intriguing part of that post was that he managed to use smilies for both full stops and commas.

OT I got excited when a read this but it's not as fantastic as I hoped. But then again, my expectations were significantly enhanced because of our good friend Harry Potter.

I love this sig.

AHAHAHAHAHA. i love all of the skepticism here. but seriously, after searching youtube, i found a few videos i had seen in the past that don't specifically prove this, but do prove that is it being worked on. and i also heard about this the other day, something about it being show on msnbc or something.

This technology involves neither chroma-keying nor photoshopping but is "quasi-invisivility" using a specific fablic and projector.

Allow me to translate.

[hide=translation]Invisible bombs, it would make life hell, but thats because I'm heading to the marines, and once I do, I'll quit RuneScape. But that will be awhile, but, imangine an invisible bomb, you walk out the door and hear a click (if anything, bombs are more advanced now, and would be rigged to blow when you open your door), then what you do is see if there is a a rock something that can hold down the weight (hell, once you move your foot even slightly off, it'll more than likely blow when you're trying to put the rock on), or you must call the bomb squad (I'd like to see a squid disarm a bomb btw ), then of course the police like to eat donuts (I'd say this guy needs to be strung up), and they'll take an hour to get there (again, I bring the strung up, bomb threats are taken very seriously). So, you're standing on a bomb for an hour waiting for the police to come. So you end up trying to su the government for not being there when needed (sorry, but what use is the government, and as I said before, bomb threats are always taken seriously) but uoi rnf up losing because the government always wins (I doubt that) then you have to pay the charges for your lawyer, which will cost about 5,000$ (can I get a source on this sum, your arss doesn't count) and you end up in debt and lose your house and you end up living on the streets (haven't people got family that'd take them in?) and one day you happen to see a shooting and you get shot in a misfire. (chances of this happening are?)

And why did you deserve this life you ask yourself (Sorry, I thought we were dead and therefore cannot think)? And the truth is you didn't deserve it and its all because of America. (Jeez pal, its not all American's fault.)

So then after that, everyone around the world realizes America made this, and soon they all start launching Atomic Bombs and using nuclear (I don't know if this is right or not) on America, resulting in a huge explosion which will then destroy the whole planet (sorry, but you'd need a big-[wagon] bomb to do that, I doubt you could fire alot of bombs at a place and end up causing a bigger explosion, its like throwing two grenades, they still have the same area of effect), so if you hear me America (more like see you type dumb-[wagon]), then don't do it, its not worth it save our planet.

But this is my guess on what will happen. (The guess of an idiot doesn't mean much.)[/hide]

I added some comments inside the brackets.

So, if you can see, his arguement/opinion is an extremely stupid hypothetical situation.

Even in full correct grammar and spelling, it would have still been stupid.
