25-Nov-2009 - AoG - Single-Player Campaign

Featured Replies

A glorious day for Zamorak! Today we bring you an update weve been talking about for quite some time; the first single-player campaign for Armies of Gielinor is now available. Lead the Zamorakian horde after the god returns to Runescape, and battle the forces of Saradomin and other armies in order to conquer Hallowvale.

The update features a map-driven, dynamic campaign, allowing you to complete it in any number of ways. Each mission rewards you with a different upgrade, providing trinkets, additional unit types to summon, or a mana boost that you can use in other battles.

This campaign is available to free players and members alike, and there are six Achievements for you to collect. Each mission can be played multiple times even if already completed, allowing you to perfect your skills and get a position in the Highscore tables! By the way, your progress in an ongoing mission is saved automatically, even if you log out.

So head on over to Armies of Gielinor and ready your army for battle. Hallowvale will burn!

Can't wait for the other campaigns.

+ It's f2p! yay.

Well, we do get hints about possible future areas, but it's nice to have an interactive way to learn our history.

And of course, the AI is smart enough to take out necromancers first, ah well.

I should try this out. I can't wait to see how it sizes up to the current champion of this genre.

Only real complaint is that damned owl and the ai.

That owl is real pain through once you get the ranger they're easy kills and the AI is pretty smart it can be hard to beat through it can be predictable.

Also I got the Gargoyle.

Also I got the Gargoyle.

Tell me your secrets! I only tried once, and it's was without having a mage =\

You don't need the mage through its suggested through if you don't use it you better keep VBBK at well health its your only other way of taking out a Greater Demon good enough.

Well heres the Units you should use:

Black Knight,

Zamorak Ranger and Mage (Suggested),

Hellhound (Suggested for sitting on portals)

Suggested Items:

SoZ

VB

FS 1 and 2

That owl is broken. I now always have a clear advantage in the beginning until the AI summons 9001 owls. In the last game I literally was swarmed with them and I couldn't even touch them...

Try to get the ranger first... it can be done with your starting units.

But if you didn't get the ranger like me remember.

You can capture the portal to win.

In about 3 missions the ai stopped attacking my barbarians and i just took their unguarded portal.

I have to say. I HATE multiplayer but i <3 Single player

Lovin' the campaign here too, and I love the owls, seeing that my rangers pick them off easily ;) .

I was started using Necromancers more. Free units!

Btw: sea slugs scare me.

The sea slug mission is a piece of cake when you get black knights.

Tried the slayer tower mission and even though none of the hellhounds attacked i still succumbed to a greater demon rush.

In the scenario where you first need to fight a leader (in the Western Swamps), does anyone else find it odd that the leader never fights back?

I'm excited

I'm having the same troubles as you, except at Phasmatys, which was an easy win.

Basically, focus on the northern portal after you've gotten the south one. Wait until Slugs and Saradomin have exchanged fire ONCE with their Barbarians at the North Portal, then send your Necromancer + 4 skeletons (you should be able to regenerate one before this happens because of the early Barbarian KO) with your Chiefian and take it over. You should then send your Werewolf and a normal barbarian to capture the two southern villages (or do this at the same time). You should be successful, and you'd be surprised at how much this will divert the Slug's attention. While he wastes time in those souther skirmishes, build up near your northern portal.

Then just sweep southward.

If all fails you can just tank. Build up Mana advantage and unit advantage and slowly advance forward.(works on some maps. not all)

[hide=Hints, tips, tricks, spoilers]

Port phasmatys is easy with black knights. I just rushed all units to the north-east portal and left the southern houses to be there. Captured the two houses near the north portal and the tower and the house on the east side of the map. Then just rushed to their portal.

Where you get mages: I put a barbarian lurking through the forest and captured the tower and the house north-east of the mages' portal. Remember to use your spells. (fire of rain on the first paladins/birds that come your way, gives you some time to capture the tower southwest of your portal)

Gargoyles is easy with mages. Keep an eye on how far the hellhounds can run; you don't want to leave your barbarians to be killed by them. Use the vampyric blood on a black knight and spam mages to kill the gargoyles and greaters.

Seaside mages + hellhounds is easy with gargoyles: the hellhounds have no rangers and the seaside mages are already defeated by the hellhounds when you get there to finish things off.

In Morton you want to summon 3 or four barbarians in the beginning. And try not to get your hellhounds killed.

Use the bridger-spell in Crossing the salve.

Where you get greaters: You have to capture the southern portal before the whiteknight gets to you. Summon a ranger to kill the birds and use all the spells you need to get the portal (I used fire rain to weaken the monk and the two paladins, vampyric blood on a barbarian chieftain to kill one of them and then distracted the whiteknight to attack my ranger instead of the barbarian capturing the portal.)

After you have the portal just spam mages and rangers to kill the annoying flying things and push forward; at some point you'll have enough rangers to push to the next portal and it should be simple after that.

Mages and rangers are more effective against the flying lvl 40's than gargoyles.

And some random hints:

You are more likely to win battles if you fight closer to your portal. It isn't always wise to rush to fight straight ahead, but to wait that the enemy gets closer. You get new troops to the fight faster and can summon slugs to finish off the enemies that get too close to your portal.

Use necromancers to get skeletons AFTER you've won the battle: after there are no longer enemies around to level up on your necromancer.

Use skeletons to block the path of your enemies: especially protect a house-capturing barbarian by placing skeletons to his sides.

[/hide]

Attack first. and use a barbarian as a distraction. the ai likes to kill barbarians at any cost.

with two werewolves you can take one down losing maybe one of the wolves.

And would the lion be attacking the wolves or targetting the Barbarian?

The barbarian. Thats how i did it.

Couldn't Saradomin just summon more lions though?
