Teamspeak or Ventrilo?

Featured Replies

For those clans out their that use one or the other above mentioned programs, I would like to know which do you prefer and why.

For those of you who do not know what either of them is, here are the Wiki articles:

Gladz use Teamspeak, but I have both Teamspeak and Ventrilo. Although I'm more familiar and comfortable with Teamspeak, I prefer the audio quality produced by Ventrilo.

Vent seems better quality but I'm used to TS so TS.

Never worked with Ventrilo, so TeamSpeak I guess.

Like everybody else I personally think ventrilo makes a better quality of sound, but Corr uses teamspeak.

Never tried Ventrillo, used TS a bit. Only thing that annoys me with TS is the cutting off when several people talk, and the speak options. I prefer Skype on convos with up to 20 people.

You're accusing me of bigotry, how ironic. It's a nice attempt at argument, but your responses are facile and asinine, if not diatribe. Who's arrogant now?

I have Skype, but nothing else due to me unable to install anything on this computer -.-

Ventrilo has better quality but in order to use it someone has to pay a bit of money. Aftermath uses Teamspeak because we don't have anyone willing to pay for a vent.

I never tried a voice program because of my lack of a microphone, but I did listen in though. I'd say Ventrilo as it seems to have better quality.

We use TS but I still have TS, vent and skype dl'ed. Prefer skype out of the 3, but I think I'd rather TS to vent, despite the quality difference as TS is far easier to use.

I prefer teamspeak because ventrillo may be much better voice quality it lags more, 56k's seem DECENT with teamspeak and don't want to cause them any extra lag than we need.

Ventrilo ftw. The sound quality really makes it worth the switch.

Ventrilo. Quality severely outperforms TeamSpeak. I don't have to keep saying, "Sorry, I didn't hear you" like I do on TS.

So is their any free version of Ventrilo? What is the cost, and what service do they provide? Are you satisfied with the service you receive, considering the fee?

On Vent a freeware server holds 8 people, to buy a nice vent server is about 15 dollars a month for 100 people.

And can you use a 3rd party server like a spare computer?

That's the "freeware" server above with a max of 8 people. The price I mention is for a Vent hosting company that buys the "pro" license, unfortunately to be approved for a "pro" license you need to be approved by Vent and must be able to maintain at least 1000 connected users at any one time, much larger than your spare computer could hold.

This has me really interested. Where can I learn more about Pro-Rated status and servers?

One of the major downsides of ventrilo is that mac users always seem to have trouble with it even if they download the mac version of it. Since I am not a mac user I can't help them much with getting it working.

Never tried ts but from people in my clan that have apparently ventrilo is a lot better.

GoG FTW

Vent is more user friendly & produces better quality. Add in there's tons of servers out there you can use too, there's no reason not to be using it.

TS isn't user-friendly and doesn't have much going for it, unless they change the UI & can actually compete with Vent other than by users.

Are there free Vent servers aswell, or do you always have to pay for them?

I'm just used to Skype and TS, which both are free.
