I just got the crossbow. Is it worth it? If so, does anyone have any clue of what the best, effective, cheap bolts would be? Is it good for getting xp? Thanks.

I don't know much about it at all except that it owns with addy bolts for highest hit + 15 effect

I would say it's a pretty good training weapon. It's like an über-dorgeshuun cbow. You can use ridiculously cheap bone bolts, but have a nice boost to accuracy. The spec isn't too shabby either.

"not to shabby" is an understatement, it can hit 52's or higher in PVP, and is an awsome anti-PJ device.

Nothing has been counted yet (to my knowledge) so no one knows if it's good for xp. From the few mins I tried it at soul wars it seemed a small amount faster than rune x-bow. May have just been me but if it was faster it could give rune xbow + broad bolts a run for it's money. Addy bolts aren't really all that expensive to train with for players who are better off and bone bolts hit very high for 4gp/ea for those who haven't gathered much money yet(2-3/ea from players).

 

 

 

The special has huge potential in PvP, but I can't get the high hits I'm hearing about. At soul wars with full void+dfs, eagle eye and range pots with 92 range I hit a max of about 36. I'm sure I could get higher but if it's that rare for me I'm not sure I really care :| Consistant high hits < one a million chance huge hits.

Alright, let's get this straight..

 

 

 

The bone crossbow is quite a decent weapon, mostly for lower levels/on monsters.

 

The bolts are barely even expensive, so it's quite easy to safe-range things like greater demons for grinding xp.

 

The speed is of a rune crossbow, and the power depends on your ranging level.

 

 

 

For PVP, there's much better alternatives. Since you should have a decent range level to actually range in PVP, it's not exactly a..

It's an adamant crossbow with a special attack, that can also be used to fire bone bolts, on top of every other type of bolts up to adamant. Now I don't recall bone bolts being all that hot for training (or anything at all), so the only consideration you should make if you've 61 Ranged and above is whether you want to bring it to use its special attack, as it's much more comfortable than switching to a bow.

I'm currently using it on Aviansie's with bone bolts and it is tearing through them. So far max hit has been 17 normal, 29 spec, at 89 ranged. I've only been here about 30 mins so there may be better results.

I thought they were only as strong as steel bolts at best. Addy bolts hit a bit higher. You're probably thinking of addy arrows.

Looking at the post above and from my experience, I'm pretty sure you're thinking of broad bolts. Bone bolts wouldn't only max a 17 if they were like addy at 89 range, considering I maxed a 39 using void, praying, and potted with broad at the same level.

Personally i think its one of "those" weapons. You know like a barrelchest anchor :P

The special has a Guarenteed chance of hitting your max and an additional 15 dammage IF yoour opponant is using prayer AND has a piece of god armor on.

Might as well stick with the rune cbow and use broad bolts.... especially for training.

 

Earlier post mentioned maxing 17s at aviansies without special.... that isnt worth it, since I hit better regularly with broad bolts and 85 range and a special that hits harder wont make up for that fact.

 

I feel the special is a 2 point issue. On one hand, yes, you can hit higher and you have 2 specials, but the dark bow hits its own special in ONE hit, meaning you can pick off someone much faster. Zaniks cbow is not as much money as the dark bow, however.

 

 

 

I wouldnt spend the time with it personally....

Note that the special only works on people wearing god related items or using prayer.
