speedofsound
Sorry, but the Patriot Act took away most of our basic civil rights. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you." Giordano
^^ Politicians don't really make that much money. Well of course they don't. That's why they have to rob it out of the treasury. All these school-safety rules are bluntly put, stupid. We go to school to learn not be protected. A school does not mean a 'safe house', it means a house of learning; of education. What's even harlious is that the common American hates the ideas of socialism adn tyranny. Well news-flash! These schools are doing just that. "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."
The Dark Lord
Benjamin Franklin would (if he were alive today) be against many things the US has done and he would believe the United States deserves to fall. "Any society that takes away a little liberty for a little extra security deserves neither and will lose both." Bush is going against our forefathers. Yet it's partly Americans [in general] who should take some responsibility on themselves. After all, they did vote him TWICE for 2 consecutive terms. If you even want some liberties back, vote Democrat next time. I'd rather pay higher taxes and have a better economy than have fewer rights as a citizen. All these '[bleep] Obama, I'm voting McCain' things are just stupid. You'd practically be voting someone that's going to continue Bush's 'legacy.' Also what's wrong with gays having rights? They're human beings. All men are created equal. You cannot justify "separate, but equal," especially since the conservative government we have in office operate "separate, but unequal." They use all of our precious tax dollars to fund a war most Americans don't even believe is just. Also all it has done was fuel anti-Muslim hate, make oil prices skyrocket, and hurt our economy. Just my little rant about my country. SWAG Mayn U wanna be like me but U can't be me cuz U ain't got ma swagga on.

Most of you may not be informed, but the government has abolished that they need a warrant to search our house, prosecute us for stated reasons, tell us why they arrested us, and no torturing. What does that mean? That means the government could search your house for no reason without a warrant when you aren't there, arrest you for no stated reason, not tell you why you are arrested, and then torture you for days on end. So, this documenting thing is no big deal when we have to worry about the government suspecting us for no reason. I <3 Gears of War 2. Lenticular_J
Not really. Elaborate. The Patriot Act hardly does anything. And it certainly doesn't affect school lunches. They started doing things like this when I started school. A tad before the Patriot Act was passed by Congress. And Benjamin Franklin wouldn't want this nation to fall. He'd want to fix it. And maybe smoke some marijuana (look at his hair, folks!). Anarchy is a terrible thing, despite what everyone would believe. All social structure would collapse. Those roads you like to drive down? Unless you take it upon yourself, they'll just get rougher and rougher. Those schools you like? Unless you're paying for them, you aren't going there. Etcetera, etcetera. Fg, unless you're checking out books on how to make explosives and guides to New York City, they aren't gonna rush into your house and waterboard you. People need to learn what this Act is and act appropriately. Instead of throwing a fit over it, worry about what it could lead to - and prevent it. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

speedofsound
@Lenticular_J What the Patriot Act does is expand upon the Governments already immense power over it's people. The Patriot Act allows wiretapping, detaining without reason, unwarranted searches..the list just goes on. And of course the Patriot Act doesn't effect school lunches. Anything related with school lunches is usually handled by the school/local government. Your right, Benjamin Franklin wouldn't want this nation to fail, but would he really be happy with the way it's going right now? Not many people are happy with the way our country is going right now, but I doubt many think Anarchy is a smart option either. Compared to Anarchy, our current situation is preferable. Like you said, we can get past this, but we need people to be aware so they can prevent similar things in the future. You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. The warrantless wiretapping is only if you call overseas and the party on the other end of the call is a suspected member of al qaida. There are not warrantless searches. What they do have are called 'sneak and peek' searches. This is where if the get a warrant they can search a suspected terrorists house and not alert them to the fact that they are being investigated which could harm the investigation. warri0r45
The one thing that ticks me off the most is being over controled. I just found out that everything we buy at lunch at school will be logged. It will also log the approximate calorie and other nutritional information intake. Our school also removed anything unhealthy from the vending machines, including my almighty pop machine. I needed the sugar to keep my awake during classes. I am underweight. Just because some people drink and eat nonstop, doesn't mean I have to be responsable for their actions. We can't bring junk food from home. First offense is a friday school. Second is 2 days Oss, and each additional is 2 days oss + 1 per number of offenses. I am a senoir in High school, i should get more rights. Even if you pack your lunch, you have to write down what you eat. The FCC has censored radio and TV things, but what is next? Internet? I don't the government who waste my tax dollars, on paid vacations and other cabbage, to control my life. I want to be able to choose what I watch and eat at my own free will, without being monitored. Isn't there a privacy amendment? What is your opionion on the US government? (sorry for all of the non US users, you can still answer if you want. I absolutely hate that when there's a problem in modern society we look to ban things instead of telling parents to take initiative and responsibility. Seriously, parents need to kick their obese kids off the computer or playstation and go ride a bike or something. Or at least the government needs to stop giving them a free ride by acting as parents by proxy with all sorts of bans and nanny-state regulations. Its a real shame that people who arent obese have to pay for the weak parenting decisions of people with obese kids. The same argument applies to censorship instead of parents being stricter about what their kids can see, governments censor things. Again, I absolutely hate that attitude. Give me a classification, don't censor what I can see. Im over 18 and should be able to view what I want unimpeded. No one should have the right to dictate to me what's fit for me to see, especially given the fact they have to first view it themselves and make a judgment on my behalf. Will H
I suggest talking with whoever controls this in your school that as an underweight person, it would be wise for you to be allowed to receive a higher calorie intake as you intend to increase your weight to healthy levels. And I don't think that this person is just 'The Government', there has to be someone in your school who actually regulates these things. Just giving a flatline limit to everyone is poor planning. Also, I suggest a method other than sugar to keep you awake in school. Like sleeping longer or getting more carbohydrates. I'm not going to judge the US government because it has no relevance to me, but I can suggest! : ~ W ~
Zierro
My opinion of the US government... Well, I'm getting really tired of the, "Don't like it - GTFO!" attitude so I'll keep things on a low tone. The way I see it, things are almost just like they were in the ancient times. There were the nobles who inherited all their wealth and had all the power (government) and then there were the peasants who had to work for the royal families (citizens). Peasants are pretty much stuck being peasants. Generally speaking, it's much much harder to become wealthy when you're born into poverty. Also, it's much much easier to become successful if your daddy is rich. If you ask me, the government just enforces this. They make sure there is a substantial line that can only be broken by something like winning the lottery. After all, they set the rules - they set the criteria - they say what goes - honestly, if they wanted to make sure that this division of the classes stayed consistent throughout time... how could they be stopped? They're in charge. Oh I forgot one more thing. There's one thing us citizens do have: We have the power to vote - for the same rich families over and over again.

Try telling your school board or whoever is in charge that junk food can be part of a healthy diet in moderationIf you were to bring 15 donuts to school, that's a different matter. Junk food can help lower stress levels and make a person calmer, and what right does the school have to take that right to eat junk food away. I'm sure a few cookies a day at lunch isn't going to make everybody obese, which is what the school boards want us to think.
