Just bought Far Cry 2. I've heard good things about it, and it has a map editor. Might be enjoyable.

Pretty legitimate criticism actually. I think he means that theres no cross game chat, because I'm pretty sure theres a private chat function somewhere.

If anything that feature should be implemented with Plus, anyway.

Not that I care about private chat since I don't partake of that aspect of video games (only play with people I am sitting next to), but it is a pretty big thing that is not too hard to implement that is missing, so it is legitimate criticism.

from the ps3 owners here (which is obviously the wrong people to base facts on), i figured ps3 didn't have GROUP chat but at least had private chat option (which turned out to be a different form of private chat). that really took me by surprise.

 

also, i never even heard of PSN plus til now. so basically the "free" PSN will be the basic (shafted?) version of PS3's online? that pretty much means the free PSN wont get any more updates than what it has now. wow that kinda sucks.

Nah the free PSN will be fine, PS plus basically just gives you discounts and free stuff every month or so. Its purely optional and isn't going to replace free PSN at all.

So will dedicated servers be for all platforms or just PC? I dont really know too much about the topic.

Intended for Black Ops thread? I seriously doubt there'll be dedicated servers on the consoles. If they improve the host migration to work properly though it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I never used private chat when playing with friends on Live because I generally was playing with them already. I have very few friends with a PS3, let alone a headset, so I've never really cared about chatting. I just play games with them.

 

I bought Unreal Tournament 3. It's actually pretty fun. I kick ass at it which makes it even better. After playing hundreds of hours of UT and UT2004 I'm glad I can beat everyone I play against my first time online, before even hitting up single player. Seriously, console UT players are lightweights apparently. Then again, it's been tested that PC gamers are better at online shooters than console gamers. I can't remember where I read about the test. The best console gamers against nooby PC gamers and PC gamers win. Adding to that, UT has such basic map sets. Most of the maps are the same format as a different looking map in a previous game. Take the first map for instance. Exact same format as previous two UT games, just with different stuff decorating it. Anybody with the game want to play tell me. I'm still playing the campaign, but I'll be trolling online pretty soon.

You should try and pick up UT3 on PC ratchet, if yours can handle it. The only real issue is that the community is really small :(.

 

However it got some pretty good updates (UT3 Black) that has done well. Honestly I'd love to see something like a UT2011 where it's a much improved version of UT3.

Sony have said frequently that the free service wouldn't be compromised due to the release of Plus.

i meant that the free service will never get any "good" updates. eg if they ever implement private chat or group chat, it's going premium

My PC can't handle it. And I like smaller communities generally. Unreal Tournament still has 1100 players at a time usually, so it's a much tighter community. UT3 on PS3 is fun most definitely, I find vehicles much more bearable than in UT04. I hate warfare mode and wish it wouldn't be the only game the campaign wants you to play. I also wish the modding community on PS3 was bigger. If they had added modding creation tools to the actual game, it might have more players...Otherwise it's kinda boring playing the same maps over and over.

 

The makers of UT3 have said they are putting a sequel on hold til' the future and focusing on newer IP's and such. They say that UT3 has such a big modding community that the game should stay fresh for years to come. Sadly, I ain't seeing it on console and the PS3 community is very small. I think it's way smaller than the original games community.

I haven't seen PS+ getting any major updates over the free guys. PS+ at the moment nets you discounts on games and free games. Otherwise, they haven't implemented major updates. If an update like private chat is implemented, it will be a universal release.

I doubt they'd be that stupid... The PS3 is still pretty much impossible to pirate. Blu-Ray games are huge. Can't say the same for the 360 or Wii though. Hell, you only need an SD card to play downloaded Wii games. As for the 360, the process is a bit more excessive...

I honestly doubt that. Sony has been pretty good about services and keeping it free for everyone. PSN Plus is just for the psn store and a few dumb things like automatic update. If they ever do release a chat system like Xbox it will most likely be free. If PSN plus does get any "better" updates. They may just be early. Also i havent seen a single one of my friends have psn plus. I have 100+ people on my list too.

If they do release party chat they won't make it PS Plus only, because then they will be able to legitimately say "hey PSN is about as good as XBL and its free", which would be a massive marketing boon. And hardly anyone has PS Plus anyway so there'd be nobody to chat to.

Same, the wait has definitely been worth it with the amount of content. 16 player races around the Nurburgring at night is going to be mad fun.
