Zierro
And here it's 21. Deal with it. It's there to keep idiots from getting themselves killed. Frankly it should be illegal for everyone, but it just wasn't practical. No, you deal with me not dealing with it. Not all 18-year-old's are that stupid. And saying it should be illegal for everyone is probably just making people laugh at you so I don't know why you would say that... :| Unless maybe you were to back it up with that great logic of yours. Oh. My. God. I'm not saying that YOU can't handle it, but it's illegal because WAY TOO MANY OTHER PEOPLE CAN'T. Wrap your head around that. A prime example of the few ruining it for the many. Most people are stupid and irresponsible with alcohol and drugs, and because of that you can't use them. Tbh not a huge sacrifice. Once again, I'm not saying that nobody can handle it, I'm saying that too many people can't. Get back here so I can rub your butt.

Realistically, it is true. Drinking causes a lot of negatives in most people. It impairs your judgement, so you can end up hurting yourself or others. It can lead to death if too much is consumed. The negatives FAR outweigh any positives.
l0rd
The drinking age in the United States is not 21 because the government doesn't trust 18-20 year olds drinking. It is because people aged 21, in general, have far fewer friends that are under 18. The government considers the brain not fully developed until age 18, and if you allow drinking for 18 year olds, there would be a lot more inter-friend solicitation to minors. Dexek
[hide=]Happy Blippin' Birthday USA From Canada Oh why thank you : My town is having a parade today, throwing out candy, riding atv's, giant platforms being pulled by tractors ( Iowa) with people throwing water balloons/squirtguns at the people watching  Plus a raffle so... could win some free stuff  You get all that and I got to work on Canada's birthday... Ouch... Well it IS on a saturday so... a lot less people working today. But even if they are, the fireworks are tonight :P Yeah, but most of the people I know had it off. It's just because my company isn't Canadian, I guess. Canada Day is a statuatory holiday, it's illegal for you to work on it...[/hide] It is not illegal to work on it, or else I wouldn't have had to this year OR last. As long as we get a day in the same week, which I got Friday as opposed to Wednesday. I worked on it and I didn't get a different day off this week for it.. and I have a government job. I believe I just got paid extra. PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape
indy500fan
No national holiday in the US is illegal to work on, I am going to assume that it is the same for most other countries. Many have laws about wages on holidays though (time and a half usually). It's raining here, so I am not going to see fireworks anywhere. This was going to be the first time in probably a decade that I went somewhere to see a firework show. A little disappointed, also the houses around me are probably not going to have good shows either.
ThurinEthir
explosions in the sky Woah, lol, I felt a bit sick after the car-ride to my aunt's house (we went for lunch), so I decided to listen to some calming, instrumental music. Meaning Explosions in the Sky. I don't think I'm going to go see fireworks today. Don't care much for July 4, seeing as I'm not American. Now I love America and I love the 4th of July, but does anyone else think it's kinda a giant middle finger to the UK? Hell yes. At least to the British Empire. (is it still considered as that now?) I was watching the history channel for a brief moment months back, and they were talking about the White House. They said something about having a special show/event/spectacle when they have international guests. It's about our struggle in the American Revolution. The only country they don't show it to, is to the British for "disrespect." I was laughing my [wagon] off when I heard that. No offense to you current Brits. But if any of you had ancestors in the government back in 1776, screw them! \ "The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is." After 233 years of American independence, do you really think anybody in the UK even cares? ...and no Britain has no empire any more (thank god) He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)

archimage_a
Ahh. But they have this commonwealth...thingy. Can anyone explain? Ah yes, the money you don't pay us clearly goes well into your education system. The commonwealth is a bit like NATO. Its a bunch of volunteer countries which band together for ceremonial purposes, but you know if push came to shove everyone would move out the way. As for telling Britain to get stuffed: We were fighting you, France, Spain, the Dutch and We had been fighting the seven years war only 10 years before! All in all I think we did pretty darn well for an 'Island with more sheep than people'. Plus we have St. Georges day, which is kind of like your independance day: We celebrate being English but pretending to be part of a multi-cultural union....no wait it's exactly like your day. #-o http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. archimage_a
And yes well, Britain doesn't really have to celebrate being independant from anyone...does it? Europe...for about 5 more years. Hopefully 20, hopefully forever. How would you like to be part of a federal union where the individual states laws could be overthrown at a federal level? Hey, if you accepted us into Great Britain in the first place this wouldn't of happened. Dear concerned plebeians, Never fear, Britain has not forgotten you and we stand ready to reaccept your coffers into our pockets. I was frightfully shocked when I heard that New England was trying out that beastly Democracy thing. No, No, No is what I say. But that upstart Washington, well he just couldn't be helped. Some kind of beastly anarcist. I met him once, at a party, one of those charity events, you know so that I can feel better about how wretched my life is, and I said to him 'It is far better to be British than to be free. It is like Mummy and Daddy always used to say 'Would you prefer to be given money or have to work for it?' That is the natural order of things after all. Though in recent times life has been getting harder, we aristocrats used never to have to leave our country home, but now it seems like every other year the plebeians are acting up, not you of course my delightful young peasants. It is a gastly business putting them back in the fields, but really there is nothing else for it. Someone must take pity on their poor ignorant heads or they would probably forget how to eat. Though I wonder if you might tell me if my slaves are still waiting? I did leave them a bowl of water before I left but really I only expected to be back in Britain for a spot of brunch before sailing back, so I do hope that none of them have joined those terrible union forces that I have been told about. There's a gold shilling in it for you. I do hope that you rise up and kill those foolish anarcists before anything bad should happen. Yours Sincerely, A. Harakiri
July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence is signed. July 4, 2009, everyones too drunk to care. I ended up going to see the cities firework display(I still don't understand why we do fireworks, what do they represent, that we like exploding sparkly things? That in a dazzling explosion of sparkles we defeated the Brits and declared independence?). We took a bus because it's just so much easier than getting caught in the traffic of the town. Ends up we end up on the bus with the drunk guys in the back. They were hilarious. "Here, Here, Here, Give Me More Beer You Queer." I guess fourth of July is just another excuse to be drunk. Then again, in America any holiday is an excuse to get drunk.

I won't be paid extra, though. But if I worked Friday, I think my company pays double time.
