September 10, 200916 yr I just noticed that in the off-topic forum that the following subforums are found: Subforums: Music, Movies & Television, Video Games & Consoles Why is there not a sports forum? I am certain that even though we are scapers that we still have an active social life, and sports is a big part of socialising :P So, I am wondering, is there a reason why it is not also present.. or has nobody just thought of it before. People replying please say if you support or don't support it (with reasons preferable) Overseer of Tip.it Clan Tournament 2010Click here to read the rules || Click here to sign up `Stu` on #clans (irc.swiftirc.net)
September 10, 200916 yr At the moment off topic tends to hold the majority of sports related threads, but I think that if there were to be a separate sports forum made then it would have enough activity to make it worthwhile. September 10, 200916 yr Interesting thing above me. And to be honest, there are only a few topics about sport (Football, American Football, and another one), and none of them are very active. I don't see how it would be worth it to make another sub-forum.

I don't see how it would be worth it to make another sub-forum. Well they can't get too specific without a dedicated sub-forum, so I think it has the effect of scaring people away to a degree. If they had a subforum, discussions could get a lot more specific. "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti

September 10, 200916 yr There wouldn't be enough activity judging from the number of threads in Off-Topic. Just make a topic there if you want to discuss anything sports related. September 11, 200916 yr I would love a sports forum! : Off-topic doesn't do it justice. A sports sub forum in Off-topic would work great. Suggest a poll for Tip.it - Here!
September 11, 200916 yr A sport forum could be cool because you can make threads for individual games/ series and or teams instead of having just one thread for a whole sport like soccer or american football but my only concern would be the amount of activity in said forum. Right now I only count two threads in Off-Topic 1st page that are sport related (College football and running). I'm really in-between on where I stand on the issue.. I'd love to seem more subforums added to off-topic to sort of rebrand it but with the software change and stuff I think the admins have more important matters to focus on.
September 11, 200916 yr i support as well. i've been active in sports since kindergarten rec soocer =D Darwin's Radio, stairway to stardom 2009
September 11, 200916 yr I support. If there's a sub-forum, the threads will come. ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
September 11, 200916 yr My thoughts on this. It will be a flurry of topics/posts at the start but it would most likely quickly slow down. The boards would not be popular enough for topics on individual games/teams etc. What will most likely happen is that there'd be a thread for each sport/competition etc. which would get all the traffic, which is what I believe to be the case in the majority of cases already in off-topic. Having a sub-forum just for those topics in my opinion isn't needed. On top of that, due to most sports having seasons and thus there'd be a period where there's going to be next to no posts for weeks at a time due to sports being out of season.

I don't think it'd be active, and they all fit into OT perfectly well. There's simply no need to split up OT more than it is in its current state. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)RIP Michaelangelopolous
September 11, 200916 yr I have to say its the same as the FunOrb forum for me. There is no reason not to put it up, unless it costs money. You can just tear it down if it doesnt work in a certain time. I dont need a siggy no moar.

It appears that there are only 35 separate posts for the MechScape forums. I know there are a lot of views, but... I don't know. I chalk it up to elitism... September 12, 200916 yr I'll give it a yes. With sports there are many different teams, tournaments, etc. Plus people can ask for help with their own sports-related issues. A problem could be activity taken away from the Off-Topic forum.

I love sports as much as the next guy, but I don't think its worth having another forum dedicated to sports. It seems kinda unnecessary.
September 12, 200916 yr No. For the simple reason of the lack of sports specific topics on OT at the moment. As others have said, the forum will cause people to create new threads right away, but it will die down to nothing. Threads always start around the start of a season, or if there is a big trade within a league, and not to mention super bowl. But those times are pretty much the only prime time for sport topics which are only every few months. The media forum and Video game forums were created because there has and always will be a large amount of threads pertaining to those categories. Sports is simply not as prevalent (even though I do know many users are interested in sports). Right now we should keep OT the way it is, else risk loosing the main OT board. Plus, why even take it down? There's nothing new and of vast importance on MechScape...it could be merged with general discussion and probably get more exposure, but why aren't you deleting that subforum? It's okay...we know the answer... You can just tear it down if it doesnt work in a certain time. We can do a lot because it costs no extra money. Many subforums make the forums looks messy / user unfriendly. Boards which are hard to navigate trough don't appeal to new users. Many boards with little activity looks bad, a lot worse than less boards with high activity. Sure, se can do much because it doesn't cost extra, but there's a good reason why we don't do it. I don't support it. "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do"[Currently playing: K1ll L1f3]

September 13, 200916 yr Seems like Mods say no and everyone else says yes; what does that say? Users say 'yes' on many things, simply because most of them don't know everything about the forums (can't blame them) and do not think further then 'That would be fun, yes'. On top of that, I hust had a look at Off-Topic and on the first page, there were two sports topics. So I do not see the need for a seperate sports forum.
