Prayer is ther to be used in all situations, Jagex made your combat go up if you leveled prayer. There are only two resons for this, to make it easier for players to do quests with cb lvl requirments, or so that it offsets the skill inbalance. A pure will have a higher atk/str for their cb lvl when fighting someone with prayer, but ther person with prayer will have another advantage.

 

 

 

If Jagex didn't intend if for PvP then why does your Combat lvl go up when you train it.

 

 

 

Also, I agree, if you have a skill, use it, why would you bother top get your prayer lvl up if you aren't going to use it??

saying that prayer makes "no difference to the outcome but just prolongs that battle" is the same as saying "armour makes no difference to the outcome but just prolongs the battle too" for armour allows you to tank longer. likewise prayers allow you to do that exact same thing AND hit harder too. THUS if you say that prayer should not be used since it prolongs the battle then we should all fight without any armour...just hold a single weapon and whatever that gives only attack bonus...as you can see, the flaw behind the armour argument is that most people will be wearing different armour. LIKEWISE, you can't expect everyone to be using the same prayer, have the same prayer level, same prayer bonus and drink the same number of prayer potions.

 

 

 

and finally i would like to conclude by saying that there have been countless occasions where i used prayer to save my [wagon] and turn the tables on my opponent...so just have fun NOT using prayer and getting owned by me please =D>

 

 

 

The thing about armor is that it doesn't give a 50% damage reduction. Pray when you're getting piled, I don't care. Pray to save your [wagon], whatever. Pray continuously throughout the fight, go die in a hole.

 

 

 

wait a min theres a shield that makes it so you will never see 25% of that damage. burn the heretics there all noobs because they can use a shield!!!!!

on the topic of pking, has anyone spotted pkers using the ring of stone to hide, then jump out and attack? it was an odd tactic since they still show up on your minimap, but i guess some people didn't keep an eye on the minimap...

 

 

 

i think the reason they used it was that it allowed you to pot early and reduce the rate of level loss while you were rock. i don't know if it let you set up prayers and reduce the prayer drain too....

on the topic of "the code", i get the impression that some good pkers wrote about the most profitable methods of pking and some other people read it and decided that it must be an honour code designed to let them win fights. it then mutated into the hideousness we see today.

 

 

 

this is similar to programmers of skill writing hacking applications for themselves and making the code available. then the so called "script kiddies" with little ability, use these programs and think they are cool hacker types, rather than the hacks they really are.

 

 

 

good pkers will pray or not pray as is their wont. prayer costs them money and so it is inadvisable to pray before your opponent. they understand the game and have no arguments with others, win or lose.

 

 

 

poor pkers see this as a rule everyone should follow so they can win, and then complain when they are loosing, or gloat when they are winning.

 

 

 

good pkers may drop a "good fight" comment at the end of combat, just as one of you are "sent to lumbridge".

the easter ring protects from the environment and slows the rate of stat drain the same as the ring of stone does, but is a little more obvious when standing in the wildy :-)

If a person uses a game feature that you don't, and wins because of it, you should learn from this player and use this feature next time instead of complaining about it's existence.

i completely agree. Still i see pvp more as a risky minigame, than a skill. It is just a fun past time occupation and nothing you have be specially good at.

Just today i was fighting a lvl like 108? and he was 108+6 or somthing

 

he had 90 att 84 str and like 85 def

 

I have 82 str 76 att and 76 def

 

He fought me and he never hit me until much later into the battle and hes like nice def and im like yea im 99 def : He beleived me lol

 

Then he came back later with mage and range gear

 

He'd switch to mage I'd take my armour off, he switched to range i put it on.

I have to agree with the side of the prayer argument saying that protection prayers are unnecessary in 1 V 1 fights. And, while this may not be represented in the thread, the majority of people playing Runescape (at least on P2P worlds - I do not feel I have played enough on F2P recently to speak for them) will also agree that protection prayers are "nooby" in 1 V 1 fights.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

All you have to do is play a few rounds of fight pits (on a world not taken over by a team) and you will see relatively quickly that anyone praying in a 1 V 1 will be piled, which is essentially the form of punishment used in fight pits.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The argument that prayers were put in the game for a reason is a valid one, but, for example, using protect from melee in a 1 V 1 melee fight is completely unnecessary. It merely makes both combatants hit lower and less consistently. If you wish to make the argument that then training prayer is useless, I have to disagree. Piety and other stat-boosting prayers are highly effective methods of using your prayer. Using piety will easily make up for the combat levels not put into say, attack or strength.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally, no matter what argument you attempt to bring up, protection prayers in an otherwise fair 1 V 1 fight have been deemed dishonorable by the Runescape community in general, and in a game like this, that is the final judgment. No argument will be able to change this opinion, at least in the near future.
