Dexek
Well, I don't know how it was last year when I was in school, but many of my assignments were late and I received full marks. The thing is that the majority of the class was even later at handing things in than myself, so for our standards I was early. I do agree that no marks should be given for plagurized material. Either site your resources or write with your own words. I don't really feel that it is too difficult to do so. I more-less stated above with my view on the late hand-in punishment. I feel that a 0 is a bit overboard. Docking a few marks for something being late makes a bit more sense. Not everyone goes home after school and has the time to hop right to homework, eat, and go to bed. Not everyone goes home after school and has the time to hop right to homework, eat, and go to bed. This is how it was when I started school, but before I finished they changed it so that late assignments couldn't be docked marks. I still don't understand how that helps a person. Makes them lazier, maybe, but help them?
Housepig
Our school policy is utterly pathetic. Just to give an example, you if you caught with illegal drugs in school, you are given three warnings, and then recieve a temporary suspension. Do you they really think that anyone stupid enough to bring illegal drugs to school will care about suspension? On the subject of coursework...they're equally lax. We're given two weeks, say, to complete a piece of coursework; then three weeks later, the teacher asks if we have the work, and recieves about three-five pieces of coursework. After another couple of weeks, he starts saying that if we don't finish the work in another week, he'll make us stay behind after school to do it. This is invariably greeted by indignant cries of "That's not fair!" and "Well, I en't staying back!" I go to the second best comprehensive school in the county. If absolute power corrupts absolutely, where does that leave God?
Will H
Intentional plagiarism gets you zero marks. In fact, if you get caught doing that just once for coursework, instant suspension and a Saturday detention, as well as zero marks. If it's something less important like regular school work, it's up to the teacher, usually a Friday detention. In our school, they see you coming. And to be perfectly honest, it's justified. I don't understand what you're being awarded for if it isn't your own work. ~ W ~

Joes_So_Cool
My school has something kind of like that, we have something I think called the "no child left behind rule", where it basically states that you can't really fail a student. It's strange. Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
The Real ET
No. No, no, no, no, NO! Those who are lazy, cheat, and copy deserve a zero. Not giving them a zero will make them accomplish anything. It just makes it okay to not work on your faults. There's a reason bad actions are attached to punishments. Every action has a consequence and to teach kids the consequence has to fit the action. If you don't do your work or cheat you don't deserve credit. Cowards can't block Warriors.

It's strange. My school has been going that direction for a while; we finally got a big faculty push to start demanding work. The main thing people were mad over was a plan(never voted on or instated) to remove graded homework, but more importantly the fact students passed a class semester with an F, F, and C(and the fact some were trying to make F, F, D passing). Yes, my school considers two failing grades out of three for a semester good enough to get credit. Orthodoxy is unconciousnessthe only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed. Furah
Ok, what is up with schools and making [developmentally delayed]ed policies? At my sisters' school if your hair is shoulder length or more you instantly get a behaviour card if it is not tied up, they then tell you to tie it up or get it cut, my friend who has his hair down long has to get it cut or tied back, and he has that style of hair with a long fringe and all the hair goes to about shoulder length, so he isn't happy. Socks have to be equal length from heel to toe and heel to the top of it, or it is a detention. The school also has taken a new propaganda-style approach to bullying, they handed out a booklet type thing on acceptable behaviour, and they constantly talk about bullying. Also whenever questioned about these policies teachers just say it isn't their rules and you have to take it up with someone else, but they all say it. #-o Steam | PM me for BBM PIN Nine naked men is a technological achievement. fastortoise
Plagiarism deserves 0% and an "X" on some sort of permanent academic-record. Only real dirt bags would plagiarize, so I think giving them a nice 0 is fitting. As for late submissions.. why don't teachers just take off 5% each school day it's handed in late? It's what I've seen done all my life and it works.

And chances are, if you are one of the people handing in a 100%, you won't be late with it. Just saying.

Latinoking
High school is suppose to prepare for you for college. College professors do NOT allow plagiarism. If you do it you will pay the consequences, of course it greatly depends on how "nice" the professor is, but some simply don't care. You will lose your "money" (more then likely the loan you're using) and the Dean will kick you out, and it's certainly does not look good in your record. This is simply a free pass for people who like to do work into the last second and simply cheat or are lazy in high school. Simply Inexcusable.
