The Role of a Warlord

Recommended Posts

First of all, I'd like to express that this is not a topic of flaming to any clan in any way, shape or form, moderators feel free to remove anything if you think anything is offensive.

Ok, so in most clans, the Leaders will set special positions known as Warlords, who can have different roles to play in your clan depending on the leader's opinion of what they should be doing. For example, in a Top-5/10 clan, a Warlord can probably call a mandatory mass-up and have a lot of internal power, whereas in smaller CWA clans, the Warlord will just have the responsibility of leading the war and very little power after that, but I wanted to hear some more opinions as what you may think a Warlord is actually meant to do within the clan and has there been any changes traditionally? Like was it the same in 2005 as it is now? I'll give a few examples:

In my clan, True Ownage, we look for Warlords to be able to accept wars, post them up, help out with anything to do with the war, for example; leading, helping with tactics, and then post up on our forums of what went right/wrong, but they are given less power than the Leaders/Co Leader and equal power with our High-Council.

So thinking about the above examples, I ask the following questions:

Does your clan have a Warlord?

What is the role of the Warlord?

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

This topic will be allowed for now assuming everyone can remain civil and avoid using this as a way to flame each other.

Personally, I think warlords should have complete power over anything related to wars/PKing. They're chosen because they're qualified and they can't to do their job right if the leadership is always "backseat leading." Though in WG the warlord is one of the council so you could say he has more power or less depending on the situation. We have a second in command (2IC) who is also council but it's not the warlord so in general matters he would have less power than in wilderness related matters.

Does your clan have a Warlord?

Yep, several.

What is the role of the Warlord?

To organize wars and to call within wars/PKRIs.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

Not at all. Head Warlords have a lot more power than Warlords, but still are not as powerful as High Council members. However, their powers are separated into different areas of expertise. For example, Council and High Council members can strike or punish clan members while Warlords cannot. While Warlords can lead wars/PKRIs and create them.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

I think their power may have dwindled a bit.

Does your clan have a Warlord?

No, we don't have a rank called "warlord" but we have something similar.

What is the role of the Warlord?

I think warlords are just a few steps above a regular member unless a war or a pk is going on. Then they are one of the main people in charge. The other things like finding and posting wars are just part of the job title.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

I personally don't think they are near close to being powerful as council. They are powerful just not in the same ways council are.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

It's changed a little but for the most part I think its stayed the same.

My clan does not have a warlord but having broken off from a previous clan the old clan (i will not name and shame ok i might shame a litlle)(i broke off because the became 0 honour)a warlord SHOULD be classed as high council because it has authority over an entire part of sed clan (PKing/warring) also to organise any wars or PKing events a warlord should be a capable leader and a very good PKer

Yes two

What is the role of the Warlord?

Accept and Decline fights, get fighst for the clan, and lead the clan to victory in those fights. The Warlord should be the main fall in leader

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

The Warlord should be the second most powerful individual in the clan, behind the leaders. Without the warlords your [bleep]ed at your fights.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

Now that we've moved into a new era of clanning a warlord MUST have a mic and must be a good caller for the clan to succeed

Does your clan have a Warlord?

No, we have Generals which is very similar.

What is the role of the Warlord?

Our Generals are our normal fall in leaders who set up wars, lead them, and post them on our forums, and of course are role models in our community.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

They are equal, General is more of a leadership role on the battlefield, while high council does more behind the scenes and works with our members more.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

No idea, havn't been around that long.

Yup, always have, always will have some. Usually 2-3

What is the role of the Warlord?

Being highly respected in the clan. Qualified to lead any type of war we might have. Has been around the clan for a long time, just a good person to be around. Helps out with our website....etc.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

We go from a rank called "Senate" to warlord to leader, so i suppose yes. He or she is next to the top. The leader/founder is always ahead of them though.

Not sure. Power is over rated. People following you because they respect you/ trust you is much more effective.

In my experiences, warlords do have a significant amount of power in a clan such as that of a councilman or another similar position.

Can't really say but I think that updates such as clan chat have made a significant impact on the warlord position.

Does your clan have a Warlord?

We had, yes.

What is the role of the Warlord?

I see the role of a warlord as being a "lord of war". It should be their job to oversee fights and to be the primary leader. They should be in charge of pk leaders or the like.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

No, I doubt it. A warlord's power is limited to wars, but a High Council I see as part of the leadership team, who should be much higher ranked.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

Well, they need more sets now.

They don't do [cabbage] in IRC so nop, I'd say a council has more power.

When it comes down to warring, they speak over the leader l0l.

Yes.

What is the role of the Warlord?

-Discussing, compromising with officers of other clans in the hope to come to an agreement in setting up a war including details.

-Being able to do some decent leading during wars.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

It's close, but the difference is that the High Council has more to keep in mind with then everything based with wars.

To be honest I don't really think so.

What is the role of the Warlord? To organize/get fights, to lead fights, call masses to hunt clans etc.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)? depends on what clan as each clan defines the power of warlord in different ways. But from my experience in clans , then yes in certain ways.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years? Not really, as they have always been the ones to help lead, get fights, call masses

Our clan, K0 Unit, has 3 active warlords who all are really dedicated=]

Besides excellent leadership capability and good clan wars knowledge, our warlords help on our site, monitor our runehead, and deal with rankings in clan chat. Very big position=] Now if i could just get it

Hmm it's pretty interesting that some clans rank a Warlord really highly whereas some don't rank it as high in terms of power. Do you think this is because of the leader's interpretation of a Warlord, like some leaders just see them as leading wars whereas some see them as the people who have complete control over the aspects of warring? Or that the Leader for example wouldn't want the Warlord to have too much power?

Does your clan have a Warlord?

Yes

What is the role of the Warlord?

Going to base this one of our Warlord, as every clan is different. Ours is head of the wilderness team, teaches our other 2 ranks and also puts invoice on internal issues.

Although, in the clan world, a Warlords job is basically seen as; getting wars and leading. Even though there are many other areas some are designated to cover.

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

It depends all on the clan. Having a background of being Warlord, they can really take on multiple jobs. Taking Exercitum for example, while I was apart of them. While being only a Warlord of Exercitum, the main job was just the wilderness team in general. Although, when moving up to Head Warlord, I took on internal issues as well. Most clans run this kind of system. You have the one(s) head in charge (Head Warlord, Warlord), the ones below the head in charge (Warlord, Commander) and you have those in a training process, or known as back ups (Captains, Storm Troopers). Although these are just based off of 2 clans, Divine Forces and Chivalry Legions, it does also go through other clans as well. Most clans who have a well developed memberbase and wilderness team, you are likely to find 3 seperate ranks in. More than likely, the Head Warlord/Warlord position would be used for internal issues as well, considering they are well experienced on both sides of the table.

It all just really depends on the clan you are in and how experienced that clan may be when it comes to designated ranks. Although, in most higher up clans, you will see those who are in charge of the wilderness team, also put in their voice on other options as well.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

It has increased. Warlords back 5 years ago had little to no power, as Leaders would take the main job of doing what Warlords do today. On the leading side, you often saw members more than you would Warlords and Leaders.

What is the role of the Warlord?

main role is setting up wars, getting sign ups, gettin pks, helping in practises, assisting with leading. We in BK also have pk leaders who are more specialists, some are snipers, some are fall in leaders they all help in certains areas they are better in

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

yes treated on same level as council

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

ofc the wildernesss has changed, the whole warring pking approach has changed, so warlord has adjusted to that

We have 3 that I know of

What is the role of the Warlord?

Create wars and also to moderate boards and ideally to be a part of the community in the same way that a council members is although that's not a requirement

In terms of power, is being a Warlord anywhere near close to being as powerful in your clan as a High Council member(or a rank equivalent)?

Well Bk has leaders, warlords and council as the active leadership positions, and the warlords are warlords until they can no longer do it/are demoted unlike the council who are changed every 3 months.

Traditionally, do you think the roles of a Warlord has ever changed in the past 5 years?

not especially

I think warlords should have as much or more power than high-council because when warring warlords pretty much have complete control of what happens, and i'm pretty sure thats what most people are in clans for, to win/have fun. To say the least warlords should be role models that people respect and look up to.
