I have to say that I have never run into that situation until now with Joe Satriani.

 

 

 

I don't know why I have never listened to the guitar virtuosos before now (Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie, etc), but I have now made sure that I never run into that mistake again.

Yes. :D

I'm not really into buying everything by an artist on the spot because of hearing one thing, but I have heard an album by a band called Blotted Science and I could tell straight away that the guitarist is excellent. I'm talking a Vai/Petrucci-esque talent.

 

 

 

His name is Ron Jarzombek. Check out his chops in Synaptic Plasticity (mind you, the picture in this video is of a former band that Ron was in; it's not Blotted Science).

I like Satch, but I find that a lot of his music is filler. I went to see him live and he just played the cream of each album, which was good.

in terms of other guitar virtuosos, I'm getting into john5 as well recently.

All style, no substance.

 

 

 

Why? Because it's overly technical, boring, show-off [bleep]ery that's not to be taken seriously, apart from Yngwie. I approach him and his music with utmost seriousness.

You guys are forgetting about Buckethead..

I quite like some of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani's stuff, but as a rule I don't go for virtuosos. I like something behind the music, some kind of soul or story.

Satriani's good :D

 

His playing style, to me at least, has a bit more emotion than other guitarists with a similar style.

 

 

 

Closest group to buying everything they've made was Dream Theater, and mainly because they never play them on the radio.

Surprised no one has mentioned Zaza yet, he's pretty amazing. Buckethead has to be my favorite though, musical genius.

I absolutely love Yngwie, he is amazing.

ugh, i feel like those guitarists and that type of guitarist just plays fast and loud which is good if you like that type of stuff, but i don't think that makes you incredible.

 

 

 

Radiohead. I hadn't really listened to any of their stuff besides like Karma Police and then i bought In Rainbows and suddenly realized that this was one of the greatest if not the greatest active band on the face of the planet. Proceed to get OK Computer, an EP, Amnesiac, everything. Brilliant.

ugh, i feel like those guitarists and that type of guitarist just plays fast and loud which is good if you like that type of stuff, but i don't think that makes you incredible.

I don't own any pure guitar albums, even though I play guitar. I'd like to but I'm always short for cash so it often isn't an option. If I could I'd look into John Petrucci's solo work and Guthrie Govan.

I'm a big fan of Joe Satriani, I think we own all of his albums... Anything with lots of guitar is good for me. I actually like the ones where he sings the most, The Phone Call sticks in my mind...

 

 

 

 

Also Trans-Siberian Orchestra has another album (not just Xmas music) 'Beethoven's Last Night' kind of morbid but really great bits of guitar...

His new album is great, If anyone wants a recommendation. That or Surfing with the Alien
