Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince (Not Read Book)

Featured Replies

Should be a great book tho, as I said, I'm pretty excited about it. It's kinda odd tho, cause I'm a 15 year old teenage boy who likes basketball, computers, and rap music, yet I'm reading Harry Potter. I defy all Harry Potter reader stereotypes  But I guess that says how good the book really is. If it can make me read it, it has to be something special!
There's a stereotypical Harry Potter reader? Would that be people of all ages, race, nationality, social upbringing and whatever other differences I cant think for right now?

If you don't fall into the 'stereotypical Harry Potter reader' you've got to be a mutant or something. :P

As for the evil Dumbledore theory... I had never really thought of it before, but it seems reasonable. I remember that quote in the fourth book striking me as odd too, and another one I can remember from the fifth one is when Ron is speculating Snape's loyalty to the Order. Hermoine says something along the lines of: "Dumbledore trusts him, and if we can't trust Dumbledore, we can't trust anyone." Seems like a bit of a hint anyway.

I truly hope he doesn't end up evil. I like him too much. :(

No offense guys, but I seriously can't see the evil Dumbledore theory being real. Rowling's fantasy world is wonderful because though different from our own, it follows a lot of the same basic principles... and the wise old headmaster being good is just something we need to accept as fact. Even when she wants to surprise us, she wouldn't take a character so basically good, someone who has been such a role model for Harry... and a role model in a different way from Sirius or from Moody, even, because he is purely good, if quirky.

On that note... Dumbledore will probably die in this book. Harry needs to have a book with no Dumbledore where he will prove himself as a hero in his own right.

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Hmm, I've been away from this article for a while, been undertaking a little research. Having noticed the link at the beginning of this post, I went to mugglenet or whatever it is, and read every single editorial article. Plus all 5 books so far. I am now as clued up as I can possibly be.

So here are a few points:

I refuse to believe Harry is done with Cho, because... well, he's just not, damn it! He probably is, and I guess I'll have to accept it. But I think the happiest end to the summer (when Harry leaves Privet Drive) would be because Cho invites him on a holiday with her, and Harry goes, then dumps her. It would certainly make me feel better. Cho's a stupid girl (all that bloody crying). No girl I know could cry that much about anything, and they've been through some serious stuff. Yes, I get far too attached to the charatcers (happens in every book I read, do NOT get me started on Animorphs. I love kids books :D)

Trust me, the movies no nothing about future plot lines, they just read off the book. Or at least, they did in the first one. I was only involved in the second one for 2 days, and not involved in the 3rd one at all. JKR might be slipping them a few secrets, but I never heard of it. The only major difference I can see is the change of Trawleny's prophesy (3rd book/film). The film makes it clear that it's Pettigrew its about, while the book has some abiguity, leaving some readers to say it refers to Barty Crouch Jr (in hindsight of course). I'm not too sure JKR invests quite that much time into her books though.

Something big is gonna happen to Dumbledore in HBP. Either he does something dodgy (as mentioned earlier), or he's gonna die. Lets face it, he's the Ben Kenobi of Harry Potter. I think he's gonna die saving Harry, so that Harry can become stronger and fight voldemort in the 7th book. It will either be Harry's fault (acted stupid like in OotP), or Dumbledores fault (did something dodgy, either deliberately, or miscalculated with a spell or something. Maybe he removes that ban on apparating inside Hogwarts by accident). Anyway, something big happens with Dumbledore.

We get loads more back story. There is so much we don't know about Snape. Why the heck hasn't he got the Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) job? Ever? What made Snape quit the Death Eaters before Voldemort failed? What was the task he did over the summer between 4/5 (and even 5/6)? We don't know.

We know there's going to be a new Minister of Magic, JKR admitted it. So who's it gonna be?

Oh, and if Dumbledore doesn't die, Neville will. Confirming once and for all that the Prophesy is about Harry. I am officially retracting my idea that Neville will ultimately kill Voldemort - that fact that the prophesy states that only Harry has the power to kill the Dark Lord kinda made that clear (this is what I see when I re read the books ;))

My only problem: I don't get to read it. My cousin is having her 18th tomorrow, and clever old me is driving down, staying over, and driving back the next day. Knowing me, I won't be safe enough to drive back home until Mid-afternoon (leave a minimum of 12 hours, or 1 hour per unit of alchohol drunk, which ever is longer), so I'll have to wait until Sunday to get my copy, by which time most have you will have finished. Stupid cousin. So I don't want to see any spoilers (at least in the titles anyway), as I'll probably be here on the forums come saturday evening, wishing that I'd pre-ordered my copy in a 24 hour tescos, rather than the local bookshop which closes at 5.30pm

So while the rest of you are thinking '24 hours to go', I'm thinking 'at least 48 hours to go....stupid cousin'.

I saw that eariler. I though that the letters he wrote were from before he was Pope, when he was still a cardinal.

I'm not gonna bother with that. I never though Benedict was any good. First he says 'I want ot unify all Christians', then he says 'Any service thats not in Latin is a step backwards'. The guy is a nutcase. Meh, he's only a temporary anyway. The cardinals didn't think they were ready for anyone young and radical yet, so they stuck an old man who's gonna die soon in to give them some time to think. It's all politics.

His statement is also based on a dodgy philosophy that everyone has a form of Christianity living inside them, which can either be quashed or mature into a full blown faith. It'sa stupid idea, as it disregards everything the bible says about the Holy Spirit. So I don't tend to trust much on what Benedict says.

Hmm, so when does the very first copy of HBP come out?(In EST)

Mugglenet says 15hours left til release? I'm guessing that's only EST or what?

signaturecj5.jpg

Well, when I go on Mugglenet, it says it's only 7 hours, which is midnight tonight (UK time) - the time when most bookstores and supermarkets are open for a party for release. The time when I would be buying my copy, if it wasn't for my cousin (see above post). Maybe it adjusts it's time for each time zone and it's respective release, or maybe you're getting it at 00:00AM Uk time (which could be 3AM or 7PM in your tim, I have no idea), so that no one gets it before the other?

Btw, thanks wyrm. Now I can read this tomorrow and not get spoilers.

Ah, ic. I guess mugglenet operates on different time zones, because as of 2pm EST (30 mins from now) , there is still 10 hours to go.

signaturecj5.jpg

W00t! There's less than 1 hour till it's out :D :D :D Though as I live in Sweden, almost no bookstores have midnight openings, so I have to wait another 10 hours till 10am on Saturday for the bookstores to open :(

Can't waait to read the book! Can't believe that I'm going to be holding the book in like 11 hours :D

As for the Cho and Harry romance, I'm pretty sure and really hope it's over. I got annoyed at Cho in the end, and now I hope for Harry and Luna.

Thanks for the sig, Runesmithie :)

No spoilers are to be posted on this thread !!

One-time #13 smither.

All-time #1 noob.

Got my copy! I went down to london with mates for a laugh, saw the world wide opening with countdown and all celebs and the queue of 5000 at waterstones, then went up the street to the next waterstones with 100 people queuing and got the book. :P

As of time of this posts, I believe it has been realeased in Australia for almost 3 hours, and in New Zealand for 5 hours. Yet to get a copy myself, even if I did, I would have to wait for my sister (the one who bought it) to read it first.

No worries though, I'll hopefully have it finished before the weekend.

signaturecj5.jpg

I pre-ordered amazon too. I believe it just comes at regular mail time

First off, these aren't spoilers. I DID NOT READ THE BOOK! My sisters next door reading it (got it 11:30, half hour before it was released :P) but I havent read a word of it These are well-educated (or not-so-well educated) guesses based on my knowledge.

THEORY I. Concerning the identity of the half-blood prince.

Possibilities mentioned:

Neville, Ron: as far as I know neither is a mudblood

Not mentioned:

Harry: one he aint a mudblood, two that would be dumb

Tom Riddle: hmm...this is my theory. mudblood, yes. seems to be a possibility

Some random other person: probably more likely than riddle

THEORY II. Concerning Dumbledore.

Let's face it, he's a bit off his rocker. I wouldn't be surprised if he was associated with the dark side. my theory: death. no backing up for it however.

THEORY III. Harry and _______ sitting in a tree...

possibly Ginny...Cho, I really really doubt it. luna, nah not a developed enough character.

THEORY IV. Snape

too high risk position for DaDA position. my guess: a whole story we didnt know--snape was a SPY as a death eater, then left before it got too dangerous

Well my sister will finish before I get it...but oh well.

Good night

ack.... i know who the half brood prince is and who dies  .

my friend just said it on msn, i diddent even ask for it.

dumb [wagon] that it is..

oh well im still gonna read the whole book :P

Some friends and I got on to the topic of Harry Potter recently; they mentioned that (and this might be a spoiler to people who've not read the second last book, so I'll small-text it) Sirius dies--I'd completely forgotten, which tells you how much I thought of book 5, eh?

I just got book 6 today--I've not started it yet. I'm going to have to read book 5 again, as I really don't remember what happens in it. In fact, I'll just read them all again; it's the Summer holiday for me now--boo-yah--so I've got quite a lot of spare time. Who'd've thought I'd get NO homework from college?

Hmm im gonan post on these, cause i think diffrently of them all, And no these are my theories, not from the book!

Neither is correct. Neville and ron are both pure mages (lol runescape), so imposible.

But Harry isnt a mud blood either, but a half born. And the title of the story is the half blood prince. Of course Tom Riddle is half blood as well, but he is Lord voldmort, so i doubt it very much.

THEORY II. Concerning Dumbledore.

Let's face it, he's a bit off his rocker. I wouldn't be surprised if he was associated with the dark side. my theory: death. no backing up for it however.

So far Dumbledore seems to be like Gandalf. Letting some stuff happen cause he knows it is ment to happen, and stoping other stuff. He is just a good guy, who has a cloudy intention of getting to a certain conclusion.

THEORY III. Harry and _______ sitting in a tree...

possibly Ginny...Cho, I really really doubt it. luna, nah not a developed enough character.

Actuly its the 6th year. There is a great chance its Luna. I think it is cause obviously they could work well together.

THEORY IV. Snape

too high risk position for DaDA position. my guess: a whole story we didnt know--snape was a SPY as a death eater, then left before it got too dangerous

This has already proven false. He has shown himself true, and that he is reformed.

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

Yeah, the first bit is pretty slow. I didn't like how the story kept wandering away from the whole Hogwarts thing, but its ok. I'm on Ch 13 now, and so far the book has been quite informative and surprising! :P
