Froboz
In my estimation, the biggest reason the prices are dropping is because you get a FREE piece from the completion of the quest and not so much the drop rate. Surely, everyone had to know that the price would plummet given that everyone who does the quest automatically receives a piece whether or not they kill tormented demons or not? Not necessarily. We get free sets of Dagon'hai and Elite Black from the quest, yet they're selling for millions and the price is rising daily. Also remember that you only get one lump from the quest. You have to get two more from killing the demons before you can make a dragon plate. I think the change in the drop rate will have a significant effect on the price of both the metal lumps and dragon plate. And, putting my money where my mouth is, I bought a set of dragon plate today. 4 posts in 3 years. Woot! :D - Froboz
wioneo
In my estimation, the biggest reason the prices are dropping is because you get a FREE piece from the completion of the quest and not so much the drop rate. Surely, everyone had to know that the price would plummet given that everyone who does the quest automatically receives a piece whether or not they kill tormented demons or not? If you want proof, just look at the price disparity between the d-pieces and dragon claws. Sure, you could say that the reason d-claws are going up while d-pieces down is that everyone wants a pair of dragon claws, but I don't think that's the full story. I mean, the price of a dragon chain stayed fairly high (About 30m'ish though, at the time, it was the best chest armor in the game) even though anyone could kill the KQ. The same with a DFH (An upwards of 40m'ish before the PVP world update), which wasn't the best helmet in the game at its time of release. The same thing *should* have happened here with d-pieces. That is, they're price should have stayed high because they're a novelty item, only it didn't due to what I perceive as a serious oversight on Jagex's-- That error being freely giving out d-pieces to players who complete the quest. This is a blatantly freaking obvious problem that I am extremely disappointed that Jagex did not see. The MOMENT that I read that you get a free piece from completing the quest, I said that the prices of the pieces would die, but I foolishly hoped that the plate price would somehow manage to survive...silly Jagexes... Dragonlordjl
A friend of mine sold his dragon plate for 20m this evening. He has no reason to lie and in the past has been trustworthy, so I don't doubt what he said. This either means that the changes to the demons are starting to set in or that a merchanting clan bought out plates.

Watershape
My guess is that dragon pl8 wont stop dropping in price till all the surplus pieces are sold, and yes there has been an attempt yesterday to push pl8 prices up but the problem is, if pl8's sell, lots of smithers flood the market again buying pieces at lowest price and making serious profit (limit is 10 sets per 4 hours). Drop rate of pieces was lowered, but it will take some more time till all the pieces are used
Dire_Wolf
I highly doubt it was a mistake how they initially made the demons. Their response should be more like; "We have made the demons stronger after careful consideration. We never knew so many players were capable of completing such a high leveled quest and were so capable of killing these demons in mass. We thought we had made the demons a challenge to even the highest leveled players but I guess we were wrong. We have now adjusted the demon so it will attack with ranged attacks more often now. That should provide a huge challenge for you high levels who had such high 65 Farming and were able to complete this amazingly hard quest. We are very sorry for accidently making the drop rate extremely high somehow, we have now fixed the drop rate so it is more rare now." "Be prepared for our next quest which will require you to kill a very large mouse who fights by throwing cheese in the second grandmaster quest. You will be required to have 70 Fletching for this one to create cheese defense shields, so be prepared! They will require 67 defense which is one of our highest updates yet! THAT should stop those high levels from complaining about new high level armor!" That seems more like what Jagex thinks amongst eachother. I agree. The only drop that's worth it: is Dragon claws, all rest is stupid items i don't give darn if i get. Now they made it harder, and also i am unsure if Dragon claws drop rate is the same or if it has become UBER RARE.
Carl
Its a step in the right direction, but i also believe they should have made d claws morecommon aswell, and also made the demons a bit tougher defence wise. +1 d claws more common=lower price =P~ That's what I don't want. #-o who gives a [bleep] about what you want, dragon claws are WAY over priced and who gives a [cabbage] about what YOU want? if people are willing to pay millions for a pair of d claws, then it's not overpriced. because people know the strength of the special and how much it's worth to them. Walka92, I give a [cabbage] about what I want. Clearly, abyssal_whip does to. The weapon isn't overpriced, it's severely under priced. It's a rather rare drop from a level 450 demon. The only ones thta actually go into the ge are from people that were unlucky enough to get it coinshared. It should be worth ALOT more trade price. People are still offering 50M+ & even 3a for them. That's how good they are. I only paid 10M for my second pair, out of luck. If you aren't lucky to get one as a drop, good luck buying one. The ONLY people complaining about them are those that want a pair but can't get one. If you had a pair you wouldn't want them to be nerfed at all. That's how good they are. Quoted from the "Dragon Claws" thread: it shouldn't be nerfed. it's enough that they'd decided to limit the claws potential to 100-50-25-25% per special. it's a highly respected item because it's a rare drop from lvl 450 demons unlike other dragon weapons where you buy one off an NPC store. nerfing the claws would just lower its reputation and drop to where the other drag weapons are. since they're dragon claws (which is part of an anatomy of a real dragon) it should hold a special place among the other stronger weapons. The part which I highlighted is also another reason. It's not the same as other dragon weapons which can all be bought. Triquos
Even though myself and many others got the great sale of 10M from the shard reward after the quest, I agree that it was a bad idea giving everyone 1/3rd of a dragon plate as a reward, it's like giving everyone a set of veracs to go kill the KQ when d chain was worth 20M. As for the starting prices, they were horrible too. D claws 150k? D plate 30M? Please. I would have thought the D claws would have been a few mill given its awesome specs, and the d plate maybe around 80M, I mean c'mon it's almost the same price as D chain when it first came out, but this time you're given 1/3rd of it, so realistically D plate is 20M instead of 30M. Not to mention the fact that it is only 1 less slash defence than 3rd age melee plate, I think for its measely price it has pretty good stats, and i'd expect 3rd age melee to fall soon, not that I care :D I don't really mind though, i'm now F2P - wearing my d plate with pride, despite the points above. I really don't care about how much it falls either because it has awesome stats and looks great (plus you gotta look good in F2P :D )
Ned
I finished WGS after this update and tried soloing. It's a joke. Like a poster before, I killed 3 with a full invent of sharks + terrorbird. If they were even easier to kill...no wonder there were some complaints. Want to help the Tip.It Crew? War_Junky_91
[hide=]I wonder why the pieces were so popular glad to know it was a mistake. I'm glad they are harder to kill now which meens more team killing and that meens more claws in the GE from cs :D Just went there, they are not harder to kill as before. At least not if you fight them face to face like I do. (I can still stay there for 2 hours with unicorn). so again, in a big font: They are right the same to kill as before, as long as you dont use safespot and prayer switch like you should! Drops are rarer now though. I agree, i killed them face to face, so nothing has changed for me. They need beeing up def wise, damage wise and maybe make them switch attacks more often. Probably the only way to really make them tougher. Mod Benny Jagex Mod 04-Dec-2008 17:00:54 We have made a couple of changes to the behaviour and drop tables of the tormented demons. Due to the layout of the area they are in, they didn't behave the way we had planned, and a knock-on effect of this was that they became a lot easier to defeat. We also made an error when we calculated how many demons players would normally be able to kill over a certain period of time, which resulted in the dragon platebody parts being dropped at a more frequent rate than we had intended. To fix these problems, and to balance the demons to our initial design, the following changes have been made: [*:3twdfwq3]The demons will behave more appropriately against Ranged and Magic attacks, and not try to use melee attacks if the opponent is attacking them from a distance. [*:3twdfwq3]The drop chances of the individual dragon platebody pieces have been reduced to give the drop rate we intended, considering the frequency at which they are killed.[/hide] Congratulations on telling us the obvious in huge font! It says DROPS ARE RARER and they will attack you better in a safespot. I dont know what they were doing before, but I saw people using range and corner hopping. They are now harder in that aspect. No where does it say their armor is beefed up or their attacks are stronger... You might want to read more carefully! :shame: They need beeing up def wise, damage wise and maybe make them switch attacks more often. Probably the only way to really make them tougher. Aneron
the safespots sucked anyways lol, so much faster to just fight them head on. I got 10+ kills solo/trip and never used a safespot. the only reason I'm not still there is the prices/drop rates.
Hammertime
I'm glad the drops have been changed, but I'm also disappointed that jagex has still not learned that with the way the ge is set up, these minor mistakes on their part send the market spiraling in weird directions and when everything they release requires some kind of fix within the next few weeks (pvp, demons, the g.e. itself, etc...) it just outlines the flaws in the economy and the way it is policed. It's a downward spiral that I honestly believe will ruin the game in the long run.
