All in favor of leet speak being banned on TiF?

Well, seriously, I lose IQ points everytime I try reading things like, this, and staring at it for hours like . It's annoying. I know a lot of websites are starting to do it, and it couldn't hurt could it? TiF has nothing to lose, but a lot to gain. Anyone think this is a good idea?

It wouldn't make a difference because I can just write a program to automatically convert it to English. And you spelled [)3(yph3r wrong. It's [)3(1ph3r.

Just like they can't stop people from discussing breaking the rules...or stop people from flaming/harassing one another...

With some good regex, leetspeak could be automatically turned into English. I wouldn't recommend that, though, as it could and would likely cause problems with legitimate text.

No because then I'd have to change my avvy. Horrible idear.

I'm sure that any entire post created in LeetSpeak is already considered spam. If not, then it should. The occasional, legible comment in LeetSpeak is fine, in my opinion. But entire posts created in LeetSpeak or any other "language" that requires deciphering should not be permitted (and from my understanding, I thought it was already against the rules).

I think he's referring to *any* comment made in leet speak, and I agree.

Technically it's not English, therefore it would be removed if no translation is provided.

Thread cleaned, please keep it on topic. Spam will not be tolerated.

'1337' counts as an annoying posting style, and it would be removed if a Mod saw it.

Personally, I don't think that Leet Speak should be banned. If you are using it with your friends, as a joke or in moderation, then it is fine, but if you are over using it, then a moderator should remove/fix it.

Banning it completely seems a bit harsh.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

If it is used in a way that it would be considered spam than yes it should already be being removed. Report it ;)

However, my personal opinion is if it being used in a an appropriate manner than it is fine. :? Banning it would be like banning bad spelling (  ).

This is my opinion and not an official statement from staff.

Thanks to cowboy14 for the pimp sig!

I'm pretty sure most people can tell when 1337 speak is being used ironically etc.

I'm not really bothered by it in small quantities. Usually it's to exaggerate someone's response:

and he was like 'pmfg h4xx0rz!!1!11one!11'

However if someone posted entirely in 1337 then I'd just remove it or get them to translate it to English.

3h, $0/\/\7h!n6 |!|<3 D!$??? :P ...

Eh, something like this??? :-k
... Or do we hide the translation? :| ... BTW, this is my very first time, in response to this single topic... extremely unlikely that I'd do it again... LOL!

(Personally, I normally don't like LeetSpeak... But as long as it isn't used in an annoyingly nasty manner, I'm not gonna go mad over it. ;) ...)

It shouldn't be banned entirely. However, if someone posted in all LeetSpeak, it will be removed as it will be treated as spam, at least, that's what's supposed to happen. :?

I don't recall ever seeing someone use "1337 5P34K" on Ti.It forums before unless it's to make fun of people who actually use it.

And I'm sure if anyone were to use nothing but leet speak in their posts the mods and admins would delete them.

The Tip.It community is smarter than most RS communities, we don't need to worry about leet speak here. :)

(except for the occasional idiot, but that's not really something you can make sure it doesn't happen)

Pretty much what Dragon said.

Thread terminated.

I guess that means I'm the thread Terminator?

No Tip.Iters were harmed in the making of this post.

Don't force EVERYONE to conform to YOUR way of thinking.
We're not trying to "force" anyone ... We simply want those who use "LeetSpeak" to be considerate of those that can't/don't, and therefore can't understand it and/or are annoyed by it for one reason or another. :ugeek:

Quit misinterpreting us, Azure... Geez. -.-

It's called reputation. People who go about posting in txt/leet speak usually end up having the [bleep] taken out of them for it. They soon learn by everyone else's example.

Simply put, this isn't a huge problem, it doesn't need fixing.

Personally feel this is a non issue; I rarely see it around and if so it usually has english in the post and is only a small bit, or it is someone who registered 15 seconds ago and has made 67 posts in total leetspeak.

Either way, posts in mostly or fully leetspeak is already spam, therefore 'banned' so to speak.

What Ginger said. If someone speaks in 1337 the whole time, that's their problem. They'll regret it later.
