So I think I'm bi-polar

Recently, like since around september, I've been experiencing practically random episodes of serious depression. Stuff like crying at night thinking "just kill me". It is usually triggered by small things that only make a big difference at the time they are happening, but it escalates into a full blown depression... It usually only lasts a few days but I hold it off as much as I can whenever I'm around people. I can't see myself in real life so I don't know if I act differently or not. I try to think myself out of it and works... Temporarily... I usually break down after talking myself out of it very quickly. I listen to lots of music that could be considered emo(tional) and this works for a while, but ends in a smaller break down. The think that seems to fix me the most is going to school and being with my friends and realizing it's not that bad. But eventually I have some sort of break down.

I couldsider myself emo(tional), I'm very sensitive think about stuff, etc. But I do not partake in the "emo" scene. I am not suicidal (yet) I really could never go through with it the dying moments would be worse than what I was leaving. Or at least that's how I put it.

I'm just trying to get this out, maybe see what you guys think. I'm not taking any meds and I don't want to see a counsler or anything. Just want some... Opinions.

It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.

disregard good advice because the giver is a douche

I blame western societies' extreme individualism.

In communities/ countries where people are more socially engaged, "depressions" like these don't happen so much as here. You just can't be left alone with your thoughts for too long before someone notices that something is wrong. Here it happens all the time.

Suggestions: hitchhike to asia, become an addict, fall in love with something/body, become an artist, play more runescape, or talk with your closest friend or a family member.

Go see a doctor.

Yeah, a psychological evaluation on a Runescape forum is not such a good idea.

Agreed.

All this self-diagnosis is getting annoying. Just see a professional and if you are actually bipolar, then make a topic about it.

Ha, I was just reading Time Magazine and right in the front is a six-page ad for some drug about bipolar depression. There's a full-page picture of a sad-looking woman with the caption, "Bipolar depression doesn't just affect you. IT CAN CONSUME YOU." Then it literally goes on for FIVE PAGES of fine print telling you that it "may induce orthostatic hypotension associated with dizziness, techycardia, and in some patients, syncope, especially during the initial dose-titration period, probably reflecting its α1-adrenergic antagonist properties."

I'm not exaggerating. That's a direct quote.

By the way, you know you have a serious mental problem when you think you have a serious mental problem and you not only ask the internets for advice, but go to a video game fansite to do it. Just sayin'.

congratulations! i'm clinically depressed and probably currently farther over the edge than i ever have been before, i know these things because i've talked to professionals about them, you should do the same even though i don't believe that bi-polar is really as serious of a thing as people say. i've known bi polar people, they just all seemed a bit eccentric, lol. go talk to a professional THEN make a post about whatever mental disorders you have.

Bipolar people go through episodes of highs and lows. Couldn't it just be that you're missing the episodes?

i suppose it's possible even though i lived with someone who was "bi-polar" for a few months. depends what the highs are and lows are too, and how you classify it, i know i have highs and lows, everyone has highs and lows.

*Is bi-polar* (surprise >.>)

It [bleep]s me up pretty well... I experience really high highs and really low lows... The lows usually out weigh the highs and are a lot longer >.> Teh psychiatrist person said something about me being asleep when I'm happy >.> I was in 2nd grade when I was diagnosed <.<

The next time you're depressed, just think. "At least I'm not abc" >.>

Are you positive they were bipolar? Either they weren't or they were just good at hiding how they really felt.

As for the highs and lows, obviously everyone has them, but they're just far more severe in bipolar people.

Hormones have a helluva effect, as do chemical imbalances in the brain.

Manic-depression is quite common in my family, although I do not suffer from it.From person experience, I'd say just learn to live with it, unless you feel earnestly suicidal.

Although I think, presuming you are of the age, what you are experiencing might just be common mood swings caused by hormones.

Watch out for psychiatrists, don't make them think you have manic-depression, you have to really decide something like this for yourself--only you know how you feel. Read up on it, learn the symptoms and don't make any quick judgments.

I really hate to say this, but I'm going to ask you to go see a doctor. Doctors will keep it completely confidential, so don't worry about anything. If you need a ride, just tell your parents that you need a checkup, and get an appointment. No need to tell them until you are completely sure and ready. If you are, then don't worry about it because many people suffer from the disorder. You aren't alone in the world. The reason why I'm asking you to go see a doctor is because you quite frankly both could and could not have it because it could just be a personality trait. Only trained members in that field will be able to properly evaluate your condition.

I wish the best for you, and remember nothing is as bad as it seems.

OP, I'm right there with you. Not just in the self diagnosis (which isn't correct) but with the behavior. There have been a million instances where I've considered myself bi-polar due to my extreme highs and lows. The thing is, bi-polar disorder doesn't swing frequently, it's MONTHS of one or the other. You're just moody and hormonal, likely from puberty. I'm in the same boat, and I agree. It sucks.

Music helps me for a small amount of time, but eventually I just get frustrated or over emotional. Friends are easily the best medicine. I'm lucky enough to have friends that I can just randomly call up and hang out with to cheer me up. Unfortunatly, most if not all of them will disappear from my life post-college. Not a fun prdicament.

I think what you and I both need is something concrete to live for. Something that makes us feel proud and respected. Agree?

Sorry for uber spam... Well, this one isn't :P NOTHING is confidential. NOTHING. I've been forced to go to psychiatrists up until about two years ago. The first thing they tell you is that they won't tell anybody anything you say unless they feel that you are a threat to yourself, anybody else, or they feel it is necessary. Apparently not believing in Santa is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to tell your parents. Just saying... "confidentiality" doesn't mean [cabbage] >.>

Possibly just normal teen/young adult emotions. I am 18, but I've felt times where I really thought "what's the point?" including times of serious depression. Also, I have felt elated for no reason at times.

I don't see why so many people are saying that I see a doctor. I don't need someone to tell me things I've already thought off. And I'm not taking no [bleep]ing meds. It seems to me atm that I have everything going fine, I can't thing of anything to worry about except being tired in the morning.

I don't get how that is bi-polar. It sounds like chronic depression to me. Bi-polar means you switch from two opposite emotions frequently. That being said, isn't everyone bi-polar to a degree?
