Obama's Grandmother Died.

It's sad that she died the day before the election, she will never know if he won or lost know. Too bad she could not have held out for one more day.

More like 3-5 days. seeing how republicans will do anything to sneak in a few more votes.

Or to disqualify legitimate votes that didn't go their way.

I dont think this is going to get him any sympathy votes. Like it really matters who america thinks is going to be president. We could all vote for Obama and Mcain could still win, the electoral college is the real people voting, and they dont care if their family member's die they are looking at who is going to do the best for our country. America's vote doesn't matter at all, they didn't trust us when the Revolutionary War ended and america became free so they did that. well america is going to have sympathy and vote, But does it really matter?

You're right, the college's votes are the only ones that actually elect the president, but they have always voted the way their state has.

Exactly, they really have no choice. Each state is worth a certain amount of electoral votes (I think based on population, but I could be wrong) and if a candidate wins in a state, he/she gets those electoral votes. IF 8th grade history is to be believed.

They actually do have a choice. There's nothing in the Constitution (and I don't think any laws) that forbids them from voting for another nominee, but no Electors have voted against their states. And you're right, the number of electoral votes a state has is based on population.

There has actually been a case or two when the electors went a different way, I believe. Having to do with their personal moral opinions and all.

People really don't understand the electoral college. At this point it is rather obsolete, but that does not make the principle on which it was created unsound. But there is always that little hitch where a candidate can win the popular vote but not the college vote. Which has happened a few times as well.

Sad isn't it? I really wish I knew who did this and just punched them.

Thats the scary part though, no one KNOWS who actually 'DID' it

Heh, you're right. I was only going on my memory and I guess it wasn't as accurate as I thought. It kind of surprises me that there wasn't a push to reform it when it first happened; seems like people would get worried if they realized that electors didn't have to carry their state's vote.

My Brother is getting sent over-seas january 2010, no matter who is president. Obama says he's pulling the troops out, but really he's putting the troops in afghanistan >(came straight from the top, so don't say it's not true lol)<. Where-as Mcain is just putting them in afghanistan. Which IS a lot worse than iraq. SO My Brother has no choice unless they decide his unit isn't going, which is highly rare.

In Afghanistan, if you aren't being sent to the southeast mountains or northwest Pakistan (which only specially trained units are), it really is about the same as Iraq. People are, supposedly, more friendly as well. More English speakers.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Welcome to military life. I'm very loosely slated to go sometime next year 2009. We'll see. I want my president to keep or increase my pay not spend it on a bums on the street that everyone seems to think we owe something to. I'm not paid enough as it is and you want to give it out to others to make it fair? Please. His grandma is gonna give him sympathy votes, whatever if people are that stupid and influenced that easy then its sad.

They're putting troops in Afghainistan because that's where they're more needed. In Iraq it's very rare that they get something to do. They say it's to "re-establish" the government, sure. Iraq no longer needs our help, but Afghanistan does.

Aw, that's unfortunate.

He used her as a constant example in explaining health care. I won't be surprised if he uses her even more now. I know that sounds cold hearted, but it is possible.

He has my sympathies.

I've seen multiple comments about Obama getting sympathy votes because of this. Tell me, how many of you are going to vote for Obama now just because you feel bad that his grandmother died? I bet none of you. And while I know most of us a more educated than the average voter, I highly doubt very many people are going to give up their precious vote for McCain to give to Obama out of sympathy. I feel bad for him, losing his grandmother and all, but if my vote was going to McCain before this then it would continue to go to McCain after this and I'd be willing to bet most voters feel the same way. I personally think it's voters who are not confident in their candidates that feel the need to make excuses as to why their candidates lost/are going to lose. (<- I am speaking for any election with that last sentence, not just this current presidential election)

Well he gains 2 sympathy votes really, he's black and his grandma died. #-o The sympathy vote sides more with people on the fence, not those already sided with one.

Why does that quote amaze you? Because i hate him and pretty much everything he stands for? Because i will suffer as a direct result of what he does as president? Do you get paid by the government? Do you work for the government? Do you hold a DoD (Dept of Defense) ID card? Obama as president = i suffer just so those that CHOOSE to not work so hard can have what i have as someone who puts in hours and does his time. Why the hell should those people have what i have? I work harder, to earn more to support what i want in life and i get taxed more for it to pay for those that choose not to work so hard? BS. I could care less about Obama.

My family is a small business owner they suffer too. Again, i could care less about him.

What great timing. Now Obama not only has the sympathy vote, but also has yet another argument for his "better healthcare" notion.

Unless she died as a result from bad healthcare I can't see how that works. Most people can see Obama for the rich, middle-class politician he is. The fact of the matter is this: she was old, and old people die.

Yeah, I was about to agree. To die at 87 of cancer is actually pretty damn good. There's nothing medicine can (or should) do for that. I just hope she had a comfortable death with her family.

If she died from a healthcare mistake then yes he does, but it's most likely she just died. She was 87, she's had her time, she's given it a good run. If you put someone through chemotherapy and other treatments at that age they often end up in pain and depressed knowing within the next 5 years the odds of death outweigh the odds of living.

My gran died at 73 due to the doctor misreading the results and calling her "fine", next check-up she was told she is going to die within the next 6 months. She died next day. That's the only type of scenario really which could help his argument.

Right. Obama is a complete Socialist and wants to implement Communism into America. Get over yourself.
