Knowing Das he's srs buisness about that too. :P

While not hard music, the contrast of instruments and vocals are amazing

It came out in 2007, not 2008.

Yeah, but I heard it in 2008 so it became my song of 08!

"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."

I would take the December of '07 as '08 when it comes to music, since most of your "What was the best album this year?" threads come out in December, before said albums have had a chance to be seasoned to my ears/be bought.

The Eleventh Commandment:Thou Shalst only say "Amen, brother".

Amen, brother

Amen, brudda (referring to the 10th commandment)

amen Bruder! (german ftw)

I'm invulnerable to everything, except Lenin and Dragoonson.

That's impossible.

The only folk metal (which is more like rock) is Mago de Oz, they are from Spain and are amazing.

(but they are VERY cheesy, and unfortunately, all the videos and live DVDs look cheap)

The singer is amazing, and the guitars are very good, drums are just okay. I was in a concert on them, the album they were promoting was alot shorter/crappier than Gaia II, which was amazing. They played most of the new album (La Ciudad de los Arboles) and some old songs (Fiesta Pagana, Finisterra, Hasta que el Cuerpo Aguante) it was good, and the singer almost killed himself when he threw the stand on the microphone on the air and it hit him in the head in the middle of a song.

lulz.

Satania (old school song, awesome intro)

Finisterra (long song, amazing) Also, i want to apologize for not finding the complete song, as it's very large. The video is crap also, you should just hear it.

While I don't listen to Nightwish as regularly as I used to, they can still be very relaxing. Century Child will always hold a special place in my heart because it's the first real metal album I bought, and I think Oceanborn would still be in my personal top ten of albums.

Almost exactly my situation.Sleeping Sun and the Carpenter are still songs I destress to.

The Carpenter is kinda weird. It's the only song where the horrible male vocals of the first album actually sort of work.

And what about Romanian metal?

Negur? Bunget is definitely in the top of the list, but I'd only classify their last two albums as folk metal.

All albums from this band are incredibly brilliant.

The vocals on Astral Romance and Beauty and the Beast where good. But Marco's voice on BatB sort of freaking me out...

"Where happily ever after was to kiss a frog?"

Strange, I'd have to say my favourite track is Erämaan Viimeinen. Vocalizing and istumental is all I need, really relaxing. Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan is another favourite of mine. Now, for an actual song in English is Sleepwalker.

My list of favourites from them are:

1)Erämaan Viimeinen

2)Sleepwalker

3)Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan

4)Sleepingsun (First song from Nightwish I listened to.)

5)Eva

6)Escapist

7)Lappi I,II,III,IV

8)Nemo

9)Poet and the Pendulum

10)Ghost Love Score

11)While Your Lips are Still Red

12)10th Man Down

13)Sahara

I know, it's a lengthy list, but I like some many of thier songs. They're a great band; they have a lot of talent in thier grasp. Tuomos>Tarja >Annette>Empuu>Julius>Marco>Sami Vänskä person... I'm sure we will all remember Tarja, aye, she was a great opera singer. They have some sexy songs on their Myspace. They're friends with about every other Finnish folk band.

I'm surprised, many Nightwish fans dislike Jonsu's voice on it. I love it though, since Anette doesn't know any Finnish and it does sound very good.

[edit] Azvareth is a fan as well. Maybe you can give him a PM on Nightwish. His knowledge stretches far. I heard he even drank a beer with their guitarist.

I am indeed an, as you say, connoisseur of all things Nightwish - especially the post-Sami period (oh mr. Hietala <3). Try to find a funkier bass riff than the one on The Siren (hint: you can't).

Some fun facts: Emppu (the guitarist) has awful taste in beer, likes Gilmore Girls and thinks Black Sabbath with Ronny James Dio was the best Sabbath.

PM for more details.

Gah, I envy you.

Yeah, they're really good. Nightwish is about the only group in the Finland area I listen to. Where are Amon Aramth located?

Stockholm, Sweden.
