Member-screen for Free Players

Ever wanted to get rid of the annoying advertisement bar?

Ever wanted to see RuneScape the way Members see it?

I found a simple solution last night!

If you're using Internet Explorter (v. 7 or higher) there should be a zoom button on the bottom-right size of your Internet Explorer's screen.

Login to RuneScape, then: locate the small, black, down-pointing arrow next to the zoom button marked with 100%. Click the arrow, and then click on "Custom", then make the 100% into 120%, and clikc "ok".

Super, isn't it?!!

Here's a screenshot:

I'm not diabling them, am I?

I'm just choosing not to look at them :)

No 3rd party softwares are being used, nothing illegal in selecting your own zoom level, is there?

IF say a person has a mini-laptop with a 13 inch screen (or smaller), given the display size, they wouldn't see the ad ANYWAY, since they'll have to scroll down on the page to be able to see their RuneScape playing area. Am I right or am I right?

Not sure, as I'm a member and don't see it regardless!

I'd just like to point out anyone using IE is pretty fail.

IE has a ton of huge security flaws that all other major browsers (opera, safari, firefox) have addressed months - years ago

Sorry AmblerIII, I wouldn't know.

I've never reallyed used a MAC before.

But doesn't MAC use FireFox for surfing the net?

I imagine there should be a zoom option on FireFOx like there is one on IE since IE ueuslly mimics FireFox's good upgrades.

I imagine that this zoom thing is one of those many mimiced upgrades.

You /could/ simplly lower your screen's resolution temporarily to something like 1024x768 or whatever works for you, but i imagine that would do more harm than good. Know what i mean?

Internet Explorer is third party software and even hiding the ad without actually blocking it is against rules.

i'm not hiding the ads. i'm just looking at a different part of the same page. they're still there. unhidden. just not visible in the current viewing area.

Old trick actually... I used to do it all the time with firefox :) . But I kinda fixed the problem... Took membership.

not to be that person but no one even follows / enforces no ad blocking rules i understand it but really

you can also just press f11 in firefox to go full screen you can even hide the top bar so its full screen in f2p

If you use the normal (not stretched or fullscreen) version of RS and set your display to 800x600, the applet fills up your screen and you should see around the bottom ~10px of the ad. It actually seems to fit perfectly with an 800x600 resolution.

Is this possible with Firefox? Or the Runescape Client?

I don't use Internet Explorer.

(My screen resolution is 1400x900 btw.)

I'm sure it is, all he's doing is changing the zoom level, and every browser that actually calls itself a browser has zoom.

Is having your runescape screen, what, 100 pixels lower, really a problem?

You must not deliberately block or hide the adverts which appear above the free version of our game. If you have advert blocking software please prevent it from blocking adverts on our website. The adverts above the free game are what enable us to keep it free, after all!

It's against the rules anyway.

quit

I don't really see why this would be a problem.

The ads are there to help raise revenue. If you use a method to block them all together they get no money. You use this method and you're still technically viewing the ad but it's just not on the visible screen, they still get their money. It's really no different than if a site has an ad at the top of the page and you scroll down.

It's simple really... it's for the esthetics. It just looks better this way.

Every one of us who has played the game already knows all the ads by heart. I'd stopped playing for 2 years, and i can still remember the ads of 2006.

I don't think there's any real need to KEEP SEEING the same ads for hours to no end. Once is enough.

And with zoom level of 120%, your RuneScape playing area will look better!

Sorry guys, but hiding the ads through any means is against Jagex rules, and therefore against Tip.It Forum rules to discuss doing.

The advertisements only intrude on gameplay a tiny bit, and even if you think they do, they're a part of funding the free to play game.
