Bubble Wrapping Kids

I dont know what it is with some people. Most parents know that some kids need to get a real life and stop being babied all the time. Not this one. Theres a kid (and his behaviour shows it) at my schooI that is a major (and let me capitalize this: MAJOR) over-reactionist. If you go to my schooI you probably already know whom Im talking about, but I will not name him for privacy and legality reasons.

 

 

 

Now you probably dont know him. But hes the type who would cry if you called him fat. He looks and acts about five years younger than he is. He has no friends (though there is ONE person who he calls a friend, though I highly doubt it). Whats most ironic with this person is that he is attached to his mum as if a five year old would. Its not uncommon to see him jibbering away all lunchtime on his phone to his mum.

 

 

 

He has the most fascist personality ever. He treats himself as if he were the son of Bill and Hillary Clinton. The most frightening thing is, he is completely oblivious to others hatred of him, and his inability to pick up visual cues makes him completely immersed in a delusional state of mind that only exacerbates the original problem. His complete lack of humour and hypocritical attitude makes him the subject of well-meaning humour, where the end result is often a brain explosion that occurs on a semi-regular basis to absolutely trivial incidences.

 

 

 

He has about double the weight of a person of his height, and his physical ability is pitiful. (He received THIRTY-SIX for his dyno, while three quarters of the class can get that on ONE HAND). If you add up all these factors, you dont have to be a rocket scientist to know why most sane people would stay well away from him.

 

 

 

My point? Mommies should stop bubble wrapping their kids and treating them as toddlers. As a result, this person has turned from a person to what Id call a poor excuse for a human being. People like this should be directly referred to the Committee for Aesthetic Deletion, and stupid 65-year old mothers who still treat 13 year olds as their precious little baby are to blame.

I clicked on this topic expecting something that would be about how everything is getting childish and that you can't do anything as a kid anymore. Like that playgrounds are too dangerous and parents not letting their kids play in the mud or something.

I can't see where you've got "OCD" from that article.

 

 

 

It might not necessarily be the parents' meaning to "bubble-wrap" him though. It's not like they're demanding he phones his mum every lunchtime to check up on him. It's not like they're telling him he can't go outside and socialise. It's not them actively stopping him from moving on and finding his own life. It may very well be he's just a clingy, needy child and without any friends of his own still depends on his mother's support to help him through.

 

 

 

That said, they should make more of an effort to push him out of the house. They need to turn his life from seeing his mum as a support nexus, to seeing his friends as a support network.

He may very well be bubble wrapped by his parents, but you're not helping the situation any by basically pointing out every single flaw he has and treating him like a leper. Way to go.

 

 

 

Also, jem brought up a good point - how can you be sure of the causality here? Are you sure that the bubble wrapping came first, or did the bullying come first and result in the calls to mum, overreactive personality, etc?

 

 

 

For what it's worth, I do think that in general parents bubble wrap their kids too much these days. It's fallacious to think that bubble wrapping can only do good. It can do a lot of harm as well: underdeveloped social skills due to being overprotective, an underdeveloped immune system due to being a germaphobe, etc.

Funny how I was talking about something like this a few days ago with someone ( about how annoying it is when parents still treat you like a kid even when you're 20 or so). Thing is, mothers will never stop babying their children (especially if they're boys). It's one of the laws of nature.Yet most people turn out fine. So if there's something wrong with the kid, it's most likely his mother's treatment isn't to blame. Maybe other kids shouldn't be such jerks to him? Bullying never worked as a way of reforming someone. I dunno, just a thought... :roll:

I'm pretty sure it's not his fault, and by pointing every single damn flaw about him you fail to ever see if he has any good points. I mean, sure, stay away from him for all I care, but at least do give a thought for his feelings. So what if he is a total freak?

This kid your talking about may be everything you say he is, but that's no reason to post about him all over the net. he didn't do anything that effected you really, so why are you wasting your time putting him down.

OP never posed any sort of question to us nor did he ask anything of value. He made a post to put down some socially awkward kid who he doesn't like. I think OP needs a blog instead of just telling us this crap. And I get the feeling OP won't be showing his face around here for a while.

OP is only counted as a jerk because he was just negatively insulting someone. Don't really know why that counts as being a jerk if the OP actually wanted some discussion from this, and was just using a truthful[i/] example. Just because it hurts to say the truth, doesn't mean you shouldn't say it. We're never going to find out if the bullying came first, or it's the parents fault, or the child's for not having the 'proper social development'.

 

 

 

But anyways to the point of the post, being over-protective is extremely idiotical. Even though it's bad, I want my child to fall and scrape their knee. But I also want to teach them to get back up again, and try again. Falling down is only the beginning of something better. Stopping people from falling down and not learning those valuable ideals and emotions is why people need to be shot in the head with reality.
