Slayer: Dagannoth Tasks & Bandos Armour

I have a couple more questions, if you could answer them that'd be great so I can ensure I'm not doing anything stupid with my Slaying.

1) Dagannoth tasks. I don't own a cannon and I don't intend to buy one, so I need to know which is better for killing them for pure melee: under the Lighthouse or CT. Obviously the argument is whether the CT provide enough drops to cover the cost of potions, and is it true that the Dagannoths in the CT drop more charms? That could be an important deciding factor.

2) I'm currently using Bandos chest and tassets for most of my tasks, but I was wondering if they are worth the money. I have an 11M cashpile to use for things like potions and food, but I currently have enough pouches and scrolls for familiars so that isn't an issue currently. Dharok's Platebody and Torag's Platelegs combined cost just under 700k, so I would be looking at a further ~25M to add to my cashpile in case I needed it. I get extra defence with Barrows armour, and the extra money could be spent on a Berserker ring? That is one more point actually, is the RoW worth using over other rings such as a Zerker?

if you go on slayer tasks a lot you should take guthans to daganoths... works very well (lighthouse = advised) you'd cover a lot of the costs to and barely need any food at all (switch to a whip when you don't need health though, will speed up tasks a lot)

guthans speeds up your task by an incredible amount because you don't have to bank every so often. (unless you have a bunyip which would help you more thus no need for guthans)

so it just depends on whether you can use a bunyip or not. if you have a bunyip use it, about 20 monks, a second bunyip pouch and you should be fine

and barrow armor > bandos... the only place where you really need bandos is the monsters who hit hard and often...

dagannoth's certainly not the place to use it

1) CT all the way you can get 60 crimsons per hour with 70 melee stats. They drop fremmy blades, helms, shields and other worth while drops which will allow you to profit (yes after potions) from the trip by about 100k of so.

2) Up to you.

Bersker vs RoW depends on the task.

[hide=Drops]

  • Dragon Axe x11
    Berserker Ring x9
    Warrior Ring x8
    Seercull
    Dragon Med
Dragon Boots x4 - all less then 30 kc
    Godsword Shard (bandos)
    Granite Maul x 3

Solo only - doesn't include barrows[/hide][hide=Stats]

Definately CT, i normally get about 40 crimson charms per task, and about 150K worth of drops. Bring alch runes and alch all of the fremennik armour. You also get circular hides and sometimes warrior/berserker helms. And you'll get more slayer xp.

For my Dagannoth tasks I killed the ones in Chaos Tunnels.

Were Prossy Chest & Legs & pray range.

On average task of 170 I used 4-5 4 dose Pray Pots, although I was using SGS to replenish Pray.

The drops more than covered the cost of prayer pots & most of the time I came away with between 150k & 200k profit - more if you manage to get Snap Seed drops :)

It helps to have a decent fighting familiar as well - this speeds up task quite a bit.

As for Bandos Plate & Legs - I use all the time on non-pray Slayer tasks & therefore consider it worth the money.

Ring - I use Zerker on all tasks except Abby Demons (although dont think the ROW helps that much !!)

Hope this helps

I would do lighthouse + cannon. (+ guthans/bunyip)..

As for the ring: I can confirm that (after pretty long testing) the ring of wealth works like this (for charms that is): increase of 10% in charms - or decrease of 5% of "no charms this time" - whatever means it's least increased. (so basically it means for anything having over 50% chance to drop a charm to decrease it's "no drops", and everything above this percentage to "increase the droprate".)

example:

monster A drops charms 75 out of 100 kills, "75 > 0.5*100" -> decrease in "no drop of 10%" -> 25*0.1 = 2.5, so now on average it would drop charms 77.5 out of 100 kills. (other calculation would've given that it would drop 75*1.1 = 82.5)

So if looking for purely charms, row MIGHT help you, especially on average monsters becoming actually good:

fire giants have an average drop rate of ~50%, now with the row it thus becomes: 1.1*50 = 55%. Some real improvement!

I have some suspicions that also the drop "rate" is altered towards more crimson/blue: however I haven't found conclusive proof for that and all differences are so minimal it's still between the error bounds!

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The Chaos Tunnel dags have much better drops and should definitely give you enough to break even on pots. Even if they didn't, you'd be losing a lot less than you would in the Lighthouse...cannonballs are more expensive than prayer potions.

As far as Bandos, the chestplate is much better than the tassets. The chestplate has a smaller drop in defense and a larger boost in strength, and it looks much cooler to boot. But the tassets have a smaller strength boost coupled with a larger defense drop, so they're much less worth it. If you're using 10% strength prayer, you're better off with Verac's skirt than the tassets. You should keep the chestplate, but you can go ahead and lose the tassets if you'd rather pocket the cash difference.

And for the ring, wealth is perfectly fine on monsters that actually have rare drops, but if you're fighting something like aberrant spectres or whatnot where your best drops are common stuff like herbs, you're better off with an Explorer's ring or berserker ring. (Well I guess spectres drop the mystic robes, but the Explorer's ring is still better there anyway.) If there's a task without a good rare drop where you aren't praying, then a zerker ring is worth wearing. Otherwise, there's no need for it.

I get extra defence with Barrows armour, and the extra money could be spent on a Berserker ring? That is one more point actually, is the RoW worth using over other rings such as a Zerker?

OK, let's start.

Lighthouse Dagannoths (Weakest of them all)

In this dungeon is the weakest dagannoths but it's multi. But if you get more than 2-3 of them attacking you the damage adds up.

They drop alot Gold and Green charms and rarest drop of em is Snapseed (But almost every other monster has Snap seed as possible drop).

Cannoning them is from my view stupid, because the Slayer exp is divided if other slayers attack the dagannoth your cannon/you are killing. Most of their drops are kinda stupid because it's items that's not something you would pick up. But they do drop raw lobsters that can be used with swallow scrolls (Bunyip). So that's a source of healing.

Method of killing:

Defensive armor with a healing source (Bunyip/Food)

Chaos Tunnels/Waterbirth (The True Ones)

Level 88 Dagannoth (Ranger dagannoths)

These are only ones at Chaos tunnels, but also is at Waterbirth as well.

They are very weak to melee. Very great spot is Chaos Tunnels. As through Waterbirth you have to go through gate (requires two players).

Useful drops:

Casket (Coins/Gems, Half keys!), Farseer/Archer/Warrior/Berserker helm. Fremenik shield, sword and helm (Non tradeable but great alching). Gives as much Crimson charms as Dust devils.

Other drops that's worth picking up for now depending on price: Cicular hide (24K), Spined boots (1.2k-2K),

Every trip i take to CT Dagannoths i earned over 100K Guaranteed!

Method:

Use prayer gear and kill ahead. Also a combat familiar

Level 90 Warrior Dagannoth - Waterbirth

These have high def as hell and hit 10+ very often. They do however drop usual drops. Such as law and nats, and fremrik items and dagannoth hides!

They also drop alot crimson, but they have higher defence than ranger dagannoths. They can be found once you enter waterbirth cave.

Ring of wealth or not?

Items that's rare is items that drops now and then. Example of rare items:

Mystic top/bottom/gloves/boots, Rune med helm Rune full helm, Rune 2h sword, Rune scimitar, Leaf-bladed sword, Rune dagger, Dragon boots

If i say the drop rate for a rare item i'd say between 1 in 125. Jagex has a messed up system for rate items and here's why.

Abyssal whip is from my view not a rare item as it drops after over 300+ kills. But however, Abyssal whip a 1.5M item drops in such drop rate...but a rune kite (45K+) drops 1 in 2000!!!!

Rune kite is a rare drop...just the drop rate Jagex has set for them is arguable wrong.

So i would say use Ring of wealth at CT Dagannoths. At Lighthouse use Warrior ring (+4 slash attack and def) or Berserker ring (+4 strength and crush defence bonus).

Tasks you can use Warrior/Berserker ring instead of ROW:

Bloodvelds:

Rune med helm is 12K and only good thing they drop, not worth using ROW

Kalphite soldiers:

They drop rune items very very rare. So i doubt ROW Will have a effect.

Dagannoth at Lighthouse (Not that i go there):

Snap seed is only rare thing and i dont know if it's right to use ROW there..

Baby Black Dragons (Black Dragon Task)

They drop only Baby bones

Suqahs:

They don't drop anything great...

Waterfiends:

They do not drop so many great rare items. Rune med, waterbattlestaff and blue d hide vambs, they are nothing that great.

Hellhounds:

Clue is only they drop

Greater demons:

Like i said, many items that is supposed to be rare is not considered rare to Jagex. There's quite alot few rare items Greaters drop and most of em have bad drop rate. The only item that drops mostly is rune full helm, med helm and rest is very rare.

For fast slayer exp kill dagannoth under the lighthouse, if you want charms then kill the ones in the chaos tunnels and yes the drops will more than pay for the p pots.

In terms of row vs zerker, I use zerker for all tasks except abby demons and mages (though I often use zerker vs demons because I'm lucky there). I used to always use a row but changing to a zerker it made no apparent difference in terms of drops but I finished my tasks more quickly.

Personally, I would get a torso + zerker ring and sell the bandos plate for +8 str bonus and 10m more cash rather than just +4 str.

Off-topic, does anyone know how effective chins/bursting is at the ct daganoths?

How is Lighthouse Dagannoths fast slayer exp when other slayers hit your kills and that can lead to slayer exp being divided..?

NO. CT Dagannoths are rangers, and i am pretty sure they have very high range def. If they don't then i am shocked.

And how is that better exp?

CT has very weak melee defence and you can use a familiar with special scrolls (Steel titan for me...)

Cannon+You+Other players - EXP being divided now and then...

So no they are not better exp, better points but so what? It's about EXP.

Points>Cash>Cannon>Cash used.

As a matter of fact i can do a Dagannoth task between 10-20mins at CT.

If you kill them at the lighthouse then you will get more slayer experience per hour. The bonus of the cannon cannot be beaten by using any familiar. Yes the exp is sometimes divided but people tend to move away from a cannon at the lighthouse. Don't get me wrong, I kill daganoth at the ct because I prefer charms to fast slay exp but tasks do definitely go faster at the lighthouse. Also bear in mind that combat familiars can also be used at the lighthouse...

A fast task does not mean good exp...

Yes you can use combat familiar at Lighthouse, i forgot that but i am pretty sure many players use healing ones.

But i'll say it again a fast task is not necessary fast EXP!

Also a cannon at Lighthouse - there is no moving away (It hits all monsters)

I know what you're saying, to rephrase, slaying daganoth at the lighthouse will give more exp per hour than slaying them in the chaos tunnels and this is what's important.

Personally, if I were slaying at the lighthouse then I would be there for the exp and so I would use a combat familiar rather than a healer.

I'm not sure what you mean about moving away at the lighthouse but I presume you mean that people don't move away from the cannon because the cannon attacks all the monsters. You can move away from a cannon at the lighthouse, it does have a limited range and if you stand on the other side of the cavern then the cannon shouldn't affect you (not that this is entirely relevant).

If you place a cannon at Lighthouse it takes over 70% of the monsters, and it's spot known to be crowded.

So that would lead to alot EXP being divided.

That's where being smart comes in. Half of the exp is given for doing the most damage and half of it is given for the kill. Let your cannon do the hard work and focus on getting the killing hit.

Either way, even though there are other people taking some of your kills, the lighthouse is still more exp/hour.

Well i will take your word on it. Because you have good points. But one thing i am sure of...

Lighthouse is not the best spot! for Cash,Exp and Charms all in 1!

That's CT! :)

But i might do Lighthouse for EXP

Agreed, I personally always use the chaos tunnels because it is always empty, I make decent cash with good crimson charm drops and means I get to use combat familiars which I find fun :)

I hope the creator of the thread appreciates all this advice :P
