December 23, 200817 yr I'm not against people who speak a different language. No, not in the slightest. What I AM against are those people who seem perfectly capable of speaking English but insist on trying to converse with you in a foreign language. For example, someone came up to me and said something in a language like French or Spanish. I said that I didn't understand, and if he could speak English. He continued to follow me for several minutes, and I tried a few times to get him to speak English. After several more minutes, I tried for a final time to get him to speak English, which he did: fluently. This has happened a few times, where someone speaks a foreign language for ages, then decide, "Oooh, I'll speak in a language he can understand, after I've frustrated him for a while." Discuss.

December 24, 200817 yr not sure if you're being sarcastic and pretending that 'internet extreme slang' is akin to french or spanish, or if some guy actually did try to talk to you in another language and then switched over. doesn't make sense either way honestly
December 24, 200817 yr But what if they really do just speak that language and understand English alittle bit. Wongton is better than me in anyway~~
December 25, 200817 yr I speak Hindi and Marathi. Oh, and English. I tend not to speak anything other than english on runescape... of course, if you were on a french world, then this is different...
December 25, 200817 yr Never happened to me. It was just someone trying to piss you off, and they did it in a way that worked, so they succeeded. Hegemony-Spain
December 29, 200817 yr Never happened to me. It was just someone trying to piss you off, and they did it in a way that worked, so they succeeded. Exactly. You can't let people get to you like that. If you do, they've won. If you don't, you get the satisfaction of watching them try anyway, their attempts becoming more frail by the second, until you finally burst out laughing in their face. And isn't that the best feeling of all? Roses are red,Violets are blue. This line doesn't rhyme,And neither does this one.
December 29, 200817 yr Never happened to me. It was just someone trying to piss you off, and they did it in a way that worked, so they succeeded. exactly what i was gonna say.... just ignore the guy Generally when i throw up i would rather not have it in my mouth :-X
June 24, 200917 yr similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago, someone starts following me around speaking goodness knows what language. I explain that I only speak English but they continue to follow me around, i'm a very tolerant person so i dont change worlds, then i ask a general question along the lines of: "does anyone recognize what "insert player name here" is saying", and wouldn't you know the kid starts cursing me in english well every variation of cursing that runescape will allow that is. i introduced him to my ignore list :D I dont mind that he was speaking another language at all, but to start cursing me...that I do mind  "Poetry is not an expression of the party line. June 24, 200917 yr Happened to me once or twice. Hardly a problem, i think they just can't speak english. O.O
June 24, 200917 yr Ignore list is always your friend. Having said that, Runescape is originally an english speaking game, so if you intend to communicate with its players at least be able to speak basic english and/or use quick chat. It is just as you would be expected to speak German on a german specific world. It's common courtesy. June 24, 200917 yr this has happened to me a couple of times. a player follows you talking in god knows what language on an english server... i normally tolerate it for a while and then say "you're on my ignore list if the next thing you say is in a foreign language" and always put them on my ignore list. it's kind of stupid really. if i log onto a foreign server to skill because an area's crowded, do i talk english to people and [bleep] at them if they don't understand me? of course not, because it's ignorant and rude. i speak semi-fluent french and turkish, and a little german, and my first language is english. i can normally understand what people are saying, because it's normally french or german they talk in if they're following you... but it's really annoying. doesn't get me mad, but i enjoy using my ignore list for a day or two on those ones. it's an english speaking game. if i went onto a game that was, say, created and primarily used in japan, i'd expect to learn a little japanese in case i needed help on something. it's the same in real life. my partner's dad is turkish and we went over there so i could meet him. he speaks fluent english, but i learned as much turkish as i could, because it's really rude not to. did i speak english in turkey? only to my partner and his family, and one waiter who realised i was having trouble paying and spoke english with me. so yeah, ignore list is your friend, and i always advise them to go to another server if they want to speak their own language with people.
June 24, 200917 yr Last time that happened it was actually a scammer. He kept following me because I actually talked back to him. Then I put him on ignore.
June 24, 200917 yr As said, the ignore list is the perfect choice. It's not like you HAVE to talk to the player. The solution is very simple. ;) ~ HYT Chat Rules (Click Here): Read before entering the chat. ~| Former Clan Chronicle Editor | Former Clan Improvement Member| Former TET Member |
June 24, 200917 yr It's never happened to me except on Funorb. Some people can speak a little bit of English, but if it is really getting on your nerves that he is bugging you and you don't understand, then just add to your ignore list, teleport away, turn public chat off, or you could ignore them without the help of all that fancy stuff.

Furthermore, what annoys be about the internet is how people say "its just a game" "its just the internet" "what people say doesnt matter" What's the difference between real life bullying and cyber bullying? No that wasnt sent at anyone. Anyway, it's safe to use GOOGLE TRANSLATOR since they might be insulting you in another language, where they have no balls and you have the report button. Many words in different languages that are 'swears' arent blocked etc. I dont need a siggy no moar.
June 29, 200917 yr I hate it when people are speaking a different language, however I don't think anything should be done about it. The reason it bothers me so much is because I always wonder..What are they talking about? :D

July 6, 200916 yr I agree! To be honest, when I have an annoying jerk jabbering at me, I will use another language to insult them. (E.G. Russian or Hebrew.) Plus there's the fact that I don't understand leet speak or whatever the number-letter substitutions are, so I figure we're even. July 6, 200916 yr I remember going to a french server to loan an item to a friend, who at the time was still perm muted (hes not anymore, which is great because hes probably one of the most polite people I have ever met in the game, and was pretty awsome and helpful even when muted). Thats when I realised that the game can convert QC, so he had been talking french at me but I was getting it in english. This is also when I found out he was french. I can at least say hello in french (bonjour), and this got him excited for a minute. Then I followed it up with what makes up most of my french vocabulary "je ne pas parle un francis" or "I don't speak french". Anyways, we then had a small conversation, that probably looked really odd, where he talked french at me and I spoke back in english. I am considerably better at understanding french, especialy written french, then I am at speaking it. Can't say I have had peoeple intentionaly talk foriegn languages at me once I make it clear I don't understand.
July 7, 200916 yr I've never had something like that happen to me. And honestly I wouldn't care. If I don't understand what they're saying and they won't change languages after I ask them then I'd just stop listening. It's not like I need to know what they're telling me or something. Just go back to what you were doing and ignore him, problem solved. EDIT - Signature far exceeds our sig limits but since it's so colourful you can keep it.
July 8, 200916 yr Its really odd. I've been back about a month and no one seems to talk to me unless i promote conversation... So, the solution is, if you dont speak, they wont speak. \
