Tchaikovsky and 75% of Type O Negative's songs?

There's is a [cabbage]load but i'm gonna sleep now, gute nacht.

Rise Against's Hero of War. It killed me the first time I heard it.

Same. First time I ever heard it was live, and I was just like... woah.

Also, and all that could have been by nin, sometimes.

Rise above this by seether is pretty sad in my opinion.

However, it does have hope of recovery after possibly a breakup.

The song is about his borther, who commited suicide. On it's own, the song isn't too sad, but the video is.

Yeah, it is. But it's still one of my favorite songs.

Annie Lennox - Into the West

Chloe Agnew - Someday (not really a sad song, more a song of hope...but the fact that the someday isn't today is sad)

Celtic Woman - One World

Celtic Woman - The Last Rose of Summer (one of the saddest songs lyrics wise imo)

FM Static - Tonight (Not really a sad song, but it has some sentiment to me)

MGMT - Time to Pretend

Hayley Westenra - Sonny

Of those I listed, Sonny is probably the saddest one to listen to and The Last Rose of Summer is probably the saddest lyrics wise (but they're all great songs nonetheless).

May the presents of our lord and savior, Santa, be with you this holiday season!

I'd go for Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven. Clapton always seems emotionally fragile but this just one that pulls at the old heart strings.

The Fray - How to Save a Life (its got a backstory aswell behind the single)

As a song, it's fine. However, I hate how it's now the first choice 'emotional journey' song for reality TV shows. Everytime somebody wins (or is ejected from) one of these shows it seems like they have play that song as the soundtrack to compliment the semi-slow motion clip of that person's time on the show.

He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart,

and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God.

These are the Days of our Lives- Queen

The bit I find really sad is at the end of the video for it, when Freddie Mercury sings the last line;

'I still love you'

Then lifts his head, looks at the camera, and whispers, 'I still love you'.

Sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it

In time we hate that which we often fear-William Shakespeare

"I Won't See You Tonight Pt. 1" by Avenged Sevenfold.

It's about suicide(kinda written as a suicide note). The lyrics and tone just like, ruin me. I cried even after I heard it the second time. But I cry easily, so whatever.

That's my favourite song by A7X, don't really like the lyrics though, a bit over cliched but whatever.

Try writing a song in the form of a suicide note without sounding over cliched.

Easy. Model it after a suicide note written by a guy taking that anti-depressant that you always see advertised on TV.

Fade to Black would probably class as a sad song. the chorus-like part kind of ruins it as a fully sad song though, I think.

That would make it easier... but the song was based off A7X's old bassist attempt at suicide, and they took a few lines of the note he wrote and put it on the song.

I agree with Fade to Black.

Hm... I totally forgot, "Darkness" by Disturbed passes off as a sad song, in my opinion.

Actually, the "I Won't See You Again" songs were sort of modeled off Pantera's "Suicide Note" songs.

I've heard that, but I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed it was sort of based off their old's bassist suicide attempt by drinking cough medicine("As bottles call my name, I won't see you tonight")

I'm not denying that its been based on the bassist's suicide attempt. But just to add a bit, A7X is influenced by Pantera, and in a way I somewhat think a bit of the two songs are a nod to Great Southern Trendkill. For one thing, both "I Won't See You Again Tonight" and "Suicide Note" are obviously about suicide. But both Pt. 2's are extremely heavy. Probably its both Pantera and suicide attempt influenced. Food for thought.

I never denied that it was based off that either. :P

I don't know much about "Suicide Note" by Pantera(not a big fan of them) other than the fact the first part is soft, then the second part goes into a much heavier sound. So, it is similar. It might be influenced, it might not.
