Ragen
Im currently "playing" on my moms old Acoustic guitar might be buying a Bass-guitar soon  btw:is it harder to play a song on a bass-guitar or an electric? Bass guitar is usually harder due to a longer scale and heavier strings. You will also be doing a lot of finger picking instead of picking with a pick. However bassists usually get stuck playing root notes or other relatively simple to play stuff. There usually isn't much chord work (playing more than one note at a time) done. If you start off learning pop punk basslines you'll learn the basics pretty quickly. Guitar on the other hand varies a lot. Standard open chords might take a month for you to get proficient at using, barre chords can take upwards of a year. Learning scales and how to improvise is also a good thing to learn. Start off learning folk songs to learn open chords then move onto pop punk/ rock to get power chords down, etc. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar! I've been playing acoustic guitar for about a year now, so i decided im ready to go to electric guitar (that, and my friends wanted me to get one badly >.>) I guess i'm not a total newbie when it comes to guitar, but i am with electric guitars :? . So what kind of guitar should i get? Also, what kind of amp? wth are humbuckers/pickups? should i care about what kind they are now, or should i leave that for when i get more experienced? Anything else i should know? Any advice is appreciated. [94/99 Ranged][87/99 HP][80/85 Def][70/70 Pray]

For the guitar: Completely dependent on what kinds of music you will be playing For the amp: Same as above Humbuckers/pickups: Pickups are the electronic devices underneath the strings on a guitar. Humbuckers and single-coil's are two different types of pickups, each with different qualities. Generally any guitar under 1000$ dollars will need to have the pickups replaced because stock pickups are usually terrible.
ChaosFlames
Well I'm mostly into hardcore/melodic hardcore, but then again im also into some soft songs as well. Since I started out with an acoustic, I enjoy strumming a lot more, and if I ever joined a band, I'd definitely go for rhythm guitar. Evil_Sabre
Ibanez, Jackson, Schecter, and some Deans are good metal guitars, check them out. As for an amp look into Roland, they have really nice crunchy distortion for metal and the built-in effects are decent considering they own Boss, which makes high quality effects. I agree completely with the first three, but ya gotta be careful with Dean. Some of their models are really good, but alot of them are overpriced for the quality. rangeor
Just got a Cool Cat (Danelectro) fuzz pedal for only $40 and it's just awesome. I can make so many muse-ish sounds with it. [hide=Cool Cat][/hide] Also, i'm looking to buy a bass. I'm also going to get a starter pack just to save on the hassle of buying multiple things. Now my question is, which should I get? I'm mostly concerned with the amp, considering I hate compressed bass with a passion. Unfortunately I don't know anything about bass amplification; all I know is I don't want compression and that I prefer slap bass and whatever Muse uses in their bass lines. It sounds... anti-compressed? I don't know how to explain it :x. Hopefully you guys get what i'm saying.
Haaa_Haaa0
I think i know what you mean by that "compressed" sound. My friend, who's dad had a band back in his day, has a vintage jazz bass. We both hate it. It has a single neck pickup, no tone knob, and an amp that has absolutely no bite. Anyways, as for advice for selecting a bass, I'd reccomend going to your local shop, and just trying out all the different basses on several amps until you find one in your price range you like. But! before you buy, do a bunch of research. www.MusiciansFriend.com is really good if you find a good instrument but you need to knock a bit off of the price. klankaos
In the market for a new amp right now, and I'm looking at the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Checked out some demos of it on YouTube and it's sexy as hell. I can pick one up for around $550 - does that sound like a good deal? A couple years use on it, replaced the stock tubes with nicer ones (forget the exact tubes, but I remember checking them out online and they're solid, long-lasting tubes), only ever been used at around four or five for small duet gigs. I'm probably going to go for it... I just hope the guy who's selling it hasn't sold it by the time I get into town in a few days. That'd be SO depressing. Ah well - a few EBay options for around $600 incl. shipping, so that's not too bad. Being immature is a part of being mature.
assassin_696
Could anyone recommend me some decent pedals? I don't have anything too specific in mind, but I've always hankered after a wah sound, big muff style sound or a whammy. I wasn't looking to spend too much money so if anyone has any non-branded suggestions I'd appreciate them. Alternatively i'll maybe just buy a single Dunlop Wah or something and save up for the rest. Haaa_Haaa0
I'm currently looking for some strings to put on my x-mas list, both for my acoustic and electric. On my acoustic, I already know what type of string i want, I just would like a reccomended gauge, because i need to balance tone with stretchability. To be exact, the tuning I need is DADAAD. As for my electric, I'm looking for something that doesn't have a horrible sound on clean, but doesnt sound muddy on distortion. dragoonson
What sort of guitar is good for those high pitched,asshat-ty sounds like in CoB songs?Cause Ezekial Woken (my band) has found us a new guitarist without a good guitar. And the high pitch would really suit the new direction we're taking... so i herd u liek devarts? If you look at me and feel offended by my 666-ism,think.I could be just as offended by your "cross".[hide=This's why I'm hot]The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".Amen, brother :lol:Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)amen Bruder! klankaos
Yeah, this has nothing to do with anything anyone just said, but I have to tell you guys I'm getting that Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Tried it out today, and it's as sexy as promised and then some. The More Drive channel gives a way tighter sound than I had been led to believe, and it's just all-round beautiful. I didn't have any cash with me when I went into town, unfortunately - we were told the guy wouldn't be there and just caught him on his way out the door - so my mom left a $300 deposit, and we're getting the amp itself on next Sunday, eight days away. I'm SO stoked =) Being immature is a part of being mature.

Wongtong
I have an Ibanez guitar. It's black. Azvareth
Found out a friend of mine could have bought a Marshall JCM 900 40w for about $280 from another friend, but he didn't. His reason: the model doesn't fit his style of playing. Uggghhhh just change the tubes then or something! It's miles better than his current amp! EarthySun
I just started learning guitar a month ago, so I know I have a Yamaha acoustic something-or-the-other, and a pick that has the word Jesus on it. Now I know not to let my parents get my guitar stuff for me. So, basically Earthysun is Jesus's only son.

Ragen
very nice ^^ if you could do a youtube vid when you get the amp of you playing it, that would be wicked. I'm still looking for some advice on strings, in fact I'm sitting down to do a x-mas list right now :P Only way to find out which strings you like is to buy a pair and try them out. If you're using an Electric I recommend Ernie Ball Strings for long lasting, high quality strings. The gauge will depend on what tuning you play in and your preference. Start off with .10's and try out .9's and .11's too. If you detune, you might want to try out .12's and .13's as well. For acoustics, I use .14's Martins. Not that I ever change my acoustic strings (as in 2+ years since the last change). Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
