Is Runescape worth it?

Sure Runescape is worth all the time and effort and the countless hours on end of gaming. Remember when Zezima was ranked #1 for what seemed like forever, well guess what........

Somebody put in the game time and threw him out of the #1 ranked player spot. Imagine being that player. The instant fame and respect gained from every person who has every played Runescape.

Now the only issue is maintaining that #1 player status.

You see Runescape like a lot of online games inspires people to great heights and if you stick with it great things can and will happen.

I guess what I'm trying to say is if you are dedicated to putting in the gaming hours Runescape is definitely worth it, but if you expect everything as soon as you start playing you will be frustrated.

I've been playing Runescape since year ONE, yes almost a decade now. I have taken breaks (some of them insanely long) but had I stuck with Runescape I would surely be the #1 ranked player now.

What I'm really saying is Runescape is like life outside of games, you get what you put into it and you just have to stick with it to be great!

You're right, you could have "shown dedication" and stuck with Runescape and have become the new Zezima- famous for showing a lack of self discipline and spending year after year on a repetitive computer game that requires zero skill. But i can apply your argument to almost everything. you could have practiced a musical instrument and become the new Mozart, you could have studied and become the new Einstein, you could have honed your painting skills and become the new Leonardo Da Vinci. And seriously, Zezima is not famous in a good way to the general public. I mean look at this; http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Zezima

You're an instigator, I hate instigators. -.-

Besides, who would care enough to think of themselves remotely like Zezima, whoever that person is in real life.

My uncle, who has introduced me to the game in 2004, has played in P2p for many years, in the mean time got married and has a fine social life. That is merely an example on my part that's close to home.

He doesn't play die hard 24/7, and neither do most other players, let alone the adult players among us. Next to that, the question isn't "What does a random Tom, Bleep or Idiot think about Zezima?" but the question is whether or not RuneScape is worth it.

The answer is simple:

Its purpose is to entertain.

It entertains.

Conclusion: yes.

I'm just wondering but did you know that i was replying to Deathmans post? Because you don't seem to have read what points i was addressing. I'm disagreeing with his point that Runescape is worth it because if you stick to it "great things will happen" and you can become famous like Zezima. I posted that link because i'm trying to show him that not everyone admires him so. Also, the rest of my " ramblings" were addressing his point where apparently Runescape is worth it because you become like Zezima, which is weird because there are far more constructive ways of spending your time and you can become Mozart or Einstein instead. Sure if you balance Runescape with your responsibilities its fine, if you enjoy it. Did i ever say otherwise? But if you play it to become the next Zezima, which is what Deathman wishes he did for the "instant fame and sucess", then thats a waste of time.

And simply because Runescape serves its purpose doesn't mean thats it worth it. Look at drugs

Yeah i sort of know what you're trying to say but thats a weird way of conveying your message...

Uhm, are you serious? Are you honestly trying to compare an online game with drugs?

It's very simple, like Jaffy1 already explained.. it's a game, for entertainment. If you like it, it's probably worth it (else you wouldn't be playing), and if you don't like it, you probably won't play. This is not even a debate. It's all a matter of a simple opinion.

I play this game, I like it. So yes, it IS worth it. And nobody is able to tell me otherwise. Other people's opinion do not apply for my case.

Every single person who has posted on this debate is absolutely correct; everyones views on this matter are also completely biased. It's vrtually impossible to find solid proof to sustain a valid and solid answer to the issues that have been raised. There are alot of factors involved: the effects that one is suffering cannot be simply judged and considered as a result of only one of the parts of that persons life (runescape in this case). There are usually further underlying factors and situations that cause these and runescape could simply be an effect of these in itself.

I wouldn't like to gives examles, these suffer from bias and often are unable to reflect accurately the entire picture of the situation.

That's the only contribution i would like to make on this.

Er what? Did you even fully read my post? For the last time, I do not think that if you find Runescape entertaining, and you don't play excessively, its a waste of time. My original post was a reply to Deathman, who seems to think that the fact that Zezima is really well known means that spending an unhealthy amount of time in front of the computer playing games is worth it. In other words, Runescape is worth it not because it is entertaining but because doing well in it makes you famous (o.O)

Btw, just because you like something doesn't necessarily mean it is worth it. I thought that was pretty obvious. And also my example of drugs was merely to point out that just because something serves its purpose doesn't mean its worth it, which i tried to explain using an example which would make my point seem a bit more obvious in case you misunderstood me. No offence but i'm pretty sure that if you didn't spend so much time on Runescape you wouldn't be so adamant in your decision that it was worth spending your time clicking away at a rock or a tree. Yeah sure there's no harm if you don't play excessively, but unfortunately many people do.

In my opinion Runescape is worth the time as long as you balance it out with other activities such as sports, outdoor activity, hanging with friends, and of course school. I have heard so many of my friends saying they were going to skip school to play runescape. I do not believe that is a great way to use your time.

However, if you go to school and do these other activities I believe runescape can benefit you greatly. Not only does Runescape help you build friendships on ones character and not their looks or how "popular" they are in school, but it is also a great way to spend your free time.

I noticed some points you missed for the pro's of Runescape. I'm just going to cover a few of my pro's of playing runescape.

~I my self have made a clan called Downfall and have successfully led it for a year+ now. I have met many great friends after creating this clan and have built such good friendships. Not only that but we are a clan war clan so I have used leadership skills in Runescape that help in real life. How you may ask? Well in real life I have a job where I work with younger children and sometimes getting people to listen to you on a game is as stubborn as the children I work with. All this practice on the game sure does help out with how to handle these children in real life.

Also, to piggyback on the last point. Runescape helps problem solving skills. You are working with so many different types of people that everyone has different problems that you end up talking to your friends about (if you are like me) and in turn you learn a little bit about yourself and who you are.

One way I look at Runescape is I have been playing for 3+ years and am a level 125 with pretty decent skills. I have put a lot of time into my account and to just quit and throw that all away seems like the biggest waste. I believe I will always find time to better myself on this game. I would much rather strive to be the best then to give it up now and have the past 3 years be worth nothing.

As a great Runescape player once said.. "Everyone below you is a noob and everyone higher than you is a no life." I am proud to be a no life ;)

Well, i would say its a positive discipline. it really helps manage time (for me, at least) . i find that i'm idling a lot less and much more productive when i center an evening around schoolwork AND runescape. Of course, i made a lot of friends in middle school through runescape and in highschool it actually helped me get "in" with some of the "popular" kids who also play runescape. Once they release runescape in spanish i'll gladly play it since i am taking both spanish and latin at school. Also, runescape has enhanced my vocabulary, and all the posting i've done on forums and such have greatly improved my mastery of the english language. i can tell you, that if i did not play runescape, i wouldn't have already been suggested for english honors/AP next year.

I'm also considering a career in computer science. I've made several (although nooby) runescape videos and i've gotten plenty of experience with the adobe suite and wmm. I've also practiced HTML coding while making runescape sites (for my eyes only). In addition, i reluctantly admit it, but over a year ago i also gained tons of computer knowledge from helping my friend code a private server and helping him code/debug a macro script he made. i never used the macroscript but he did.. got 99 str without getting blackmarks.

To the contrary, on a less personal note; if you play runescape to just kill time, then maybe it isnt worth your time. but if you have played it for a number of years and have actually thought to yourself "if it wasnt for runescape i wouldn't know this". then it is in no way a waste of your time.

If you like MMOs and it makes you happy, then of course its worth it. If you are content living your life this way, then, by all means, do what makes you happy. And for everyone else, if you've learned of a magical thing called moderation, then go ahead and play. You do in fact learn a few life lessons from Runescape from your day to day interactions with people. I play when I have time to kill or I'm bored, if a friend wants to hang, well then I would do that, but if I have nothing to do, then I play Runescape.

I don't like fun, it upsets me.-- Marilyn Manson

Runescape was a time waster for me. My grades sucked, I didn't hang out with my friends, but as I grew up I cut down on runescape and these things dissolved. Those issues were still around however.

I don't think runescape is worth it, but for the few who manage runescape, a social life, and school/work, go ahead and play.

Runescape's also affected my knowledge and school life to. I used to type by searching and pecking, but now I can do a reasonable 50-60 WPM. That really come in handy when you need to complete an assignment quickly after procrastinating, lol. No, Runescape did not make me a procrastinator, I am, was, and always will be one. And when we studied Medieval times in History, who do you think explained and drew what battleaxes, chainmail, etc looked like and what they were used for? Of course everyone else thought I was just smart, but my RS friends could not stop laughing.
