i_love_burritos
Thats such a stupid thing to say.. I've got a pair of £25 Sony in-ear headphones and they work perfectly. I've had them for the past 6 months. I would agree to that statement if my $3 Sony pairs didn't last me seven months. :-P 6 months ... 3 months ?! What the hell are you guys smoking. I've only had to buy 2 pairs of headphones. The true test comes with usage and time.
deathdrow
I've had 3 skullcandies, and the only way I've broke them has been leaving them in a pocket and going through the wash, which happened to all 3  The apple ones seem to go out fast.I had a pair of apple headphones that died within an hour of my having owned them. mcneilp
I've had the same problem before as well. I noticed with me, when i used Skull candy head phones with the upright jack (the bit that goes into your Mp3), they hardly lasted anytime. When i bought a set of Phillips head phones with a jack at an angle [hide=(this)][/hide]they lasted much longer. Reckon this was cause of the way my iPod sits in my pocket and with me walking about and sitting down/standing up at work quite a lot, it loosened the wires a bit. Might be worth a shot getting a set with an angled jack instead of a straight one. funny you should say that cuz I do have an extension cord that I don't usually use but it has an angled jack, do you think I should try using that? Here's exact pic of it I'd give it a go, it definately helped with me. Saru Inc
Try buying 2 at a time. It's complete superstition but still -- I bought two, and one pair lasted for 5 months. As soon as that one broke, the other one broke like 3 days later. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. jasignhagj
Ive only ever had 1 pair, the ones that came with my iPod (almost 2 years old). And i put them through hell. Although the left one keeps coming undone from the casing, so i may need new ones soon... However, if you need new apple ones, look around for old ipod shuffels. my friend found one for $25, while the apple earbuds are $40 alone. I think he just smashed the ipod after. Levon_
I really think you're lieing about what headphones you're using. Who's dumb enough to keep buying the SAME PAIR OF 300$ HEADPHONES 5 TIMES IN 3 MONTHS! Try not to strech the wire near the jack so much, and if you haven't already been using an angled jack that could work. I see the same thinks happening to my headphones, I know what you mean about the rotating thing it gets annoying at times. But really, if you're dumb enough to spend $500+ per month on headphones I dont think you should be anywhere near an MP3 player ;) It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. I had a generic $5 pair that I picked up years ago, around the early to mid 90's I believe, and i didn't need to replace them til 2 years ago when my room mate stepped on them. I just buy 10$ crappy ones, they last for usually a year or so unless I lose them. Then if I have my bag with me I have a nice pair of Bose over-ear headphones. Ouchy
Skullcandy's are fine Head Phones. My current Full Metal Jackets are still pumping out solid sound after nearly 1 year. To OP: If they are breaking the same way, that would suggest that: A) You aren't treating them properlyB) Could be a head Phone ProblemC) Sony sucks. The Dark Lord
Just spend $10 on some Phillips over-ear earbuds. They don't easily fall out because they have more support on your ear, and they generally last a while. They're also expendable. evil_mumm_ra
More specifics would help. I'm pretty sure you're talking about earbuds, right? What brand of earbuds? Edit: Oh, I see, Sony. What specific kind though? Same thing also happened w/my first pair of headphones (apple ones that come w/ipod) 1. I don't blast them, I put them on Max when I'm mowing the law, but that's really not very loud considering the limits the ipod puts on it.2. They are very expensive Headphones - MDR-EX700s3. BlueLancer
I've now gone through 5 sets of headphones in probably the past 3 months and they all break the same way. First one of the headphones suddenly doesn't work unless I position it a certain way in the jack. So then I position it that way so I can listen to it, and then it gets harder and harder to do and finally the other one goes out and absolutely no noise comes out no matter how i position it. I put my headphones in my pocket w/out being plugged into Ipod or wrapped around it (I wrapped around for the first 2 pairs and then the other 3 I tried not doing that and they lasted a bit longer). All of headphones were good ones - Sony and they sound great at first. So is it something I'm doing to the headphones, something wrong with my Ipod or just unluckyness? any help appreciated EDIT: btw, this pair sometimes get's better for a day or two and I don't need to move cord around or anything and then it goes back, so idk if that's helpful or not. O and I also have Ipod in my pocket while I lift weights and sometimes it get's tight in my pockets, do you think that could be a reason for it? Sounds so familiar. :D Found a simple solution... Stopped buying cheap stuff like $5 sony headphones. Money equals quality in this issue. Spent $60 on some earbuds, still using them (Sennheiser) worked great for 2+ years and no degradation whatsoever, no need to mess with the wires, etc
Sbrideau
I never bought expensive headphones yet one of them pairs worked for over 4 years. Your statement of "money equals quality" is invalid.
blakdragon39
1) Don't blast the music on the highest setting as much2) Buy more expensive headphones3) When removing your headphones from your ears (if they"re earbuds) remove them by the actual earbud, not the wire. Not always true. I've had this problem with so many pairs of headphones.. and finally I quit trying to buy good quality ones and bought the cheapest ones I could find. They've worked ever since. BlueLancer
I never bought expensive headphones yet one of them pairs worked for over 4 years. Your statement of "money equals quality" is invalid. Don't see how it can be invalid only based on a single personal experience, statistically more expensive headphones (especially coiled cable) are percieved as much superior when comparing to cheaper ones. For example Pioneer ON headphones get about 100% approval rating and 5/5 on most sites, while costing roughly $100, and lower-end headphones from Sennheiser (of which I own a couple of products) consistently get horrible 1/5 reviews from most users due to poor construct and lack of suitability for anything else than light use, while only costing a fraction of the higher end models. Of course it's possible you just ran into an exceptionally well-manufactured patch of hp's, and they will never break, or will not wear due to only light gaming use/some mp3's. But a great number of people experience difficulties especially with lower-end models. There was a thread just like this one on bit-tech last year. http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=151282
