Are these rumors true?

Featured Replies

I know not to fall for such scams as say ur password and its starred out :shame:

but i hear ppl saying that now ur password is starred out. is this true? :?

No, If you type your password and try to hit enter, the line will not be entered in chat, and you will get a little notice from Jagex in the chat box saying you tried to enter your password-- change it to something more obscure.

You appear to be telling someone your password - please don't!

If you are not, please change your password to something more obscure!

Rofl, I tried it too.

It does NOT block your PIN.

PINS are not a waste of time, I know several people who were hacked, lost all the items their characters were wearing, but had their bank items saved because of a PIN.

Keep a PIN on your bank!

Yeah it's true it does become long to always type it in, but I'm sure if someone happens to get your password, you'll be happy to have the PIN.

I don't believe it's a waste of time, you're screwed if you don't have a PIN and get hacked. My friend had a Pin on his bank and didn't lose much when he got hacked  , but my other friend lost all but 55k, all because he didn't have a PIN. (I now have the second account, lol. At least something good happened with this.)

On the MAIN topic: As someone said before, it's blocked. ::'

PINS are useful. Maybe not so much anymore but back when free trade was still about hackers used to empty accounts and banks with ease if you had no PIN.

These days the worst they could do is stick all your items into the party room or BH but it still happens.

Trust the Gene Genie!

TBH, I doubt either of your friends got "hacked"

They probably just gave their PW to someone they cannot and should not trust

So PINs are good if you think you might do something like that

oversized.jpg[/bads]

There are plenty of ways to get hacked. Ever heard of keyloggers? Warnings about not downloading anything from sites you don't trust, that sort of thing. Hacking doesn't just occur in the way your average TV show does it.

Templar Guardians

When are trying to lend something, the word to use is borrow. Not barrows, which is a mini-game.

I've never got hacked, it just doesn't happen if you are careful enough. I'm glad I deleted my PIN, it's so annoying to type it again and again and again.

I have never told a single soul any of the passwords I use, even for things outside of Runescape (passwords for my work computer, etc.)

Even being the only person to know them, my account was hacked years ago.

So it is possible.

Luckily, one of my good friends still played at the time, and this was waay before the trade-limit was introduced, so he gave me enough cash to get back on my feet. (At least to get all of my armour and weapon back.) \'

Even if Jagex does blurt out your password now, I still wouldn't go around saying it...

I know for certain I won't be trying mine just for fun, or just to see if it really does filter it out...

You either give out your password to someone directly or you download a program from a website that you should never have been at in the first place.

And, after you download that program you need to run it and on top of that not have an even half-decent virus protection.

I am going to have to say over 97% of people getting "hacked" is by their own fault.

It's really not that hard to not get "hacked".

I've played games and done stuff on the computer/internet for over 10 years, easily, and never once have I been "hacked" and I do not focus much time at all on protecting myself..

Most people that get "hacked" are just embarrassed to say that they gave out their PW or downloaded something they shouldn't have

PINs are a waste of time and energy

So if someone hacks your acct just because they can.. goes into your bank and drops all your items just for sh**s n giggles.. Would a pin of been so useless now?

And do not tell me accounts can't get hacked without you going to bad websites or d/l'in keyloggers etc.

I got a buddy that plays about 95% of the time with his chats off, doesn't bother anyone. Never goes to helpsites other than Tip.It never downloads anything out of the ordinary or questionable. One day he logged out in mid convo with me and logged back in about 5 mins later. When I went to talk to him he didn't respond and this continued for a half hour. He logs out again and the "real" him logs back in. He asked me if his acct was logged on for all that time and I said yea. Come to find out he lost everything on his character but luckily for him the 11 santas in his bank were saved by a pin.

Apparently, my signature was to big.

They almost always get you muted anyway so that account is pretty much done. Pin or no pin its game over.

PINs are a waste of time and energy

At one point, I had three accounts. The main Lady Cai had a PIN, and the two pures xx Taoist xx and Cai Is Skill didn't. Cai Is Skill had some 300-400k in cash and 3-4m in items (all f2p though -.-""). I last logged into it about a year and a half ago, and a few months ago (maybe in summer, not too sure) I logged on and he had nothing except for a goblin mail. A year before that event, Lady Cai was hacked (someone saw me on at a time I woul dnormally be sleeping) and when I logged on, I only lost what I was wearing.

Hey this one time I had 100m cash on my account

I didn't log on for 6 months, logged on and guess what:

It was all still there

Another time, I had an account with a mask and over 200k iron ore

I logged on daily and account was the same when I logged back on

BUT, one time I had an account with 400k and it was f2p and I logged on at an unusual hour once.. because I had a stomache in the middle of the night and in the morning... had 400k on it

Oh and yea right before all of those stories, I did not tell anyone my password btw

PINs unnecessary?

Oh wow are you serious?

On the help & advice forum?

I'd bet 10mil GP or $100 real cash that I got higher S.A.T. scores than you/the average person and I do not use a PIN/I think that they are wastes.

Oh and hey bud nice stats by the way, you beat me in almost every single one

He didn't say anything about stats... Or I could say this:

Why not train combat? Is it cool to be level 3? Is it cool to get a evil chicken and not have the prayer to defend yourself? Whats so amazing about being level 3? ABSOLUTELY. NOTHING.

On topic...

Bank PINs seem pointless but at the same time extremely useful, if you got hacked you wouldn't believe how happy you'd be for having one.

Also about the saying your password and it gets filtered is the most pathetic thing I've ever heard. If it happened it would have to filter everything. So "Hello, 123, Bob, TIMMEHHHHHHHH" example would be censored. #-o

Where did I say it was cool to be a level 3 at all?

If you want to know, I am a level 3 so I can mine runite ores in the wilderness with a very low threat of being killed by revs, since there are very few that can attack me due to the level difference.

I enjoy making over 1 mil GP/hr easily, the highest GP in the game from a skill, and a large part of that is because I am a level 3

You asked where did he say anything about skills?

Well where did I say anything about intelligence to begin with.
