Hurricane Rita

Yes, I'm watching CNN and it has been upgraded to category 5 with 165 MPH winds, and the traffic out of Galveston looks horrendous atm. I really hope this turns to Mexico, well actually I don't cause then it could cause a disasster in a poorer country, so I'm hoping it goes down atleast to category 4 or we will have a major situation on our hands. With most of Red Cross and FEMA in Louisiana and Mississippi, I don't see how they are going to find people to help.

@Kielmccaul75: Haha, yeah, that's always good. At least our county can't blow up with not warning... unlike NZ, hehehe...

@my_pet_worm: Ever though about that much? NZ is one of the most volitile coutnries in the world... and no one seems to care about that much :P

It is a cat 5 storm, apparantly it has changed direction, or is changing direction.(yet to be verrified), I'm just about to shut all my computers down and pack them up, sides my laptop.

Why's there always hurricanes coming from the south like near carribean(sp?) sea,

The reason is becaue of very warm water, and cooler atmospheric conditions, also low barometric pressure is a cause of it.

In anycase, keep us in your prayers, it's been very stressful, I'm hopeing that this thing doesn't come this way, and I'm hopeing it loses power, it took so long to buy my house, its gona be hard loseing it. :(

My History teacher checked on the hurricane during class, and printed a view radar pictures of it and passed around and showed us. Its like, a category 4 and headed towards Corpus Cristi. But, theres a high pressure system in Texas and if it heads East and hits the hurricane, it will push it straight up right back into Louisiana! Some of our parishes down South are already evacuating, and alot of schools have been closed. Hope we make it!

I spent a week on Mustang Island in Corpus Cristi, Texas last summer. I loved it there, the ocean was warm, not salty and shivering like the California waters, beatiful place indeed. Good luck down there, though I highly doubt we're going to see another New Orleans halamaboo.

I'm living outside of Dallas, watching the advisories at the hurricane center of the NOAA (nhc.noaa.gov) and while they expect a little weakening today, it is also tracking further north and east than they expected.

so there's this thread in p2p general called "the most annoying things ppl do on runescape" i am tempted to post "ya wen im cybering with a girl and they log off for no reason"

Good luck to anyone affected by Rita, i hope the devastation is nowhere near the chaos in New Orleans, but if the storm keeps going up in category then it might be. Anyway, stay safe, don't take any risks.

It might hit new orleans again....... :

I think new orleans needs 6inches of rain, and there back to sqaure one.

So is this one supposed to be worse than Katrina?

I hope that it doesn't really hit any heavily populated area directly. I was in Galveston in August, and it really is a nice place. The island was ruined once from a hurricane before. I'm just hoping things don't turn out as bad as they could.

When I was in Galveston I went to Moody Gardens:

Besides obviously wishing the best for everyone who lives there, I hope those glass pyramids don't get destroyed. One's a huge aquarium, but the other is a rainforest sanctuary. I know in New Orleans all the fish at an aquarium died, which is a bummer (Edit - Turns out most animals in MG were evacuated).

Uh, I'm going way off topic about animals where the main concern is that people are going to be safe. Luckily, things are going much better evacuation wise in Galveston, so there should be MUCH less casualties.

well guys, spent the day boarding up our house and my dads office, we are getting a nearly direct hit i believe. Most of the people in our town are staying so i think we are all gonna ride it out together.

ill try to get on my laptop as much as possible during the hurricane, keep everyone posted, but i cant promise anything  I plan to hang out in my dads warehouse during most of the storm skateboarding, but if the windows start to blow out im gone
