What's the most important lesson you have ever learnt?

All those quadratic equations in maths at school;

What could possibly help you in your life any more then quadratic equations? I'll give a few scenarios.

OH NO! My car broke down in the Australian Outback!

-No fear! Y=mx + c!

So, will you marry me?

-Only if you can (x+4)^2

(at a job interview) So, what do you look for in a person?

I look for the common denominator of the simultaneous equation!

First of all, the first equation you posted is not even a quadratic, it shows how much you know. How can you relate math to marriage? It's just like asking if history will help you succeed in your love life :roll:

Working with quadratics opens up many doors, including the ability to solve critical thinking questions and opens up the pathway for other exponential equations such as cubic, quartic and quintic functions. These are a must if you want to enter an engineering related field. Guess who makes all your tools, gadgets and items? Engineers and developers. If it was completely useless, it wouldn't be in the curriculum in the first place. Pure ignorance.

Incase you didn't realise, all those scenarios were made up to make a point of irony. Second, If it wasn't an equation, meh I was kidding. Kind of. And finally, Good point, but even still I hate all the difficult formulas which result into pumping some long things into a calculator :|

Plus quartic functions, when properly combined with sine and/or tangents, make some pretty kick-[wagon] looking graphs. Seriously, I spent an entire class period once making a very awesome graph on my calculator using various multiples of tan(72X). For example, 10tan(72x) and -10tan(72x), repeat for 8, 6, 4, and 1. Though I don't remember the exact combinations beyond 10....

I learned that apparantly some traffic laws are to be violated in the interests of convenience.

ok, this is the great lessen i have ever learned, me and 3 of my friends went to tempe to smoke at one of their brother's houses. he told us that never to break more then one law at a time. this is what you do if your holding don't speed, and stuff like that and you'll never get arrested.

don't smoke behind babys'r'us and go see a movie because you'll get arrested and the cops will talk about how they beat their kids. True story.(pm me if you don't believe me) :evil:

There's no such thing as a nice bus driver, deep down they're all out there to piss us off.

Especially those [bleep]s that insist on being paid with the exact change, ugh.

Or the bus drivers who watch you run from the bottom of the road, sprint in fact, wait for you to get there then close the doors on you and drive off with a grin on thier face.
