March 13, 200917 yr I've been thinking, if women consider themselves equal in every aspect, why should they not be forced to join the draft just like men? It's a double standard. I believe women should, but I doubt it'll ever happen. I'm not sure if we'll ever have the draft reinstated, but there's always a possibility. What does everyone else think about this?

Further meaning that if the United States needed people to fight a war they could enact this draft and pull people at random and force them to join for "x" amount of time. Much like the draft during WWII. I doubt the draft will ever happen again, but like stated..its possible. I'd like to see it happen. Some of the best machine gunners i've seen have been women. They are fully capable of doing the job so why not?

I think men and women deserve equality in every way, shape and form. A woman is just as capable in a military situation as a man is, the only problem is, in the USA at least, the big-wigs who make decisions like that are obviously patriarchal and pig-headed enough that they still want women at home, tending to the children, where their brain is definitely not being utilized to its fullest extent. Unless we're talking in places like Egypt where 14 year old's are sent to serve their country. I know that women are *usually* the said "caretaker" of the family, however, men can do just as good of a job at it as women can. It is just that we have been conditioned with these gender roles for so long (woman, at home, man, slaving from 9-5 to make a modest living) that most men never bother to learn, and the same goes for women. March 13, 200917 yr what about women having more rights over abortions if there an accidental pregnancy, if the mother wants the child but the father doesn't the mother can have the kid, but if she wants to have an abortion, but the father wants kid, she can have the abortion even though the kid is technically 1/2 his there are alot of things that women have more rights then men do besides the draft

Serving isn't mandatory unless you are drafted, but it is mandatory to sign up for it when men turn 18. Whether or not another draft is implemented is irrelevant. It's annoying because you can be punished if you don't. Some insane fine and up to like 5 years in prison. This was almost a problem for me, as I didn't really hear about it until almost 4 months after my 18th birthday. I'm surprised I wasn't being hunted down, as I was outside their 3 month grace period.

I actually wrote up a bill for my AP government class last year that would have obligated women to register. It passed by a vote of my peers, so that should be good enough for the government, right? ;) I don't believe we should have it, as I really don't consider myself to have any national attachment to any country. I'm a citizen of humanity, not of some arbitrarily defined government. But since we do have it, I think it should be equal.
