danetello
I just got my first aberrant spectre task. What should I take with me and what should I wear when killing them?
manitstinks
Best mage def or prayer. Beware, they hit a loooot. I used 2 whole bunyips and about 16 monks - still didn't work well.
Lord Diddy
Slayer tower with slayerhelm/nosepeg + Salve (e). Wear full prossy\initiate\monks, and wearing everything else that gives offensive bonuses. Pray the entire time with a macaw out. If you want to bank herbs, then bring 1 pure set along with 2-3 prayer potions. If not 3 pure sets and around 5-7 prayer potions. If done what I said above, not only will the herbs cover the potions, but you will make a profit.

Slayer helm doesnt stack with Salve (e), either do Slayer Helm + Fury (The better choice) or Nosepeg + Salve (e). You can also kill them in the Smokey Slayer Dungeon in Polli with a cannon and a combat familiar/ BoB to hold the herbs. They are also not aggresive not aggresive down there, where as they are in the slayer tower. llamster
Cannon in smoke dungeon with macaw. I'm guessing you don't have a slayer helm if it's your first spec task; just wear a nosepeg and pray mage, and bring masked earmuffs for when you run through the banshees. Slayer Tower is stupid. I did some brief calculations based on qeltar's numbers in Truthscape, and if you make more than 200k an hour you should cannon. Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:
doomdfence
As others said, make your prayer bonus the highest that you can. Wear salve ammy (e) and pray magic. If you're good with your timing you can flash prayer and make even more of a profit by not having to use as many prayer pots.
Ezkaton
Nosepeg/Slayer Helm Glory/Fury/Salve (e) Proselyte (sp?) RFD gloves Whip Defender Dragon Boots Obby Cape/Fire Cape/Skill Cape/Skill Cape (t) With the set up of nosepeg, prosy, rfd gloves, whip, defender, drag boots, obby cape, and glory my prayer drains at 1 point per 5 seconds If you bank the herbs then it takes me about 4 prayer pots until my invo is full, but i always take 7 just incase, so i'd advse 7......... perhaps if you've done the quest the holy wrench. Also as the above poster said, once you've killed one, you could take the prayer off to stop wasting prayer points and potions, and be quick when you attack the next one..... though that's easier then the agression is gone and you have to attack them, not they attack you. Reacting impulsively and saying what's on your mind feels oh so good.. for a little, until you realize you just started WWIII.2672nd person to reach 2496 total. Thanks to Wicked for the awesome siggy :D
Johannas
I've spent hours at trips to sceptres, and have found the best profit to be wearing full prayer gear. Taking 1 dose of prayer potion and 1 dose of sup str/sup att or 1 dose of combat potion With full prayer gear, and 1 dose of prayer potion i can get a full invo of herbs (i don't pick up anything below harralander) I then home tele, recharge prayer points and tele back to slayer tower using ring. You can get there and back in less than 30 seconds.... Personally i do this because it is very cost effective and efficient, and my prayer potions just seem to dissapear with most of duradels tasks. I don't see the point in trying to camp for slayer when you can do it using other methods which are better overall (spending less on prayer potions, picking up more herbs for extra profit) The only down side is you lose about 5 minutes killing time per task... but you do spend less on equipment and get more money back. ------------ I find i can also get a full invo of good herbs with 4 monkfish and a bunyip. Your choice :) Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
sadukar123
Slayer helm Fury Karil's top+skirt Skill cape Barrows gloves Whip DFS Dragon boots Explorer's ring (Replace with anything you want) Inventory is DDS, 4 dose Super attack+strength, 10 Pineapple pizzas and 1 Bunyip At my stats I usually get a full inventory of herbs (Irits, Kwuarms, Ranarrs, Dwarf weed) in about 20-30 minutes. I use about 4-5 pizzas. When I bank I decant the super potions and bring an extra bunyip. stormveritas
I absolutely refuse to pray for spectres. Super set, kharils/black d hide, slayer helm, fury, d boots, dfs/mind shield/defender, whip, skill cape. Bring two bunyips and the rest food. Toggle pray when you get behind on HP, because they hit a little harder than bunyips can cover. They're also super close to POH, and easy access. It's a better idea to eat against them and tele; that way you may need a few trips, but you'll bank more valuable herbs, and save tons on prayer pots. JoeDaStudd
I normally use prayer up and kill the ones in the slayer dungeon (easy access via slayer ring or PoH and they are passive allowing you to pot and collect herbs accordingly.). Macaw is better then a BoB and you'll get a big chucky profit from them. I absolutely agree on the not praying: it is absolutely unnecessary! See the outfit selections´in the quote: absolutely fine. An alternative strategy is to carry a Ring of Dueling and Slayer ring (in your inventory - you wear RoW). Add some cheap food, say 10-20 salmon depending on your defense levels. Drink super att, super str, super def. (Bring a single dose or do it next to the bank and deposit the vials). Tele to slayer tower. Go up to the spectres. Activate your bunyip. Kill till your inventory is full (everything above aventoe/harralander). Tele to CW chest. Bank inventory. Dose up. Add 10-20 salmon. Tele back to slayer tower. You hardly lose any time and you can bank up to harralander. Good profit. No pots needed. Alternatively tele to POH and tank up on prayer. Prayer you can need for strength/defense/attack bonus. Wherever your weakness lies.
danetello
Just wanted to add that I can't use bunyips yet. 61 Summon atm . Thats why I'm doing slayer :P. Looks like im going to have to pray -.-.
zotto
Without bunyip you can still use the food method. Just take better food.
llamster
Did no one notice my post? Cannoning them is by far the most efficient way to kill them. It'll increase kills some 150% and you'll still almost break even. Be that as it may, a Slayer Helm is an absolute MUST for cannoning in the Smoky Dungeon, and I really don't think he has one if this is his first Spectres task. I realize that you can pray mage and have 1 hp the whole time, but if you make one mis-click and miss the prayer pot, *BAM* you're dead. It's really risky. If you're willing to take the risk of staying at 1 hp the entire time, go ahead and cannon in the Smoky Well. If not, I would wear full Proselyte, nosepeg, and the rest combat gear and pray Mage at the Slayer Tower. You get enough rannars to cover not only the Prayer Potion use, you can actually profit. Cannoning is the best option, except if you don't have a Slayer Helm. The risk outweighs the benefits until then. Go to the Slayer Tower. The thing that's most likely to kill you is forgetting to put on the nose peg after running through the banshees. If you're paying attention and don't lag for more than a minute or so you're not going to run out of prayer. Besides, even with a Slayer helm you're probably going to die if you run out of prayer points. mister_moocky
With proso, sgs for spec, and prayer flashing I have 'too much' prayer (I had to pray the 10% str sometimes). With a terrorbird, and a POH with an altar and a canifis portal banking is very fast. quit
llamster
^You should pray 10% by default if you have any decent income source. Cptbaker08
Why people don't cannon their spectre tasks is beyond me. 1) They don't have the money to cannon. 2) They don't want to cannon. (I know alot of people that refuse to cannon, look at rank 6 in slayer, all that exp she has came from not cannoning.) 3) They can't get to the cannon area. Aberrant spectres in Smoke Dungeon seems to have worse herb drops than Slayer tower. This is not true as they have the same drops. I kill using a cannon and i take about 1.5k cannonballs for an average task size. I usually bank once, I only pick up Ranarrs, Kuwarms, And Irits for herbs. If I get a Rune Full Helm or Mystic Bottoms I'll throw out an Irit as they are the cheapest of the 3. Also don't forget to pick up seeds. Snapdragon seeds go for ~45k a seed and Toadflax seeds can be planted for a great profit. I don't bother with super sets I just bring the cannonballs, 3-4 prayer potions and a Fire Titan pouch to summon and help with fighting.
