odesa
Has anyone done any testing on this? I searched, but didn't find anything. I tested Level 78 on Paladins and had a consistent 47.67% (repeating) success rate. I am now Level 80 and have thought about doing a test to see the rise in success. Would the community be interested in testing various NPC's at various thieving levels? One interesting thing: wearing any sort of clothing or weapon dropped my percentage to 45%. I did all figures with a set of 300 attempts, so I'm fairly certain weapons/gloves might cause some sort of higher failure rate. Most people think this may be useless information, but I like to see what kind of rewards I earn for leveling my skill. odesa
OK. Since noone seems to be interested. I will be using this post to post updated success rates.
Marco
I feel as though this topic would be better suited to the General Discussion board rather than H&A so I'm moving it there for you. Hopefully you'll also get a better response than before. Any problems/questions then let me or another moderator know. ;) Um Bong0.
Kimberly
Hm. That sort of shatters my mindset that gloves and boots increased your chance of successful theiving (I could've sworn I read that somewhere, prior to the Gloves of Silence update) It'd be interesting to see the data, but bless you for pickpocketing people 300+ times at each level :
Zierro
There's seriously a better success rate at higher levels? I never really noticed a difference at all. :|
Outsanity
Gloves of Silence help, and I can verify that. At 99 Thieving with gloves of silence I fail on Ardougne Knights once every 100 or so thieving attempts, whereas without the gloves I fail once every 40 or so. |2,300+ Total|138 Combat|12 Lvl 99 Skills|99 Slayer|
Oathkeeper
I'll help out, I'll do some tests on paladins (if i can get them at 65 theiving) with full rune and with nothing on. I'll get back with the results tomorrow if i have enough time to get on and do it. This looks promising.
NukeMarine
I had a pretty detailed list of Skill Level/XP per hour/Success Rate on various NPC's. I looked for it (including on Google), but I guess it got lost in the ether after the malicious take down of the forums. Truth be told, once you can do Pyramid Plunder (especially if you have the bank opened up nearby), that's the fastest. I would like anyone who helps to not wear any items at all for their first round of testing and use a high number of attempts in order to get a more stable average. Also, I will be doing this for all the npcs to find percentages for each NPC. 300 attempts isn't that bad, because you count the fails, too. Regards. Yes_Its_Ross
I would like to see someone try to pin down the success rate. I guess it would only really be accurate at 99 though. ]
stormveritas
Interesting strategy; a bit confusing on a single premise: Is pickpocketing worth it? Haven't pickpocketed since level 60 or so; it wasn't holding a candle to Pyramid Plunder. Is the experience up in the 100k/hour range, like with Plunder? Haven't pickpocketed since level 60 or so; it wasn't holding a candle to Pyramid Plunder. Is the experience up in the 100k/hour range, like with Plunder? I get much more than 120k xp an hour with blackjacking. I am not so much interested in it's leveling advantages, but instead its money making potential, and as you said if it is worth it. Best way I know to get money right now is Sorceress's garden, picking herbs. I thought it would be interesting also to people who will sit there, going to town on an npc and feeling unmotivated after failing several times in a row. If we understand the probability for success we can plan a better or optimal time to pickpocket for loot or even xp.
Wouter828
I'd use pyramid plunder for thieving cause it's easier, faster and less monotone than pickpocketing. Click here for my blog.
Dire_Wolf
If you ask me Thieving is a nice skill and those pickpocketing is affected by somethings. Example if i had a successful pickpocket and did 3 more - i would get that 3 successful also. But i had to do it quick or it wouldn't. Maybe it was just luck, or maybe that worked that way...but i certainly found it nice. Yes, i would be interested in pickpocket testings!
Sebasdesebas
To me, pickpocketing is definatly worth it and I can easily get over 220k experience an hour pikcpocketing Knights. I would love to test the succes rate while wearing different armour sets some time, but there seems more to affect it. Like SirHemen said, when I pickpocket twice in one animation (pickpocket again before the animation ends), I barely fail on the second pickpocket. That might also be worth a try, but it'd be very difficult to test it by myself.
totalpwnage
Blackjacking is of course the fastest, but this would be interesting to look at. I'd like to see if paladins are actually a good source of money combined with decent thieving experience... ahh the good old days... and 220k exp an hour pickpocketing Knights? Well now I see why Elishot was able to get 200m exp at level 4, lol XD Started free trade with 1.5m cash. 2 weeks later, have hit max cash 2x. Inuashakent
Lol, you can't even get remotely close to 220k/hour. So... you're making a claim that was never stated or hinted by Jagex or any players before, because you had a 2.6% difference with a sample size of 300? That's ridiculous, lol. It doesn't make a difference. [Summoning guide (AOW)] [Slayer guide] [Melee & Brawl player]
NukeMarine
You can pickpocket once every 1.5 seconds, so that's 2400 times an hour. Assume a 100% success rate at 84.3 per knight, you can net 202.3k xp every hour. Also, every failure costs you 4.5 seconds of stun time. Caveats: I've not timed the pickpockets per hour in a long time (my detailed info got lost), your target disappears over time so you have to re lure him. PS: How I did my testing WAY BACK WHEN for thieving success rates. Mark down Thieving XP. Note time. Use food that has consistent heal rate. Start thieving. Now, either the XP or the items gained will tell how many times you were successful. The amount of food you used PLUS 1 minute time accounting for healing tells you how often you failed. Plus, looking at the time gives you rough idea of how many pickpockets a minute you can do (best to do this on Men). I did Men, Farmers, Bandits, Knights and others tracking success rates at various levels. Higher levels give better success rates. The success rate is very important as it Learn how to Learn Japanese on your own - Nukemarine's Suggested Guide for Beginners in JapaneseStop Forgetting Stuff for College and Life - Anki - a program which makes remembering things easyReach Elite Fitness - CrossFit
Piccy
well, at 99 thief I fail rarely... but I have yet to try paladins :P I prefer master farmers (nearly 100% success rate) ;) Thanks to Vey for the hawt siggie <
Sebasdesebas
I rarely use food, when wearing Gloves of Silence. I get at least 125k cash every hour (Search me up in the highscores, it's all from pickpocketing, I know what I'm talking about). 125k/ 50= 210k experience an hour, this being the very least when I get multiple mimes/ Foresters/ other teleporting emotes. I timed this thoroughly, I can even videotape it for you if you want.
