Nadril
www.steampowered.com It's a PC Platform would be the best way to explain it. You buy games through steam and then play them through your steam account.
RayOxide
I dont plan on downloading games. If you hadn't heard, Aus internet is bad. And thats an understatement. Even with bad internet is it worth getting Steam for the 'account'? (+ Explain wtf you mean by playing games through steam?) I dont need a siggy no moar. Nadril
You play them through the steam client. And steam is all about downloading games, it's a digital download service.
Olbritishchap
You can add your friends on steam, and press shift+tab(or whatever button you want) to bring up the steam overlay thingy. You can go on a website through it, see your friends list/chats and stuff. Even if you don't download the game you have to be registered and signed in to steam to play all valve games(i think)

Lionheart_0
Tell him Norton is a virus and if you are paying for it, to never renew your subscription again. Get something free like AVG. As for You Ray, think of it this way: Go to this site: http://store.steampowered.com/ . Look through their games. Anything you want off there, you have to have steam for (Unless it is not a Valve game and can be bought in stores). Also, any game that is made by valve (I.E TF2, HL2, portal, ect ect...) must use steam even if you buy those valve games from a real store. So the pro tip is: Unless you want a Valve game, stop worrying about steam. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you! Danqazmlp
Usually Valve games will include Steam on their disk i think. So untill you buy a game that tells you to install Steam when your installing the game, i wouldn't worry too much about it. Want to be my friend? GordanFreeman
pro tip: Valve games are the best games Plus, you can get quite a few other good games through steam that Valve didn't make. Steam's pretty much the best thing that's happened to PC gaming in the past 5 years. Not to say that Steam hasn't been around for more than 5 years, though, more like 6 years. wormy
only thing, steam is your worst enemy if you are 56k. Mandatory 10 hr downloads to play a game offline(that is if the steam servers decide to kick you off before then so you have to restart the process), awesome! But if you are not on 56k than steam is quite nice.

Danqazmlp
There not so common nowdays, but they still do exist. When i first got HL2, i was on dial up, and i tell you, having to unlock the game was a pain in the rear end. Want to be my friend? Furah
Didn't think 56K modems actually existed these days. Thought it'd be something you could only find in a Smithsonian. :| Alot of places still have dial-up, nobody in my town (apart from me) has anything other than dial-up. The only thing I hate about Steam is the actual client itself. It needs to be more reliable and faster. Especially after updates, half the time I have to delete my .blob files and start Steam to get it to work. I now just leave it running 24/7 to try and fix this problem.
