A Question about the Harry Potter Series (SPOILERS)

Featured Replies

Well, before I say this, I haven't read any of the books.

When Dumbledore mentions the horcruxes, and there are 7 of them. Does this stand that there is 7 horcruxes per movie/book? It might be that I'm just overthinking it, but I;m still very curious.

The Book/The Horcruxe

Sorcerors Stone- The Stone

Chamber of Secrets- Tom Riddle's Diary

Prisoner of Azkaban- ?

Goblet of Fire- The Trophy at the end of maze?

Order of the Phoenix- The Glass Ball

Half Blood Prince- The pocke[bleep]ch/thing with the note in it. (I dont know what to call it lol)

Am I just overthinkingit, or could this be correct? If you have read all the books, be free to tell me. I don't care about spoilers :D

Read them and find out!

But the answer is no

EDIT: And why is it called the Sorcerer's Stone in America, and not the Philosopher's Stone as it should be? :?

Either read the books and you will figure out or wait till the next movie.

Also movies don't explain things well.

I'll tell you them.

[hide=Spoilers]1) Riddle's Diary

2) His Snake

3) Slytherin's Locket/Amulet

4) Hufflepuff's cup

5) Ravenclaw's Diadem

6) The Ring belonging to his Uncle

7) Harry himself was a horcrux, part of Voldemort's Soul was attached to Harry's Soul when Voldemort tried to kill him, this was destroyed when harry "died".[/hide]

EDIT: Oh, and the reasoning behind there being 7 of them is that 7 is believed to be the most powerful magic number.

Because a philosopher has nothing to do with magic?

They changed the name because they thought Americans would not want to read a book with Philosopher in the title.

Hey :?

We just don't use that word over here...

[hide=SPOILERS - Voldemort's Horcruxes]There are actually 8. Voldemort intended to create 7, but in failing to kill Harry, part of his soul was transferred into him. The full list is...

1) Voldemort's body

2) Tom Riddle's Diary

3-5) The Representative Items that once belonged to Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw

6) Nagina (is that right?) - Voldemort's pet snake

7) The Ring

8) Harry

I suppose technically Voldemort isn't a Horcrux, but he there are 8 shards of his soul.

Here is the wiki article, with all the information needed.[/hide]

[hide=Spoilers]Sorry, but I want to correct you. He only made Horcruxes after significant kills, and a Horcrux is an item which contains part of your soul, so his body does not count.

He believed Harry to be the next Dark Lord, the one who would defeat him, therefore, what better way to make your last (seventh) Horcrux, than by killing the one destined to kill you? Unfortunately, he only knew half of it, which lead to his downfall.

Imagine a Horcrux as a way of storing part of your soul, incase you die, shard of the soul left in your body does therefore not count as a Horcrux.[/hide]

Sworddude, sorry but I want to correct YOU lol...

[hide=Spoiler - Quote from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows]Dumbledore says:

"You were the seventh Horcrux, Harry, the Horcrux he never meant to make. He had rendered his soul so unstable that it broke apart when he committed those acts of unspeakable evil, the murder of your parents, the attempted killing of a child."[/hide]

I think you should read all of the books, they're very good. To answer your question, no, in some books/years Horcruxes are never encountered, and in others multiple ones are found/destroyed.

[hide=SPOILERS]Voldemort intended to split his soul into seven, which is to create six horcruxes. He wanted his own body-soul to be part of the seven parts. However, he accidentally made seven horcruxes when he met young Harry, which is to split his soul into eight. Does that make sense?[/hide]

Yeah, you should definitely consider reading the books. There's so much detail and so many really clever bits linking all seven books. They're magnificent and hugely entertaining.

Philosopher doesn't have the same connotations for Americans as it does for Brits.

For those who don't know, philosopher has an old meaning referring to an alchemist.

I think this meaning is less uncommon in Britain than in America, so it was changed for American readers to understand it better.

See I didn't know that philosopher also used to mean alchemist. In America a philosopher is always a person that creates philosophies

I'm British and I didn't know it meant alchemist, I thought it was a philosophy-maker too D:

Sorcerer was a better name.

[hide=]Consider he made some horcruxes before the time periods of books, they shouldn't relate to any of the books really.[/hide]

Sorcerors Stone- The Stone

Chamber of Secrets- Tom Riddle's Diary

Prisoner of Azkaban- ?

Goblet of Fire- The Trophy at the end of maze?

Order of the Phoenix- The Glass Ball

Half Blood Prince- The pocke[bleep]ch/thing with the note in it. (I dont know what to call it lol)

HPwiki (not book order):

1. diary - 2nd

2. nagini the snake - 7th

3. Marvolo Gaunt's ring (resurrection stone) - 7th

4. locket - 6th book

5. The cup - 7th book

6. the diadem - 7th book

7. harry potter himself - 7th book

When ever Harry "died", the horcrux was destroyed and now Voldemort was vulnerable.

edit: the philosopher's stone is based on alchemy which was created by philosophers. The main difference between scientists and philosophers is that scientists do experiments, philosophers sit around like bums unless they have a real job :D. Since Alchemy was not a "real" science, it's most likely an insult lost in the midst of time. Alchemy "exists" today in the form of chemistry. No one turns lead into gold; they can with a particle/proton accelerator, but you spend more energy than it's worth.

menea_reuter.pnglinkresponsewb2.th.jpg

Just a reminder, (you really should read the books) the locket recovered at the end of the Half-Blood Prince was a fake. Someone beat Harry and Dumbledore to the cavern and already stole the locket, with the intention of destroying it.
