Flying

So I just got back from my first flying lesson, and it was awesome :D I mean, it's not something I can ever see myself making a career out of, but it's definitely something I want to learn. The feeling of being able to look down at everything else is just...euphoric. (Especially when it's a nice day and you're at 1500 feet going along the beach :P ) My dad's had a Cessna 182 since before I was born, so flying in small aircraft was nothing new to me, but this was the first time I've ever gotten to do anything other than lower the flaps

Anyone else here fly or take lessons or want to fly?

A million times HELL yes I want to fly. I don't think I can take classes yet, though, but maybe. Unfortunatly for me, though, I'm limited to Rc airplanes (one of which is currently in a tree and the other has a bent motor shaft from a failed night-landing) and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

I'd love to be a pilot, though more along the lines of a chopper. As people have said in the past, if the wings are going faster than where you're sitting, you shouldn't be sitting there.

So helicopters ftw.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

First: Haha, Air Force :P

Helicopters are a lot harder to fly than planes, I hear. Having to keep track of and constantly adjust pitch, collective, and torque (I think, pitch or collective might not be one), but that makes it that much more satisfying. No autopilot, but autopilot kinda takes away from the experience I would think.

Yeah, today flying a civilian plane is taking off, turning autopilot on, and napping.

I've always wanted to fly a helicopter. Or a space shuttle :twss:

i experience a phobia of going above certain heights. i'd probably wouldn't want to.

I have a small fear of heights while I'm on the ground, but if I'm in a plane, I'm just fine. Of the 3 times I've flown, I've been just fine with it.

I have a sort of phobia in reverse about heights. I could practically live in the air. Depending on how they develop air city tech, I might just do that, really. Understandably, I've always wanted to pilot an aircraft myself. I'm probably in a minority with that. Heh. \' :ugeek:

Been working off and on on my pilots stuff for the past year and a half or so. My Dad owns a share in a Cessna 152, and while I haven't been up in that plane, I'm looking forward to it. Actually, I haven't been up in a small plane for 4 years, mostly due to the fact that my Dad's license expired and we only have one certified trainer here and he's gone half the year.

Regarding flight sims- if you have Microsoft Flightsim, toss it in the trash and get X-Plane. The eye candy isn't amazing, but the flight model is so accurate that with a proper setup, you can use it to gain actual flight hours. I'd also recommend a joystick, it enhances the experience greatly. But seriously, I feel like if something happened to the pilots in flight, I could take over and safely land the plane. All of that knowledge has come from a flight sim.

I've always had an interest in planes. I'm definitely going to take flying lessons as soon as I'm able.

You can't ever find a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any. You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking, somebody'll sneak up and write "(bleep) you" right under your nose. Try it sometime. I think, even, if I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, it'll say "Holden Caulfield" on it, and then what year I was born and what year I died, and then right under that it'll say "(bleep) you."

I suppose you could say I have in interest in flying. I've been on a lot of airplanes, or at least for a very long time. I'm not really afraid of it, I'm just afraid of crashing. And if I was a pilot, I would have control over that. Hopefully.

It wouldn't be something I'd consider though. At first, at least. Flight sims are fun though.

Planes are so sophisticated now days, they can land themselves. Cool eh?

On Topic: I have always wanted to learn how to fly. I am going to go to a commercial Flight Simulator soon to try it, and I might convince my parents to get me lessons after wards :twss:.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

Lol, they land themselves with a push of a button, take off with a push of a button, and even have the most special button ever; Failorism... It makes terrorists fail lol

Lol, not true. There is no plane that can do the whole maneuver itself, including radio transmissions and making decisions only a pilot could make (such as is x cloud is safe to fly through). I do believe, however, that Airbus has been working on a Fly-by-wire system for quite some time now, and that will essentially preform a full ILS landing at a properly equipped airport.

Nah, they just exaggerated. Most of the flight can be autopiloted. Landing and taking off isn't as difficult as it was in the past, either.

I have always wanted to get a pilot's license, but a) I wouldn't know where to go, when to start, (As in, can I do it right after I leave the school I'm in now, when I'm 16 or do I have to go somewhere else first?) and B) Nobody takes me seriously when I say I want to be a pilot. It's not like I'm a 5 year old saying "I want to be a firefighter" one day, "I want to be a policeman" the next, and "I want to be a pilot" the next, repeat.

Any advice, people?

My best advice would probably be to study hard, push as much as you can into pursueing a career as a pilot and try researching on basic details of obtaining a pilot's license. Well.. thats about all a 14 year old can say.

I would love to fly not on a plane but on some sort of glider where I control the flight pattern by moving my arms instead of pushing buttons. The only thing that I'm afraid of is crashing

I'd think flying was cool, but I'm afraid of heights, I'd get nervous when I'm controlling something as powerful as a plane, and I'm too poor to get lessons

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
