Advertisement Blocking

to be 100% honest, NO ONE clicks those damn ads. At least not on purpose. If you don't intend to click them anyway then there's really no point in having them on your screen. Adblock just keeps them from showing up on your screen anyway, it's not like it removes them from the coding of the site. It really only effects things in the sense that you don't see them anymore.

I never play F2P so it really doesn't effect me either way. If I did, I would still run adblock. At least Jagex doesn't have those annoying commercial ads like you find on supernovatube and some other websites. Or the invisible audio ads that you can't stop.

Damnit, I tripped over Magzar's half inflated blow-up doll and hurt myself. I wish he wouldn't leave that thing lying around. -.-

Well I use Adblock so I never see the ads but then again I am P2P so I don't think I should have to view them anyways.

However when I went F2P for a few weeks I always turned my adblocker off because it is how Jagex keeps the free version to play the game and I want to support it like it should be.

Jagex must also get a small amount of money for when people view the ads as well because honestly I don't think many people click them. (One day I clicked a good 10-20 just for the hell of it though ::' )

I always use AdBlock when playing Runescape. Jagex makes more than enough money already from the P2P players. Besides, the money generated from the ads are negligible. On average, each click on an advertisement generates less than 2 cents, and that's only if the ad is actually clicked. The only reason F2P exists is to try to suck people in and make them pay for P2P.

I don't think the advertisers pay per click. More likely they pay for the ad space.

I agree with the fact that NOBODY ever clicks ads, is so... so true, but I think that it's a bit wrong to block them.

I've moved to Google Chrome atm so I'm dealing with advertisements, I forgot how annoying they were :wall:

I've run Adblock since I began using Firefox and I've always seen the ads when playing. It's the same ads I see when I run the RuneScape Windows client. Maybe it's because I've never told Adblock to block the ads from RuneScape/Jagex.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

I totally agree with this topic. I turn off active-x controls for websites that aren't on my "Trusted List". This causes all video adverts on RS to not show, but doesn't block picture adverts/slideshow adverts. I think I'm doing nothing wrong and I'm doing it for security reasons.

GFYS, Jagex, if you feel otherwise.

LMK if you want to know how to do this.

I'm a free player and I really dislike the adverts because they cause lots of lag for me - on one occasion I was on the street next to the phoenix gang hideout (I'm level 6) and a mugger killed me because the game froze while a large flash advertisement was loading.

Don't get me wrong - most of the adverts are ok and I can just scroll down to avoid looking at them. I've never blocked any of them because it is important to me that the game stays free, but I wish that they would go for less of the laggier ones when making contracts with sponsors.

In my honest opinion, I highly doubt that Jagex has any way of knowing whether or not the adverts are blocked (unless of course someone admits to it), which is probably why they say that it's fine if players block the adverts if they have no means of turning off their blocking software.

I don't think they will ban you unless you advertise that you're doing it.

I'm p2p, so I don't have ads, but if I were f2p my ad blocker would stop them all and I probably wouldn't even realize it.

Pretty sure their official stance is quite weak.

A major exception is if there is an adblock in place, but you don't know how to change it (such as if you have proper antiviral software and so forth.)

Anyway, I could just re-do a .html file to only open up the world screen, not too hard if I get my sourcing right,

But here is my discussion.. this does not apply to me as I am on my own computer.

It gave you scenarios if you couldn't help but block it, but if you own your own computer, then you should not be blocking them.

They'll probably never catch you/do anything about it anyways though.
