Runescape : good for you ? or bad for health ??

As for vision problems, jagex encourages us to take a break every hour or so, and any eye damage can be fixes through a minor surgery.

You have a very lax position on surgery (which is definitely intriguing)! I would be devastated if I "required" surgery also can you really call any surgery "minor" it's still an intricate process that takes years of schooling and observation before they even let you into the operating room...

Nonetheless I've known office professionals who spend their entire day in front of a computer monitor and have no visible degradation of eyesight aside from a bit of "eye fatigue" by the end of the day. Being somewhere near an open window can help out a lot. Focusing on the computer can "bore" your eyes so stimulate them with a greater amount of the light spectrum!

The surgury I was talking about is called laser eye surgery it's a very minor procedure that cam fox any major problems with sight, although I'm far from an expert on laser eye surgery I am fairly certain that the effects of it are minor.

True, but it does cause increased halos\glare and worsens night vision, bad for driving.

I am frequently on the computer for 6-7 hours without a break; simply focus on something far away every once in a while. No vision problems whatsoever.

tbh rs is good for your health in some ways. RS is an anti drug in some cases

There is no argument that RS is good for you, and for some it is easily a bad thing.

Well there are some pretty nasty side-effects in about 5% of people who undergo it. Meaning blurry vision, constant pain, dry eyes, double vision, halo around lights, even blindness. To do the surgery, they cut a flap of the cornea, but by doing so they cut the nerves that produce tears, and many people who get lasik have very dry eyes for the rest of their life. They also found out that corneas don't heal completely after lasik, so you're more susceptible about ten-fold to all sorts of eye diseases, infections and problems. So it's not like just take that operation and that's it, gotta live with the possible consequences.

I was considering lasik myself but then I searched and I found out about all this stuff I thought ok, I think I'll stick with glasses lol. It's probably best to wait like 10-20 years for when the technology will be better or they found new ways.

(just a side note.. has nothing to do with the topic lol)

Runescape? no

Computers? no

It's just how the person manages their time on the thing, while still maintaining space for social life, and staying hygienic (Seriously this can affect more people than you could imagine)

Not to mention everyone is different, some people can cope with a computer for many hours on end, for the majority of the day, while others cant.

Some people can spend just as much time on Runescape as they do MSN, or even this forum. You can't dub any of these computer activities as being bad for your health. When it comes down to it, it is all up to you.

off topic but woot im in 2 peoples siggys >.>

honestly your sitting in school for hours on end so why does runescape get a bad rep?

You can't Pwn nubs if you don't get your wheaties in the morning ;)

I knew I was doing something wrong :o

I'd say that it's bad for your health, but in the way that a lot of things that people do to enjoy themselves are. It's no worse than watching television or playing xbox. Slightly healthier than getting drunk or smoking a cigarette, but slightly more unhealthy than going to play a game of football. But I doubt if there are any long-term health effects, if that's what you were asking ;)

I don't play Runescape anymore (I'll probably drop back in when the Clan wars update comes out) but I can say that in moderation, runescape is fine to play. Remember to control your social life, make sure you get outside and have loads of friends, Runescape will always be there when you return. Unless Armageddon occurs while you're outside in which case you'll never see another sword again. How's that for depressing? ::'

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

Apparently a lot of people say it. I own.

http://linkagg.com/ Not my site, but a simple, budding site that links often unheard-of websites that are amazing for usefulness and fun.

First of all, to a lot of hardcore RS'ers, this is more competitive then fun. Second of all, if you get addicted it will ruin your life like it did mine. When you find yourself doing many things that you hate doing on Runescape (Quests, skills, mini games, etc.) you're beginning to get addicted.

OT: play in moderation. taking breaks, showers, and eating when you need to can easily maintain your hygiene no matter how long you play runescape.

What about good old sunshine and fresh air? Or actually talking to people? Or developing a work ethic in the real world? Or actually making a living for yourself?

You're not getting any of those sitting on RuneScape all day. Can you honestly define such a lifestyle as socially healthy? It's barely physically healthy (CTS, arthritis, obesity, eye sight problems are all still possibilities given the lifestyle you just described)!

I think he just doesn't want to explain everything you can do when your not playing Runescape. but seriously, just take breaks...?

If Runescape ruins your life, then you're obviously making the wrong choices in your life - which makes it your fault, not Runescape's. Everyone has the ability to exert self-control.

I don't have a problem with deteriorating eye vision. My eye vision has stayed the same for a long time and I've been playing computer a lot. And I mean a LOT.

Lucky you... My eyes began to deteriorate in the first grade. And I've seen my optometrist; he said it will continue into my early thirties, at least. Yay for another 13 years of continually worsening vision!
If the CORPORAL beast is this hard, imagine how hard a GENERAL or COLONEL beast would be. a corporal is not even an admirable rank in armies that use that ranking system.

Yeah, it is a pking minigame, so any arguments anybody makes will probably be biased.

The best way this will end :Everybody just says,"I'm not arguing with you anymore, goodbye."

The worst way this will end: I don't really know, psychological warfare? Worldwide thermonuclear war? Pie eating contest?

Its just a game, if I wasn't playing RS I'd just be playing another game, so it's not really.

I don't think playing games "Ruins your life"
